LIFE IN IIT DHANBAD

Although overall it's a great experience studying in IIT Dhanbad, yet the infrastructure is far lacking in comparison to other IIT's which is a big concern. Our campus area is 1/10th of the campus covered by any other IIT colleges. This is the only negative remark about our college.

Course structure had been efficient. Specially my course, which is Mining requires a lot of on field work for research purposes. Therefore everyday it was a gala experience at the mines or sites where we were sent to do research. Exams time are always hectic but the rest part of the year is a heaven. So overall no huge stress.

IIT DHANBAD has a good placement record. Big companies like TATA, MICROSOFT, GOOGLE, INFOSYS, WIPRO, COAL INDIA, CIMFR, BCCL, AIRTEL, JIO, TATA MOTORS, HCL, etc arrive to retrieve students in bulk every year. However IIT DHANBAD has it's best placement record in the stream of mining department. There are internships offered to interested students. I have been working as a project assistant in CIMFR since 3rd year. I receive a stipend of RS. 12000/ month.

Mood Indigo, Sparsh, Techfest, Cyber Disease, Staad Pro, Robotics are some rest held here every year. There is a huge participation of students in these festival and sometimes the count exceeds thousand.

The fee structure is as follows- BTech - Around 5 lakhs, BTech + Masters - 610000, PhD - 93000, Masters- 120000, MBA- 3 lakh approx, MSc - 1, 30, 000. The fee structure is feasible and far less in comparison to other institute.

I am not aware of any loan facility. However there are lot of scholarship facilities available to meritorious students depending upon their marks in the entrance exam. Each student gets a rebet from the annual fee whose percentage is determined by the marks they obtain in the entrance. The better rank they secure, the more scholarship they are likoto get.

IIT Dhanbad has a very wide range of extra-curricular activities categorized majorly under Cultural Activities, Sports and Technical Activities. You name it, we have it. These activities are conducted in the institute by the students who are passionate about it, through different clubs, camps and competitions. Students learn a lot from these activities and events through interaction with peers, seniors, juniors, faculty, professionals, anybody and everybody.

Hostel infrastructure is good. Mess food and aother facility are up to the mark. However for convenience I shifted to a PG in the 2nd year of my college. But hostel facilities are not bad either. I would personally recommend hostel for those who cannot cook. Since I had a cooking experience, I Choose to live in a PG.

Every senior has a big role to play in your college life. Our seniors either taught us the way to exist in the institution or made us see the way to live life up to the fullest. Seniors were a family away from home in IIT. They were quite ready to help and always encouraging in every field. A big love to them.

Engineering had always been my passion and there was no other stream I had ever thought about. I opted for BTech in Mining from IIT Dhanbad given the reputation of Dhanbad as a coal capital. The reason for choosing mining was that this college has a good track record of placements for mining students. Moreover there is CIMFR which is at a close proximity to the college that hires IITians for research and training purposes. Companies like Coal India, TATA and BCCL flood the college every year.

Faculty of every OIT is of top notch and my College is no exception either. The professor's in the respective departments are highly qualified and deliver their best. They are their when you need them. Mr. Sharma, our mining head, is one of the best leader you can ever come across. His friendly attitude makes it quite easy to bond with him. Besides, Ms. Dixit, Mr. Alok, Mr. Tirathnath, Ms. Doshi, Ms. Chatterjee, Anupam sir are a best of the faculty you can ever wish for.
