Entrance Preview

Punjab technical university conducts its own entrance examination. There are around 50 colleges affiliated to PTU. Depending on the marks you score, ranks are given, and every college has a cut off rank. So one can apply accordingly. Management quota is prevalent. So if you have lot of money to spare, you can get admission through mgmt quota.

Internships Opportunities

There were 3 training's involved in my course. The first was a 45 day training, at the end of first year, which happens in the college campus itself. It is conducted by the college faculty, on subjects they think would be helpful in the long run.

Placement Experience

4

The placement season was a busy one. our college has a dedicated training and placement cell, which makes every possible effort to place the max no of students. They invite org to our campus. If mnc's are coming to other colleges nearby, they coordinate with other colleges, and take students to these colleges. They keep students informed about job fest, make travel arrangements, conduct amcat aptitude tests etc. leading to maximum placements.

College Events

3

Our college hosts an day annual festival called the "panache". It has various cultural activities, technical and entertainment competitions and game shows. Various colleges participate in the cultural events. DJ night usually marks the end of the festival. There are other events like sports day, blood donation camps, placement fest among others.

Fees and Financial Aid

You would get a students loan from the bank. Other than that i do not know of scholarships or loans provided by the bank.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni is excelling in their respective fields. Many alumni members are working in MNC's and settled across the globe and every year. The list of students joining IT giants like Infosys,TCS and imilar increases.

Exam Structure

In a six month semester, we have three sessionals and one final exams. Also included is one internal and one external viva.all exams, sessionals and finals, are conducted very strictly with all measure to check any form of cheating and misconduct. For internal marks, marks of best two out of three sessionals is considered/ subject.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty had a lot of potential.our college has a fair mix of new and experienced teachers. The criteria for faculty selection is tough, so even though some teachers are new they are good in their respective fields. The experience teachers bring with them real life examples and knowledge gathered over the years. The staff is supportive and take great pain to make their subjects as easy and relatable as possible.

NITJ has a placement cell, also known as the Centre of Training and Placements(TPO office of NITJ). The placement scenes differ depending on the courses offered. The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
