MS (CSE) program offered at IIT Madras is strongly inclined towards research and has minimal coursework, unlike MTech.

The shortlisting process includes two steps;

Written test based on GATE and Undergraduate scores
Shortlisted for an interview based on a written test.

Thus the program is worth going for and has better placements than MTech today.
