Remarks

The management is a bit strict, considering that we have morning PT, and hostel timing with strict attendance policy. But they are manageable if you are in the right mindset

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is fairly good, first year is common engineering knowledge, the second year onwards the Marine topics start. In the seventh semester, it is actually onboard training. The college has a ship in campus facility, a replica of a ship with actual machinaries are present so that students can learn by experience.

Placement Experience

3

The placement of the college is good. The top 20 students in the batch are allowed to go for MOL interview each year, of which the qualified students are placed. Fleet management takes in some students for interview and the best among these are also placed. MSC visits at times and select some students.

College Events

4

The college conducts the annual National level Techno Cultural fest Propulzo. Which contains all kind of cultural and technical programs. Usually the students are the ones actively running to conduct the program with adequate support from the college. Other than that there are all kinds of such technical and cultural festivals in th various CUSAT departments including University arts and sports.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee for the course is very high compared to other courses in CUSAT. Almost 10 lakhs for the whole course, which includes hostel fees also. But mess fee would come extra. The college accepts fees in almost all modes bank transfers, DD. Now it is conducted through the SB collect platform. No additional fee is required for admission, just the first sem fee.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees are arranged according to the rank instead of scholarships, you got in eithee state merit or National merit, fees lower in state. There is also a NRI merit.

Campus Life

4

Gender ratio is a bit of concern, the course is a male dominated course, but now institutions and DG shipping are trying to make more lady cadets join, by providing scholarships for lady cadets and reduction in tution fee. And from my views the number of lady cadets have been increasing in recent years. And in the case of politics, there are no politics in the college but remember, you are in CUSAT University, so plenty of politics outside. Students are from all over India, mostly from Kerala but a good numbers are from north india also from various states. Workshops and debates are conducted almost everyday somewhere in CUSAT so you are free to go, but make sure you have adequate attendance.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Yes, it is a residential course. Meaning you have to stay in hostel anyway, no matter how close or far away you are from. The rooms are shared for three. The rooms are of good conditions seperate beds, cupboards and shelves. Hostel has a laundry facility for uniform and bedsheet. Also washing machines are available, for normal clothes. There are no extra charge for hostel, it is included in the semester fees.

Alumni/Alumna

A active alumni network was not around for a long time, but this year a number of good decisions have taken place in that direction. An official alumni was formed and alumni meet was conducted. But taking the career in consideration, it is difficult for all of the alumni to be present at the same time. Even though an alumni was not technically there, the support of the seniors were present all round, that is something that I can be completely sure about.

Admission

Firstly, I had the CUSAT CAT entrance exam, after almost a month my CAT score came out and I had to select the courses which I wanted to opt. From this list according to my rank I would be given the list of courses to which I can go for will be given. I applied for all the courses I liked, there was a special box outside list for Marine engineering. The results came after some time and I got in for the orientation of Marine engineering. It usually takes place ahead of other departments. I could join the course and after if I got interested in some other course, I could always change the department because they were all under CUSAT. I selected the course because it was fairly different from the ones that were present, having spent a year in entrance coaching, I didn't want to go for some normal course. At the orientation, the list of students who came was shown on a screen, according to their rank the students were listed. I got in for that day, then I had to pay the fees of first year in advance, because for Marine, the first to semesters were combined.

Faculty

4

Yes, lecturers are highly qualified, all the Marine subjects were taught by Marine engineers or officers. Each hours were 45 min long with a 5 min break. There are 8 periods a day with a lunch break of 1 hr. The teachers are all good in teaching, could provide clarity of the subject to the students. They used all resources available, the projectors in the classrooms for presentations and for showing videos.

The campus placements are decent. getting placed in a big company is more about having the technical and soft skills to pass the interviews. the placement training helps us develop soft skills but the technical skills must be developed ourselves.

Companies like Oracle, Goldman Sachs, L&T, Bajaj, Caterpillar and PSU's like BEL,HPCL and BPCL come to the college usually the coding companies offer aroung 35-40 LPA CTC and the core PSU companies offer around 17-18 LPA. Highest Package is 51 LPA and an Average Package of 12 LPA. Nearly 85% students from Circuit and CS branch get placed and around 60% in core branches who sit for placements, My plans after getting the degree is to join MBA to learn how business world works and how the money flows
