What is your review of National Institute of Engineering Mysore?

I'm currently studying Electronics & Communication Engineering at NIE Mysore. The curriculum is good, focusing on both theory and practical application, which is helpful. The faculty is approachable, and there’s a decent student-to-faculty ratio. When it comes to placements, companies like Infosys and Wipro visit, and the average package is around 7-8 lakhs. The hostel facilities are acceptable, but the food could be better. We have one main fest every year, TechNIEks, which is a nice break from the academics. Overall, it's a solid college for engineering.

Honestly, NIE is a pretty solid college and ranks among the top in Mysore and Karnataka. I studied there from 2014 to 2018 in Civil Engineering. The global reputation of NIE is impressive, and people often react with curiosity and respect when they hear you're from there (I've noticed this a lot). Plus, the numbers speak for themselves. NIE consistently ranks among India's top colleges. It has received TEQIP grants from the World Bank. When I graduated, the Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering departments were NBA accredited. That's my take on the college where I studied. I chose my course, Computer Science Engineering at NIE Mysore, mainly for its placement record. The faculty is mostly qualified, but like any college, some are better than others. The curriculum is pretty good, though the exams can be a bit stressful with frequent assessments.

The internship opportunities are quite decent; from the 6th semester onwards, we can start applying for internships with companies like JP Morgan and Infosys. The highest package offered last year was 56 lakhs, which is impressive. Overall, I feel the college prepares us well for the job market.

I graduated from NIE in 2008, which was the first year it became autonomous. Here's my take on it. The computer science and mechanical departments are pretty decent. However, the infrastructure isn't as good as JC's. You'll find that about half of the lecturers are great, while the other half are not so much, and a few are pretty terrible.

The mechanical department is quite strict. It's really important to focus on self-study and not depend on the lecturers too much. The Syndicate Bank on campus is really bad, and I'm sure every student would agree with that. Overall, NIE is fine in several aspects, but if I had to pick between NIE and JC, I would go with JC.

NIE Mysore is a decent place to study Information Science & Engineering. The faculty is generally supportive, with many holding PhDs, which adds credibility to the teaching. The curriculum is quite rigorous, with exams scheduled almost every month, making it essential to stay on top of your studies.

The placement opportunities are good; last year the highest package was around 54 lakhs, and the average was about 10-12 lakhs. You do have to focus on maintaining a good CGPA, as placements start from the 6th semester, and many companies come to recruit students. Overall, it can be a good choice if you are serious about your studies and career.
