Remarks

As the title says, I didn't have much choice in selecting my course. However, I found my stay of 3 years quite eventful and happening. The principal though is someone nobody admires. Except her chamchas. She just sits in her office the entire day and interacts with the students only on event days. She is like a stuck up fool. No offense :P

Entrance Preview

I did not answer GCET because i did not qualify for engineering, as i dropped maths in the 12th. So i was left hunting for options after my 12th. I was naturally good in biology and always was among the top scorers. So i searched for good undergraduate courses that i could join and came across this particular one. I applied to St. Xaviers and Dhempe's both, but settled on Dhempe due to its proximity to my home.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course underwent a change for the SY when i was in the TY. Hence i would call my batch a lucky one. Now maths and physics has been introduced in the curriculum. As expected, you have to write a thesis in the TY in groups of 4 to 5 students. It takes up much time because of the micro organisms growth time and such. But it is fun. Just remember to choose people you like, since you will spend the year with them.

Internships Opportunities

It does not provide internship per semester. However, you are free to search out companies and letters will arranged by the department.

Placement Experience

0.5

No matter what percentage you get, you will not find suitable work on just completing the undergraduate study. Opt for JNU entrance test or join the university, or go outside Goa to study, but study further! Or do an MBA. Else the only jobs you will find are those of lab technicians with pay between 5 to 8k. However, doing a PhD can earn you lakhs.

College Events

4

This is a field where the college is good. Right from the election time, where promises are made to have bigger and better events. A fun week for 4 days is held in december for all the college students. Each and every department has an event of their own. 'Chiasma' is the name of the biotechnology dept event. And the main intercollegiate event of the college is 'Creations', which though is not a great crowd puller, is still fun.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since it is a self financed course, all the colleges in Goa offering this course have fees on a similar level. It is close to 60,000 per year now. The breakup will be provided on asking at the reception. Exam fees are separate and the security deposit is actually refundable.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions

2 students of the college will be offered tution waiver by a visiting faculty. This is an informal scholarship as it is not listed anywhere. Besides this, awards for studies and sports are aplenty. They will be presented at the annual gathering held in december every year.

Campus Life

3.5

Everything is pretty normal. A small sports room, small common rooms, a zero lecture every wednesday for guest lectures etc. Every department conducts their own activities. The politics obviously runs high like the students are contesting the local elections :D Ragging is strictly prohibited.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

No hostels and no mess. However, the canteen run by Prasad is quite good. I personally loved his paneer biryani. However, i would advise you to avoid eationg his food during the monsoons as many students and teachers have fallen sick. Efforts to get him replaced have not been successful in the past as the principal likes him too much

Alumni/Alumna

During my years, there were hardly any alumni visiting, and the ones that were, were only on official work and didn't interact. The senior students on the other hand are a boon. They can help you a lot if you build a rapport with them in the beginning itself.

Exam Structure

The exams followed the same pattern year after year. It was hardly challenging. You could just get the question papers of the previous 5 years and study those questions. 90% of the paper would be from there. The lab work is good though. You actually learn a lot there.

Faculty

3.5

The department is led by a very proficient lecturer. She is very well qualified. Try to get in her good books and you are set for your 3 years. About the rest of the faculty, they are contract or lecture based. So there is a possibility you may not see them again next year. And the new teachers are almost always freshers although they are selected through a rigorous selection process.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is good but it's little difficult to understand sence it provides different courses in Frist year for students and the main course starts from second year so the first year is a waste of year .if curriculum gives master degree than it can be considered as good . They should conduct internship so that students gets opportunity to earn along with studying.

Course Curriculum Overview:

want to become a software engineer, so I chose computer science as my subject. Arts, science, and commerce departments are there in college. Arts has more than 200 students, Science has more than 150, and Commerce has nearly 100. Each department has different buildings. All teachers are teaching well. In the first year, there are two semesters and four isas (intra semester assessments) in the first year. on every month. Following two Isa 1 semester exams, a practical exam is taken. Due to COID, my first and half of second year go online where it is easy to get passing marks, but in offline exams it's so much harder to get even passing marks.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I am interested in Biotechnology, hence decided to pursue it. Goa University was the first college that came to my mind. The students and the faculty coordinate well with each other, which makes things easier. The faculty is well qualified for their respective teaching subjects, which helps students to clear their concepts. Small tests are conducted regularly for students to be in rhythm with the class. Exams are always on time and well organized.

College should provide placement and also stipend to the interns. And also they should assign more companies to visit our college so that more students should get job opportunities in companies. But overall our college is very active in sports and academics.
