Remarks
If i was to weigh both the pro's and con's, i believe that the con's would be outweighed hands down. There were many issues internally of course, but then thats not something that deserves the limelight. When students from differnet political, economic and social background come together, there are bound to be differences, but that did not stop Mar Ivanios from being a haven. Mar Ivanios was undoubtedly a second home to thousands of students and will continue to be so for many more years to come. The towering arch with the words "Mar Ivanios College" edged on them, the long corridors ringing with the voices of students and teachers, the patches of soothing lush greenery where students sit to catch up with the latest gossips, and above all the steps right after the arch which leads us to the first sight of the main building. Sigh.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum overall could improve in my opinion. There were subjects like photojournalism which were taught entirely from a theortical perspective, instead od an on-field practical approach. We had internal exams every semester, and a final external exam. Towards the final semester we had viva voce's and other submissions.
Placement Experience
There were very few if not any placements or job oppurtunities knocking at the door step pf our department. Which was also a good thing, as many of my batchmates, myself included, went on to pursue Masters degrees. And No, our college did not provide an internship of any sort.
College Events
Our college had plenty of departments, which meant that there was a diverse learning environment within the walls of our campus. Of course, the magnum opus and the pride of all the students, would have to be our inter-college fest, "Ivano Fest", which has been known to attract students from all over Kerala.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It is feasible as it is a government aided college. Students do not have to shell out a lot of cash to pursue their course of interest here. Although, there are some course which are "self-financed", but even then, i believe the fee structure does not follow under the category of being too expensive.
Fees and Financial Aid
I have not availed any scholarships so far, as i fall under the creamy layer of OBCs. However i am aware that there are scholarships for students belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, which exempts them from paying the fees.
Campus Life
Again, my college is well known for being the second home to many budding sports personalities. A notable name would have to be the current Indian cricket team player Sanju Samson who was an alumnus of the department of English, Mar Ivanios College.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes. They are very helpful. If i was to talk about my department in particular, we have groups on social media networks where we collaborate to share thoughts on currents affairs, controversies and the lot. We also conduct back to college programs were we meet up in person, usually at the college itself, to socialize and to create, as well rekindle old memories.
Admission
There was a written test, following which students were admitted based on their performance. The questions were mostly MCQ's which were based on current affairs. Also, there were descriptive questions which required the students to give their personal opinions on global news.
Faculty
As far as my department was concerned, we had some of the best faculty members we could have asked for. They handled all the subjects meticulously and also conducted programs to help us kindle our creativity.
