What is that only IIM Kozhikode has but no other IIM does??

Every IIM has its own special vibe, and IIM Kozhikode is no different. From my own time spent there during the Backwaters event in 2010, I noticed a few unique things. The campus feels like a hilltop resort, which is super cool. As you drive up the road, you catch sight of a cricket ground, and then you come across these rooms that feel like cozy cottages surrounded by greenery. The whole atmosphere is amazing.

The Post Graduate Programme in Management (Liberal Studies) at IIM Kozhikode is exceptional in that it integrates management with liberal arts subjects like psychology and sociology. This unique blend helps in gaining diverse perspectives that aren't typically offered at other IIMs.

Each IIM has its own special features, and this is certainly the case with IIM Kozhikode.

Before diving in, let me mention two things:
I'm set to join the IIM K PGP 19–21 batch, so my insights come from what seniors have shared. I'll have more concrete info after a few months there.
I won't be discussing the campus's stunning beauty, as that's already well-known.

Now, onto what makes IIM Kozhikode stand out:

Beyond just teaching management, I think a school should also promote social responsibility. IIM Kozhikode does this with its Social Development Project (SDP) during the first term. Students get to work with NGOs, observe their efforts, identify issues, and suggest solutions.

IIM Kozhikode also offers some unique courses, like learning about Competitive Strategy through a game of Poker.

In some ways, IIM K is a trendsetter. A few years ago, they lowered their fees and added extra seats for women, initiatives that the industry appreciates and other schools have adopted.

If you look up 'The best professor in India?' online, you'll likely see Prof. A.F. Mathew's name pop up. While I don't personally support such questions, it's clear he's highly regarded both within and outside the institute. I've heard that students even gather in halls just to hear him speak.

I'll share more once I've spent some time at the institute and gained more firsthand experience.
