Remarks
Overall, the experience was a mixture of good and bad. I feel like if the management opened up to ideas a bit, it would help in the students' flourishing.
Entrance Preview
I did not take nay entrance exam for the course. I chose Psychology because it was something that always interested me. Given my love for reading, the reasoning behind the behaviour/personalities of characters has always interested me, and Psychology felt like a logical next step.
Course Curriculum Overview
The courses covered were:Basic Psychology (2 papers), Social Psychcology, Developmental Psychology, Consumer Behaviour, Inferential and descriptive statistics, Organisational Psychology, Psychopathology (2 papers), Educating Exceptional Children, Biopsychology and Experimental Psychology (3 papers).
Internships Opportunities
As it is a Psychology course, and in the Bachelors level, an internship was not part of the curriculum. I did however, apply for a few internships and worked on a voluntary basis at a few places. The experience involved mostly observation and contributing in small ways.
Placement Experience
Although I was not involved in the placement and job opportunity scenario, I am aware that quite a number of well known companies (including MNCs) came to recruit at the college, and selected a number of students.
College Events
Inter departmental cultural festivalInter, collegiate cultural festival, sports day, founders day (Annual Day) Independence day, republic day, young entrepreneurs fair.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure for the undergraduate course was feasible, somewhere around 5000 rupees for one semester, much less than other major city colleges. I am not aware of the fee structure for postgraduate and high studies courses.
Fees and Financial Aid
Yes the college has a scholarship facility, given out based on a merit-cum-need basis almost all student who required the financial support, received it. I am not aware of any loan facility.
Campus Life
Given that it was a women's college, it always felt like a sisterhood. A few course related workshops were organised every semester, and help conceptualise the application of theories. Apart from the literary events held during the cultural festival, the english department also organised inter collegiate debates and quizzes every year. Sports is always encouraged it was the only women's college in the city to have a swimming pool. The Muslim run management meant that the college was a little more conservative in the terms of events and activities.
Hostel Facilities
The college did not include a hostel students from out of town had to make their own arrangements for accommodation. Private hostels near the college were usually opted for. The canteen had a small variety of well cooked food. While attempts were made to maintain the hygiene standards, I cant say they always succeeded.
Alumni/Alumna
Organisation of alumni meets are done every year, but a good job isn't done with regards to the invitations. I know of passed out students who, despite furnishing the college with details, have not received an invitation to the meets.
Exam Structure
Mid semester exam exam in the middle of the semester, when half the portions have been completed final exam including lab exam and practicals, along with the entire portions covered throughout the semester in all subjects. CIA - 3 continuous Internal assessments, basically class tests, interspersed throughout the semester.
Faculty
While the syllabus was comprehensive, I cannot say that the faculty was always on par. It was a mix of excellent and mediocre, as in every other college. Some teachers cultivated a passion for the subject and gave rise to research questions, while others did little more than teach the syllabus.
