One of my friends recently completed Biotechnology at NIT Rourkela and shared his experience of the same.
- The Department of Biotechnology and Medical Engineering is relatively new so you shouldn’t expect very high packages like other branches.
- Companies like TCS, IBM, Infosys, and a few analytics companies make offers to students of this branch but the selection process is very challenging.
- The curriculum of this branch is not at par with industry standards and is a major reason for poor demand. This limits the opportunities for the students to a great extent.
- The professors are very rigid and adopt a very tough grading system. They don’t motivate you to try any creative stuff and only force you to mug up the theoretical concepts.
- The professors are underqualified and some even lack a Bachelor's degree from top colleges like NITs, IITs, or other universities
Overall, the branch should be considered unless you are specifically inclined towards it and have no expectations of high packages.
