Remarks

It was close to my home town. Also, IISER in general has a nice atmosphere for science research. IISER Berhampur being a newly established institute, had a small number of students in each class so that helped in better and more direct interaction with the faculties.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course curriculum is great - encourages students to think of original ideas and encourages scientific research temperament. There are around 10 faculties in each department and about 400 students so the faculty:student ratio is 1:10.All faculties are very well qualified. All have PhD and post doc degrees. The teaching method is the usual board teaching method along with digital method of teaching when required. In each semester, there is a mid term and an end term exam with 2 or 3 short exams in between (depending on the instructor of the course). Passing the exams is not difficult. The evaluation is based on relative grading. Obtaining the highest grade point (10) requires quite some effort.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

The internship opportunities are excellent. The students get internships at famous institutions across the country (and a few in foreign countries too) with the help of recommendations from the professors at the institute. Besides internships, the students can participate in various workshops and summer/ winter schools and small projects at various places. I have participated in some workshops and schools as well as summer internships at TIFR and IIT Roorkee

Placement Experience

0.5

There are usually no camus placements available in IISERs. Mostly the students opt for PhD after graduating from IISER. Students here are mostly inclined towards scientific research. The institute was established in 2016 so the first batch of BS-MS hasn't graduated yet. So there is no information available about the post - graduation life of the students graduating from IISER Berhampur

Fee Structure And Facilities

In 4 years there has been a fee hike of around 2000 every years. There is no scholarship offered by the institute. However, based on 12th board percentage, one can obtain DST-INSPIRE scholarship which amounts to 60000 (+20000 contingency grant) per annum. So far, the first batch hasn't passed out, so there is no information available to us about campus jobs. But usually IISERs don't offer campus jobs.

Campus Life

4

The permanent campus hasn't come up yet. The institute presently runs at the transit campus. The annual cultural fest is 'KYRAT' and is conducted in March every year. Every year in February, an outreach programme called STREAM is conducted where students from nearby schools are invited to witness scientific demonstrations. There are various clubs in the institute - both scientific and cultural - physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, Astronomy, dance, music are some of them. Each of the clubs have their individual website and social media handles. Sports facilities are not very extensive due to space constraints.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Hostel accommodation is compulsory for all. The rooms are nice and all necessary requirements are available. The mess fee is separate - 130 per day. The meals are quite good in quality and quantity. The hostels are in separate buildings for different batches and separate for boys and girls.

Remarks:

The college is really helpful for each student. In spite of being a new and transit campus, we were always made comfortable by the management. They provided us with all necessities that can be afforded. They are the backbone of this college to succeed.
