Entrance Preview

I got admission in MIT through a counselling process which is common for Tamilnadu colleges. I scored 1172/1200 in my board exam. The total score was irrelevant for counselling. They had a cutoff mark which takes Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics scores into consideration. The cutoff is for 200(100 for mathematics and 50 for physics and chemistry each) out of which I scored 198.25.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum was designed in a way which helps us understand the application of concepts which were taught. We had projects from 2nd year. Electives were taught in an application oriented manner for which projects are must. The final year was dedicated to project where we can choose a domain of our choice and with the assistance from a faculty and a research scholar from the particular domain we are mentored.

Internships Opportunities

My college does provide internships. There is a final placement process for final year students usually starting from August. The internship process takes place along with it for 3rd years. 2nd year students are not allowed to attend the internship process through college. However, there are many technical fests that provide internships as rewards and 2nd yea students can grab one of those by winning in those competitions. The general stipend is around 25k to 35k.

Placement Experience

4.5

Almost 95% of the batch gets placed every year. The pay of the companies varies for each department. It varies from 3.25 to 28 lpa. Some of the companies were amazon, flipkart, microsoft, musigma, cts, accenture, infosys, alcatel, SAP labs, IBM, Semantec, Citycorp, Samsung, Cisco, Caterpillar, Ford.

College Events

4.5

There are 8 departments in my college. Each has a separate intercollege technical fest. Along with it there are intracollege technical fests by 4 departments. Apart from technical fests, the clubs and committees of MIT conducts non-technical fests. The cultural association of MIT conducts a cultural fest called MITAFEST. There are many national and international level symposiums that take place apart from department symposiums .

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is feasible. Since its a government college its very much affordable for most of the students. 1 year consists of 2 terms and each term's tuition fees is around 8k which sums upto 16k for a year. Apart from tuition fees the hostel students had hostel fees which were comparatively cheap compared to other similar colleges.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college has a good alumni network and there is a scholarship provided by that association called FFE. The scholarship is given based on the 12th board exam scores and parent's annual income. They provide 30k per year if hostel fees is included else 15k per year. Apart from this there is another sholarship which gives 15k per year.

Campus Life

2.5

The gender ratio was maintained and in few departments there were more girls than boys. Regarding diversity i would rate low since most of the people were from Tamilnadu. There were few NRI's and people from other states. Extra curricular were good mainly due to clubs and committees who made sure students develop other talents apart from studies.

Exam Structure

Well engineering is not a mere joke. There were days where I had really wanted some pressure tablets to make myself normal and also days where I have enjoyed the most in my life. I feel I learnt the importance of multitasking, team work and friendship during those tough times. Apart from exams we had project deadlines report submissions and presentations.

Faculty

3.5

We had faculty with good experience and few were research scholars. Though its a government college and there were preconceived notions about the regularity of classes, the classes took place properly. The faculty put in a lot of effort in giving us a conceptual understanding. Apart from classroom sessions we were given lectures from professors from other colleges and we had sessions were we would listen to video lectures.

B.tech students will be eligible after they complete their credits before the 3rd year and usually that is the period during which they will be eligible for placements. For integrated M.tech it might be after the 4th year in 5th year, they could get a year for internships which is good for students. This might be considered as my interest in this course. The placement is around 95 percent. My plans after getting the degree is to become a highly skilled person and to get a job in google. Many companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Qualcomm, etc place our campus. There are no such companies that visited and made no offers.

In my college placement start from 7th semester, students get eligible to sit in drives. Many companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro and some core firms visited and gave good no of offers. Highest package was around 10 LPA and average near 4.5 LPA depending on profile, mostly software dev, testing and few core engineer role. Around 70% students got placed last year, rest go for higher studies or other prep. My plan after finishing degree is to first try campus offer then aim for higher studies if I not satisfied. Overall placement is decent but still more core companies should come.
