Remarks

Overall, I had a very positive experience in the college. The college provided me a great platform to showcase my talents. The college also made me learn many new things which are quite helpful for me in future.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Curriculum is well structured which makes sure that both basics and advanced topics are delivered to the students. The syllabus of first year of engineering includes the topics from all the different fields of engineering. Syllabus is exhaustive which makes sure that the candidate is fit to get absorbed into the market. A good range of electives are offered to students in their final year. Semester system is followed in GEC. Exams are in the month of May-June and Nov-Dec. Results are usually declared in 2 months. There is a provision to apply for re-evaluation as well as challenge re-evaluation.

Placement Experience

2.5

Comp, IT and ETC have a good placement record. However, mechanical and civil engineering disciplines have poor placement records as very few companies hire from campus. The college doesn't provide internship, however, intrested students can do internship during the semester break.

College Events

4.5

The college hosts various technical and non-technical fests. HAPPENINGS is the oldest and biggest cultural inter college fest which is organised every year. SPECTRUM is a non-technical inter college tech fest. An inter department fest TANDAV is organised every year where in the 6 departments compete to conquer the trophy. Apart from these events, departmental events like Pratikriya and Cursor are also organised.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Being a government college, the fee structure is very reasonable and affordable for everyone. The college offers several scholarships as well. There's a special provision for students whose parents have a low annual income. Tution fee is waived for those students under Tution fee waiver scheme.

Fees and Financial Aid

I have never applied for loan or any scholarship during my course in engineering at GEC. There's a special provision for students whose parents have a low annual income. Tution fee is waived for those students under Tution fee waiver scheme. Book bank scheme is also available for selected candidates.

Campus Life

4.5

GEC actively participates in various competitions organised by different colleges across Goa. The college encourages students to participate in various events. Labs of GEC are well equipped. The college also has a Kuka Robot.

Alumni/Alumna

GEC has a strong alumni network. There's a separate portal created where alumni post job requirements in which students can apply. There are regular alumni meet ups organised by the college. The alumni of GEC have always supported the college to the maximum extent possible.

Admission

The admission in the college is purely through Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET). Being among the top most colleges in Goa, meritorious students get into GEC. Results are usually declared in a week which is followed by counselling. Candidates are called according to their rank in the GCET. A total of 6 courses are offered in GEC which are as follows 1. Civil Engineering 2. Mechanical Engineering 3. Computer Engineering 4. ETC 5. IT 6. Electrical Engineering In total there are 3 rounds of admission which is also followed by spot round if at all seats are vacant.

Faculty

4

The faculty at GEC are mixed which includes teachers who are on permanent basis and also on contract basis. Most of the faculty members on permanent basis have a doctorate degree with a teaching experience of more than 15 years. Faculty members on contract basis are youngsters and have a pretty good knowledge about the subject. Overall, teachers are friendly, supportive and helping in nature.

Placement Experience:

Students can start sitting in placements from the start of 4th year , when the Placement Division starts bringing companies to the campus. The average package for CS is around 20-26 LPA, for Electrical branches it's around 18-24 LPA and for Mechanical and Chemical it is around 13-16 LPA. These figures would've changed though from the last time I saw. Around 85-90% of the students get placed usually. Top notch companies like Google, Microsoft , DE Shaw, Arcesium Cohesity Rubrick recruit students every year for the tech roles and other prominent companies like Flipkart, Sprinkle, Intuiut and Coin Switch come for managerial roles as well. There is even a chance of getting a PPO through Summer Internship Program which kikstarts in the 3rd year where students compete to get internship in these top companies. Overall , BITS Goa has impeccable placement statistics

I have no clue but the highest placements are in Computer and IT branches. Civil has probably the least placement. The quality is good thanks to IIT and NIT being in the same campus thus the big companies that come to those colleges also come to our colleges but they prefer those students more because NIT and IIT are more prestigious colleges.
