Remarks

The good part was the chance to explore yourself as there were tons of societies for multiple activities and one way or another everyone gets into one. The only bad part was the research orientation which is completely missing in the curriculum.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

As far as course curriculum was considered it was designed in such a way that there can be maximum learning. It was completely relevant to what is required in the market but I will have to say no on the research driven part. As a student you can take up on multiple projects and seek guidance from faculties but that wasn't part of the curriculum. Industrial visits to Tata companies were planned but the overall learning could have been much better.

Placement Experience

3.5

Our campus hosts wide range of companies during placement seasons. However, the numbers might change from branch to branch. For Mechanical, companies like Tata, Maruti, Hyundai, kirloskar were few key companies while Mu sigma, ZS, etc were there for the general pool. The recruitment process is comparatively easier in the campus due to the number of candidates appearing for it which completely depended upon the company. The placement in NIT Jamshedpur is quite good compared to other NIT's. Around 80-90% good placement is quite common for any batches. The institution creates team department wise to organise mock preparation by seniors to help for the final placement.

College Events

5

Technical - Ojass - Around 8k footfall, there were multiple technical events conducted by Different branches also like Technica etc. Cultural - Utkarsh - Around 6k footfall. However, there were teams who kept on organizing small events every once in a while inside the campus. Management fest - Multiple- Department wise particularly.

Fee Structure And Facilities

During my tenure the fees was feasible but right now it's too expensive. Multiple payment methods were available and since it is NIT so there was completely transparency in fee structure. No amount of money can land you in this college as the only way in is competitive exam(JEE Mains)

Fees and Financial Aid

College doesn't offer any scholarships but yes after landing there, you are eligible for few of them citing you are in top 3- 6 in your branch or in some cases top 3 in the college in your batch. I personally opted for education loan and around 60% candidates also opt for loan only and the same is very easily due to the brand name.

Campus Life

3.5

Out of our batch of 592 in 2k13 i guess there were 91 girls. There are tons of societies in different fields - From Cultural club to technical club, from social club to fun club, there wasn't a single person from the whole batch who wasn't involved in any of these. To be frank, there haven't been anu discrimination inside the campus based on any of the above points.

Hostel Facilities

3

Yes, I personally opted for hostels and as far as i know around 96% of the whole 2k13 batch too. The hostels were fairly good and the rent was also okay. In the starting years it was on sharing basis while as you move up, the sharing reduces one by one and you will get individual rooms by 4th year.

Alumni/Alumna

We do have a dedicated team of Industry & Alumni Relation, who keeps on arranging multiple get together of different alumni batches from time to time. The interactions are simply incredible. No doubt many of them have funded the college, few helped students directly and so on. The Alumni base is just too good in this college.

Admission

The admission process to any IIT/NIT is quite rigorous. Let me break it down in steps particularly for my case: 1. Cracking JEE Mains exam 2. Getting your scores. 3. Registration for online counseling. 4. Filling up details and college choices by referring last year cut offs. 5. Allotment of college started based on the preference and ranking. 6. Got NIT Jamshedpur, Mechanical Branch in the first go. 7. Joining in the college as per schedule. My reason for selecting NIT Jamshedpur consisted of multiple factors as such - 1. Ranking in JEE Mains. 2. Being native from Jharkhand. 3. Guidance from different people.

Faculty

3

In any NIT, one can find wide range of faculties with specific skills including industrial exposure and all. Similarly in NIT Jamshedpur, during the 8 semesters there were around 46 courses for which around 20 faculties were available with average age of 45+ years.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum exam ready for students of mechanical engineering it focuses on industrial level exposure and for other competitive exams like gate and IES with good faculty who teaches almost all concepts. There are labs for each subject in which we get real world application knowledge. Also course is updated regularly as per the requirement of industry . The course can we improved by making course more practical rather than a writing all things on practical it should include project for students. Frequency of exam is that in every 15 days there is a exam with moderate to difficult level.

Percentage of students getting placed in CSE/AIML is 75, ECE 69, EEE 60, Mech 58. My plans after gettting degree is to get into job sector only for a while. No such higher education plans as such.

Placement Experience:

At BIT Mesra third is like full of practice for placements and final year more of placements activities than studies. So, when all these things are in order placements obviously will be more or less certain and here they are certain only with almost 90% students are places through campus with annual placements of 8-10 lakhs per annum.

From 5th Semester onwards student are eligible for internship but from 7th semester they are allowed to sit in campus. Various companies like PayPal, Wipro , cognizant ,TCS ,Genpact ,Amdocs etc. Highest Package this year is 35 lpa and Average Package is around 7.5 lpa. Around 90% of students from circuital branch and around 80% students from non-circuital branch has been placed so far this year. My plan is prepare very smartly for campus placements and bag a very good PPO from are tech based company.

At BIT Mesra for our departments many cpre companies like Tatva Chintan, Laxmi Organics and Kanoria Chemicals were among some listed companies that came for placements. Luckily we are less in numbers and therefore 90% students from our batch were placed from here. My plans after getting the degree is to pursue masters from US.
