Remarks
My college is doing really good. I'm proud to be a upgite. It was a very fulfilling experience. Maybe any other college would not made us feel as at home as I did.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum relies mainly on practicals than theory. We'd have 3 hours of lectures everyday and rest of the day we'd spent time of practical projects for 36 subjects over the course of 3 years. We study the foundation of 36 different mass media subjects. It was chilled. Exams were easy if we paid attention in class and were well versed with the industry (through practical projects and internships). The best part was being taught by visiting lecturers who were prominent professionals in the corporate world. We learnt alot about how the industry work, and how the world works through this exposure.
Placement Experience
Placements and job opportunities are good in media in Mumbai. A huge pool of our alumni comes in to place their juniors during placements and internships. The overall experience of interns is generally being treated bad. But we'd always get opportunities to learn and work from the college. The stipend depends on skills. Some creative writers were paid Rs. 25,000 a month, while some photographer were paid Rs. 5000 per shoot
College Events
The beginning of the year starts with seniors arranging an orientation and a fresher's party for the first years. After which, we'd celebrate all the Indian festivals together, have parties and events for each. We'd also participate in college festivals and have a wardrobe of trophies. Our own college festivals, Ahaan, and many other filmmaking, literary, photography festivals keep happening. The entire college participates.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Rs. 16,000 for first year, and a 10% increase for the next year, and 15% for the next. It was very feasible. And we could pay per semester wise. There were also Various scholarships and grants for excellence.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am not aware. But you need 200 characters so here I am typing about how the substantial fee structure of my college was very affordable for an average middle class family and an above middle class family.
Campus Life
Gender ratio is 4 girls: 1 boy, we had a student council, general secretary, cultural secretary, joint cultural secretary, cultural committee, we had elections for all posts. Gender equality was never a problem. We also had Rotaract and NSS camps along with other nature, tech clubs. Because of the Gujarati quotas, Gujarati were majority.
Hostel Facilities
I haven't opted for hostel. Most of the students in my college were residents of Mumbai, and would travel to college everyday. Some students from out of Mumbai or out of India, would rent a flat or paying guest apartment nearby
Alumni/Alumna
Yes. Alumni network is very well off. Alot of prominent personalities in our industry are our college alumni. They've mentored us and helped us with exams, the real world, getting Jobs, getting projects.
Admission
I filled the online application form for the college after results. My name was registered in the 2nd merit list. These lists come out on campus and online. There was a process of submitting all documents after which they gave us our admission details and we paid the course fees accordingly.
Faculty
Both our permanent and visiting faculty were remarkable. Our lectures were often more of a conversation than a formal set up. Our faculty members always supported us through everything, and pushed us for extra curricular activities just as much as studying. It was a well rounding experience.
