While I appreciate St. Joseph's College, I have to mention PSG Arts and Science College in Coimbatore as a solid option too. The Bachelor of Computer Applications [BCA] course there offers a well-structured curriculum and the faculty is quite experienced. The college also arranges internships with well-known companies, which is crucial for job readiness. The fees are manageable, making it accessible for many students. They also have various clubs and activities that make campus life enjoyable. Both colleges have their strengths, but the choice really depends on what you're looking for.
I attended St Joseph College in Trichy back in 1971 and did my post-graduation in Botany there. I'm still very proud of being an SJC student. At that time, only five colleges in Tamil Nadu offered a PG course in Botany, with around 60 students in total. The other colleges were Presidency, Pachayappas, MCC, and Holy Cross College in Trichy, which was only for women. SJC was the newest among them to offer this course. I was part of the fifth batch to enroll. Despite being new, the facilities and resources were amazing. We had a fantastic College Central Library and a specialized Botany library that other Botany PG students envied. Our labs were top-notch, and we had a huge Herbarium with a great collection.
Admissions were purely based on merit, and our faculty was outstanding, with each teacher being exceptional in their own way. I was fortunate to have such great mentors who not only taught us but also guided every one of the 16 students in my batch. There wasn't a formal system for campus placements, but everyone who graduated found jobs. Many classmates went into teaching and were successful. We learned a lot more than just academics; we also picked up important values. I still think fondly of my teachers and am grateful to them. I'm not making a comparison with the other colleges.
Hi! I'm currently studying at Madras Christian College, and from my experience, it's the top arts and science college in Tamil Nadu. It's not just about academics here; it offers a lot for life beyond studies too.
I’ve heard good things about Madras Christian College, but personally, I’d lean towards St. Joseph's College for my Bachelor of Commerce [B.Com]. The campus life is lively and there are lots of opportunities for placements after the 5th semester, with packages ranging from 1,80,000 to 3,50,000 per annum. The college is known for its supportive faculty and the infrastructure is impressive. The fees are also quite low, making it easy for students from different backgrounds to afford. So, based on my experience, I'd say St. Joseph's is a better pick!
Madras Christian College, for sure! While MCC isn't as liberal as it once was, the value of its certificate is still unmatched by St. Joseph or PSG.
