Remarks

I think educational standard should itself improve to improve deep knowledge in subjects rather than scoring marks and getting placement without even knowing the basics of a subject. As, I am master student in Germany, I really wish after getting some work experience, I would really wish to work with students in our Indian College, and help in making them understand the practical reality.

Entrance Preview

TANCET exam for Tamilnadu Engineering colleges. I had interest for mechanical engineering from my school. I pursued it. Now I am presently doing my masters in Germany after 4 years work experience

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

8 semesters. With one Final year project. first two semester had basic engineering and sciences. From 3-6 semesters, mainly engineering subjects like thermodynamics, thermal, design of machine elements, kinematics of machinery, strength of materials, etc. Final year project must be done on industries as a group project

Internships Opportunities

No stipend. We did only implant training to gain practical knowledge and reduce the gap between theory and practical reality. I have done 2 implant trainings in Simson engines, Chennai port and my Final year project in Neyveli Lignite corporation.

Placement Experience

4

Placement was quite okay. But many joined Software companies after Mechanical studies. Packages ranged from 3-6 lakhs per annum (during 2010). More than 90% students got placed.

College Events

2

In this my college is not that best. And I hope that is the case with most other colleges as well. Colleges started focussing on pass percentage, university ranks and college reputation by placement percentage. Our college lacked cultural activities, and even management festivals.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Expensive. I think now its 1 lakh per annum. if hostel, the fees becomes even closer to 1.5 lakhs per annum. But in government colleges, the fees is just around 40k INR.

Fees and Financial Aid

No scholarship. Only department toppers used to get around 2000 rupees and if a student wins an amount in an external college technical event, College will give the equivalent price money.

Campus Life

2.5

In our college, Co-curricular activities were given not much importance. Sports we had good cricket team, volleyball team. But overall picture, no much importance to innovations were given.

Hostel Facilities

1.5

I was a day scholar. So I didnot know much about hostel rooms. But as far as I know, the mess foods were not that good and there were more restrictions for hostel students like using mobiles, staying late night, going out to visit friends and relatives.

Alumni/Alumna

Not much interaction between seniors and juniors. Our college restricted it as they find it might lead to ragging problems. This should also change in the future. More interactions between alumni students will help us in building contact for our future career guidance.

Exam Structure

We had weekly 6 hrs of lab which was enjoyable. Exams were hectic and the evaluations are not of perfect standards. We need more lab sessions to improve our depth of understanding.

Faculty

3

Good with many experienced lecturers. But lecturers had theoretical knowledge which helped only a little. In Germany, lecturers normally have many years experience in industries and then they come later with practical experience as well
