A Diversified Experience

NMIMS is a great college for BBA, with excellent faculty and teaching standards, as well as a wonderful student network.

I gave the NMAT undergraduate exam and got a national level rank of 22, which was surprising because the examination was particularly difficult. Anyway, I'd heard a lot about NMIMS, especially since it's one of the top five BBA colleges in the country, but what attracted me the most to the college was the chance to live in Mumbai, as well as the chance to study so many different subjects under a very generic course.

Most BBA colleges are very business-centric with their curriculum. But as we all know, management and business aren't just about the numbers or the strategy. A good businessperson needs to have a lot of different skills under their belt, and that's where NMIMS hits the mark. From subjects like Communications, Human Behaviour, and Law to the more specific Financial Statements Analysis, Principles of Management and Services Marketing, NMIMS' school of commerce really helps shape you into a well-rounded business student with a veritable base of knowledge.

Yes, internships are provided at the end of second year, but I'm still only in the first semester of SY, so I can't give too many details about it.

Have not graduated, so cannot say.However, from what my seniors have said, renowned companies from all over the country come for placements, which take place over a period of a few days, and the stipends are very respectable too.

One of the most popular fests in our college is Vaayu, which attracts a wide variety of students from colleges all over the country. It's a three-day fest full of activities, competitions, concerts, parties and great food. The Vaayu department of our college works every day from July to December in preparation for this event.

The fees are a little more pricey than your average college, I'll admit, with approximately 1.5-2 lakhs being spent every year, but considering the quality of education, the diverse curriculum and the well-educated faculty, I think it's fairly reasonable.

None that I know of, as I have not availed any loans or scholarships, and neither have any of my friends.

The infrastructure is small - just one or two floors for our school of commerce - but we have a great library and a decent canteen. Gender ratios are positive. I think there are actually more girls than boys in BBA. The night life is great, since it's Mumbai. Most clubs have different workshops and seminars by guest lectures at least once every week. The student community seems to be very tolerant. I haven't heard any instances of ragging or bullying on any grounds whatsoever.

Hostel facilities are a few kilometres from the college, and not sufficient to meet the entire student population.Most students live either in PGs or in flats of their own. Rates differ depending on which area you're staying in, so I really can't specify.I've never lived in the hostel, but from what I've heard, the facilities are not up to the mark. The rooms are two-to-three sharing.

I interacted with quite a few alumni and senior students before joining the college, and they were all extremely cooperative and helpful. People here are friendly and do their best to make you feel welcome.

We have the 60/40 marking pattern: 60 marks external examination and 40 marks internal assessment. The external examinations take place in one hectic week, but at least a week of preparatory leave is provided to us. The internal assessment structure is up to the professors to decide: whether it's class assignments, presentations, documentaries or simple examinations.

Most of the faculty who have taught me are experts in their field, with years of working experiences as well as many degrees and accolades to their name.The teaching methodology is also very interactive, practical and application-based. It's not just about rote-learning or attending lectures. We have workshops, inter-class competitions, field research, documentaries and so much more to help us understand why we learn what we're learning.
