Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course is very extensive and there are 18 subjects to study split over a period of 5 years which includes internship also. Though the curriculum is vast it is a scared job that has motivated me to choose this course. The curriculum and teaching methods help us in treating patients and improving our academics. Improvements that can be made includes improving the patient exposure and communication skills with practical expertise. The exams are conducted yearly once, with the paper being moderate to difficult. There should be more clinical orientation to improve clinical skills rather than only studying books and improving knowledge

Internships Opportunities

5

The college provides compulsory internship soon after the course is completed. During internship stipend of 25k is provided. After internship you can work in private nd government hospitals to improve you skills with a minimum salary of 50k. One can work as medical officer after completing the course and internship.

Fees and Financial Aid

The course fee varies depending on the seat allotment. The fees for various categories are as follows: Government- 6 lpa Management - 20lpa NRI- 30 lpa This is not fixed and increases with every batch. This includes the tution fee, hostel, book fee, caution fee, registration, admission, development and lab fee. For malayalam speaking minority fee fee concession of 2lpa is available. For SC/ST community also fee concession is available depending on whether they are first generation doctors in their family. The hostel are comulsory and is included in this. It is about 1lpa.

Campus Life

4

Onam is the most celebrated festival of the year. The college provides an extensive holiday of 2 weeks for this festival every year with lots of fun filled programs and celebration. It is typically held at the end of august. Pongal is another festive celebrated in our college every year. The college has a huge library with vast range of books and journals. The classrooms and air conditioned and there are labs and museums in the campus. The infrastructure is very good. Anatomy dissection halls and lecture halls are well maintained. The sports and extracurricular activities are conducted once every year.

Hostel Facilities

5

The hostel stay is compulsory. The food served is good. The menu changes every year. The timing for mess is 7 to 8 in the morning. 12 to 2 in the afternoon and 7 to 9 at night. The rooms are single rooms with attached bathrooms and they are well ventilated. The hostel and affordability will be informed at the time of admission.

Admission

The colleges i applied includes government and other deemed universities. Psg institute of medical science coimbatore, kasturba mangalore were among other colleges applied. Choose this college since my cousin studied here and told good reviews about this college. The proximity was nother reason for choosing this college. The admission is by NEET examination conducted by NBE. This sylabus includes 11 and 12th biology, chemistry and physics. Eligibiltiy is 50% marks in NEET exam which is a competitive exam. During the admission process there were a lot of chaos as we were the first batch in tamilnadu in which neet exam was taken for admission to various colleges. Previously marks in 12th board was considered for admission process. Now NEET has become the standard exam for admission to any medical college and is the preferred exam for all medical aspirants. The cutoff for the exam is 50 percentile. I could not make it to government college as we had studied matric syllabus instead of cbse. NEET is completely based in CBSE syllabus and hence i had to completely study the cbse textbooks to clear the neet exam after by board exams which was really a hard task.

Faculty

5

The college has good faculties who are well experienced and knowledgeable. The student to faculty ratio is 3:10. The faculties are very approchable and help students in getting their doubts clarified. Some of the faculties i liked were anatomy professor Dr.Mukundan Sir,my pathology professor Dr.Shantha mam. There are exams every month. This makes the final preparation easy as we learn on a daily basis. The exams are moderate to difficult. More than 70 percent pass the exams. The course is extensive and very much relevant. The final exams every year will be conducted by the MGR medical university at the end of the year.

Night Life

5

The is canteen which is open 24x7. The hostels are well maintained. The library is open till 6 in the evening. Gym fcilities are avilable within the hostel The hangout places in the vampus is the canteen/ cafeteria where we enjoy a cup of tea and have leisure talks with friends. The girls hostel closes by 6 in the evening, whereas the boys hostel remains open till 11 at night. The security and safety is very good in the campus. There are CCTV cameras installed at every location within the campus and in the hospital making it highly safe for girls.

Course Curriculum Overview:

the course is very challenging obviously as we're studying to become doctors. it could've been better by increasing the duration of the course. our first year/ semester instead of it being for 12 months was only of 9-10 months so our portions are being pushed a little. it happened due the scam etc around neet and our course start date was pushed. the course could be made easier by increasing the duration of the course. we have exams every week which does make it easier to keep up with the portions but makes it too stressful for us. maybe instead of keeping exams on monday they could change it to saturday so we can relax and be free on sundays.
