Remarks
The college is really helpful for each student. In spite of being a new and transit campus, we were always made comfortable by the management. They provided us with all necessities that can be afforded. They are the backbone of this college to succeed.
Course Curriculum Overview
For the first two years, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology are taught along with practicals as separate courses. It allows one to be groomed in the environment of basic science. It also promotes interdisciplinary studies as well as ideas that all streams are interrelated. After two years one chooses a major (and minor if he or she wishes). Each summer, we are sent to different labs according to our interest in having exposure to real research. We are encouraged for pursuing a Ph.D. and faculty guide each student individually. Every week, some famous professors from other institutions come for a colloquium. We organize a science fest and outreach program.
Placement Experience
It's a basic science institute and that's why it doesn't provide placements for the usual 9-5 jobs. We are placed for research in different labs as PhDs. We are made prepared for exams like GRE, NET, JEST, PMRF (prime minister research fellow), etc. Under INSPIRE, IAS, institutional fellowship, etc we get paid internships for two months every summer. I have spent 3 internships so far: Under Dr. B Nandy at IISER Berhampur Under Dr. K Isvaran at IISc Bangalore Under Dr. M Jain at IISER Mohali.
College Events
1. Independence day 2. Republic Day 3. Onam 4.Aagomoni 5. Janmashtami 6. Ganesh Chaturthi 7. Saraswati Puja 8. Holi 9. Stream (science outreach) 10. Kyearat (cultural fest) 11. Lakshya (sports event) 12. Subharambh (classical arts) We participate in Inter IISER cultural meet (IICM) and inter IISER sports meet (IISM) annually.
Fee Structure And Facilities
45000/- per semester; College accepts online payment; No additional fees are needed to secure a registration; after the list of selected students comes out, one has to pay a confirmation fee and then a registration fee on the day of admission. Mess fees of monthly 4000/- is optional; The fee breakdown is transparent; For students under SC/ST category the registration fee is 10000/- per month and there is a provision for loans for economically backward students.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am availing INSPIRE from 2016 to 2021. It provides me 5000/- per month and an annual 20000/- for expenditure in an internship. One has to be in the top 1% in his or her 12th board to apply for this. If one has cracked the IISER exam, he or she gets an upper hand. There are other scholarships like IAS, KVPY which one can avail if cracked.
Campus Life
It's a transit campus, but there is ample security always roaming around. Although students cannot roam around, they can stay in the institute as long as they want. There is free WiFi at all hostels and colleges. There is a highly sophisticated computer center. There is a library with a reading room attached. Students meet up every week or two for some cultural activities. We organize a science open day for students of local schools. We have a physics club, chemistry club, mathematics club, astronomy club, and Biology club who meet up every weekend for some extra academic activities. These clubs organize workshops as well. There is a music club, dance club, chess club, etc as well. People inclined towards sports meet up every weekend for some action in cricket or football or basketball or table tennis.
Hostel Facilities
Staying in a hostel is mandatory. Two-person has to share a room. The fees for a hostel are already accounted for in the semester fee. The rooms are cleaned regularly and big enough. Each one is provided with a study table and an almirah. There are aquaguard and gyeser facilities available.
Alumni/Alumna
The college is established in 2016 and there are no alumni so far. But there is certainly going to be an alumni network as time progresses.
Admission
1. I wanted to pursue research in Basic science, especially Biology and there is no better alternative than the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research. 2. I avail inspire scholarship of 5000/month. 3. It provides opportunities for internships in famous labs of India as well as abroad. 4. They focus on research-based studies instead of mugging up textbooks. There are three portals for getting in IISER. 1. KVPY 2. JEE advanced 3. SCB entrance One who qualifies either of them gets a chance in any of the 7 IISERs in the country based on his choice filling.
Faculty
We have a mixture of young energetic and experienced professors who have set their labs as well in the institute. They allow us to reach them whenever both are free and always encourage questions. Along with academics, they help us to cope up with the long stream of basic science. They are all good teachers as well as great scientists. Moreover, they are good friends to guide.
