NIT Jamshedpur, B.Tech {Hons.}, Metallurgical & Materials Engineering

Remarks

The college infrastructure is very bad,so much so that most students are disheartened when they come to Jamshedpur in their first year of study. However, there are alot of extracurricular and sports activities going on which interests students. The professors are not ideal but we get used to them.At the end of it,you get a decent job so you walk out of the college satisfied.

Course Curriculum Overview

2

The course is outdated. On doing vocational training in the industry one realises that what is being taught in class has become irrelevant and obsolete.Soft skills and communication is taught, but given no importance which explains why a majority of undergraduate students are labelled unemployable. Midsemester and end semester exams of 30 and 50 marks is conducted.20 marks are awarded by the teacher,as he deems fit.

Placement Experience

4

The placement is the best aspect of NIT Jamshedpur.A large number of Core as well as Non Core companies recruit on campus. We have also seen the arrival of few trading companies as well.Hence the placement scenario is better than colleges belonging to this tier. Companies also give internships to students on campus. I have not done any internship yet.

College Events

3.5

1.Independence and Republic Day Hoisting of the national flag and cultural programme thereafter. 2.Ojass-A techno Management Fest 3.Culfest-A cultural fest to showcase talents in dance singing painting quizzing etc 4.Various departmental fests. 5.Varous initiatives of the Government of India, like the Yoga Day and FIT India Movement, which the GoI may by order specify.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It is very expensive, being a institute of national importance. The annual tuition fee alone is around 1 lakh which is preposterously high given that the education of the students is partly funded by tax payers money.

Fees and Financial Aid

1.Malli Mastan Scholarship For 4 students, given 25000 each. 2.Fee waiver for students belonging to SC/ST community. 3.Fee waiver for economically weaker sections of all castes. The on campus branch of SBI facilitates hassle free loans at lesser interest rates exclusively for students of NIT Jamshedpur.

Campus Life

1

There are various clubs like the aeromodelling club of NIT Jamshedpur,Phoenix,Baja racing club Daksh, quizzing club QuNITe, literary club,Lds and so on. The labs are in pathetic condition. The infrastructure is doomed There are not enough working toilets in the administrative block. The sports infrastructure is well developed. There are enough opportunities to participate in sports.

Alumni/Alumna

There is a team called Industry and Alumni relations which works closely with Dean Alumni and Honble Director of the institute to secure a strong and connected alumni base.An alumni meet is conducted every year. The alumni have recently funded around 1.25lakhs for a memorial quiz in the name of Sunit Mohanty,an alumnus who died in a plane crash in the IAF plane AN 32

Admission

The admission is done on the basis of ones rank in JEE Main.JEE is now conducted by NTA.According to one's rank, provisional allotment is done and after the end of seven rounds of counselling, admission was given.

Faculty

2

There are alot of learned faculty who do their job well and are dedicated towards creating a learning environment. There are many professors who just want to make the life of students very difficult. The third category, who do the bare minimum, also exists.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Actually my branch is Electronics and communication engineering but my major interest lies in development area , i have gained all the skills in my college by my own taking some guidance from the seniors as they are very helpful and supporting. Improvements in course curriculum could be like they have to basically add one more course or any training program to help students for making skills and teaching them for their placements.(apart of the course , i am saying not because i am from ECE department , its common from any branch student)
