Remarks

The college is very old and has been established in the 1950's. The atmosphere is very good for promoting studies. Since it is located near to the town all the essentials can be easily bought without much wandering. The Hospital is also situated very near to the college which makes it easy to go there too.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The Course comprises of 4 and half years of Learning and finally 1 year of working in the hospital. You graduate only after completing all these. The first year duration is 1 year and exams are conducted yearly. There is only internal assessments in between. The second year duration is 1 and half years where you have to attend postings in you hospital and there is theory classes in the afternoon. The third year and final year is also 1 year each and university exams Are conducted at the end of those 1 year. Once you pass you can complete your 1 year bond. If you fail to pass any one paper you have to wait 6 months to afain attend the exam.

Placement Experience

4

After completing the course as i have said you have to work for 1 year in the college. Then only you will be given the graduation certificate. They provide stipend of around 20000 out of which around 5000 will be taken for the mess fees. The experience is quite tiresome. Since you are the juniormost doctor you have to do almost all the works that your seniors provide. There is no specific work time. Most of the time it will be a relief to even find time for sleep.

College Events

3.5

Our college celebrates a number of events. One of the even is name 'Vyuha' which is an intercollege arts festival conducted every 3 years. It is mostly conducted by the caninet batch during that year. Other event conducted includes 'TIMS' which is an intercollege sports meet. Colleges from all over tamil nadu attend this meet. Other events conducted include MedExpo(exhibition), Blood Donation Camps, Arts Festival, intracollege sports meet, Blood donation Marathon, etc

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since it is a government medical college the fees are very feasible. The yearly college fees varvariesues between 4000 to 7000. Other fees include monthly mess fees, hostel fees, establishment fees etc. They are also totally around 10000 per month

Fees and Financial Aid

The college provides scholarship to students who are from a very low socioeconomic status. Students can apply yearly for the scholarship and only about 10 students will be selected per year. Those who have been selected once wont be selected again as to provide equal distribution to all of them.

Campus Life

3

The College do not provide much of extra curricular activities. They may have a weekly quiz club which is not that good as they are not regular. There is ground for playing football hockey and basketball. The football grounds are not maintained well. The college supports sports development.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Hostel fees includes mess bills and establishment bills. The mess bill will be around 4000 to 5000. Establishment will be around 750 per month. They have to be paid before the allotted time to avoid paying fine

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors are very helpful during the exam time. They help you in your studies and other activities just like you are their brother. Their help made me reach the level where iam today. The aluminees of the college are all over madurai. They have their own private clinics situated around Madurai. They also Conduct an yearly aluminee meet that lasts for 1 day.

Admission

I am from Kerala. I did not secure a good rank in kerala entrance. So obviously I Got admitted to this college via All India Entrance Test (AIPMT). I wrote all other entrances and all went in vain. There are three allotments for which you can select you college of interest in a descending manner. Depending on you rank in entrance they will allot you to a college in the list. Initially i was alloted to Thirunalveli Govt. medical college and only in the third allotment was i alloted to Madurai Medical College. I had to report in the College the next day to confirm my seat and provide them with all the 10th and 12 th mark lists and other ID proofs.

Faculty

4.5

The college has a large number of experienced faculties spread across diffeerent departments. Most of the teachers are aluminees of the college. They provide valuable teachings based on their experiences. They are student friendly. You can approach for any kind of matter and they will help you. The dean of the college changes frequently.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is very extensive and there are 18 subjects to study split over a period of 5 years which includes internship also. Though the curriculum is vast it is a scared job that has motivated me to choose this course. The curriculum and teaching methods help us in treating patients and improving our academics. Improvements that can be made includes improving the patient exposure and communication skills with practical expertise. The exams are conducted yearly once, with the paper being moderate to difficult. There should be more clinical orientation to improve clinical skills rather than only studying books and improving knowledge

Course Curriculum Overview:

I personally like science so i took up this course. The college prepares you very well for the real world. By the end of the 5years you would become a full fledged doctor. The current teaching methods are fine but more of mcqs should be concentrated rather than theory writing. According to me the internals are fine but the university exams are very difficult.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) is pretty relevant to today's needs of a doctor, with more competency based skill learning and regular assessment of students, along with subjects like attitude, ethics and communication skills, pandemic modules etc. The only disadvantage is it still has a few redundant systems such as record maintenance etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Being a doctor, I can help people a lot. There is a lot to study and knowing the human body, to cure disease, and much more is a great experience. The curriculum prepares me to do great in my future endeavors. The thing I think they lack is a bit more clinical exposure for all students separately. Teaching methods are all good. They conduct exams after each important section, they teach. Around 6-7, internal exams are kept.
