An entirely new life adventure!
2021: Before IIM Kozhikode
I used to start my day at 6 am, get ready by 8, spend the whole day hitting the books, and hit the sack by midnight. Because of the pandemic and online classes, socializing was out of the question. My days were all about studying and indulging in my hobbies inside my room for a year.
June 2022: Entering IIM Kozhikode
Fast forward to midnight, and you'll find me strolling around the campus with friends. After that, it's time for study sessions, group projects, internship prep, cultural events, and committee tasks until 4 am. Then, I catch the sunrise from the mountains, walk around the cloud-covered campus, and head back to the hostel. I grab around 4 to 5 hours of sleep, then dash to lectures after a quick breakfast at 9 am. Classes usually wrap up by 4, allowing me a short nap. Back to group study mode for internship prep. Even if we're tired, we encourage each other to keep going! This was my routine during the first term. If not prepping for internships, we were busy with mid-terms, finals, quizzes, assignments, case competitions, or just chatting about life to maintain our all-nighter routine.
Managing with just 4 hours of sleep seemed impossible before. But after experiencing the shift in my routine and personal growth, I realized it's the unique ecosystem at IIMK that makes this change happen. I've gone from being cooped up in my room studying all day to engaging in various activities outside. This place teaches you that learning extends beyond the classroom.
I've shifted from sticking to a strict schedule to embracing spontaneity, from being an early riser to a night owl, and from isolation to meeting over 100 new people and forming lasting connections. I've joined committees and clubs, both formal and informal, and volunteer for festivals and events whenever I can. If you're eager and manage your time wisely, the institute offers a complete transformative learning experience.
Every day at IIMK is different, and that's what makes it special. One night might be spent watching a movie in the amphitheater, while another is dedicated to case studies in the library. You could spend a day exploring the mountains and beaches or have deep conversations with amazing people at 3 am.
In short, it's a transformative journey on a campus that never sleeps!
The campus life at IIM Kozhikode is vibrant, especially in the Post Graduate Programme in Management (Liberal Studies). The beautiful campus feels like a resort and offers a range of facilities, from sports to ample libraries.
The curriculum is diverse, integrating liberal studies with management, which fosters a broad understanding of various fields. Lots of companies visit for internships and final placements, and the average package can be quite attractive.
However, the fees are on the higher side compared to other IIMs, around 21 lakhs for the two years. Overall, the experience is a mix of rigorous academics and fun extracurriculars, making it a unique place to study.
At IIM Kozhikode in the Post Graduate Program in Management (Finance), life is full of opportunities. The curriculum is tailored to finance, and the faculty is well-qualified, which makes a huge difference in understanding complex subjects. The campus life is lively, with many events and interactions with peers from diverse backgrounds.
The placement scenario is impressive as well, with a 100% placement record and companies like JPMorgan and BCG visiting for recruitment. However, the fees are on the higher side, around 20.5 lakhs for the course, which can be a concern for many. Still, the overall environment and networking opportunities are quite enriching.
A completely new life adventure!
2021: Before IIM Kozhikode
I'd start my day at 6, get ready by 8, and then dive into studying all day long, hitting the sack by midnight. Socializing was off the table because of the pandemic and online classes, which meant my days were mostly spent studying and indulging in hobbies within my room for an entire year.
June 2022: At IIM Kozhikode
It's midnight, and I'm strolling around campus with friends. Coming up next are study sessions, group projects, internship prep, cultural events, committee elections, and tasks that keep me busy until 4 am. Afterwards, I head to watch the sunrise from the mountains, with clouds draping the campus. I take a walk, return to the hostel, catch about 4 to 5 hours of sleep, and then rush off to lectures after a quick breakfast at 9 am. Classes usually wrap up by 4, allowing me to sneak in a nap for an hour or two. Then it's back to group study sessions for internship prep. Even when we're a bit worn out, we motivate each other to push through the night and tackle the day together! This was the norm during my first term. If it wasn't prepping for internships, we were gearing up for mid-terms, end-terms, quizzes, assignments, case contests, outings, or having deep chats to maintain the all-nighter routine.
Initially, I couldn't fathom how people at IIMs managed with just 4 hours of sleep and overnight study marathons. But after arriving here and seeing the change in my schedule and myself, I pondered what enables this transformation. The answer lies in the environment at IIMK. I've evolved from being confined to my room and constantly studying to being out and about, doing everything except studying. But that's exactly what the institute imparts - learning extends beyond the classroom.
I've gone from strictly following a routine to being unable to stick to one, from being an early riser to becoming a night owl, from being cooped up in my room for a year to meeting over 100 people and forming incredible connections daily. This subtle change in such a short time is something I truly enjoy!
I'm involved in both formal and informal committees and clubs, volunteer for festivals and event organizing teams, participate in competitions, and seize any opportunity that comes my way. If you're willing to look for it and manage your time wisely, the institute offers everything to ensure a transformative learning journey!
Every day is unique at K, which is what makes it special. One night you might be at the amphitheater watching a movie, while another night you could be in the library working on case studies. You could spend a day enjoying the mountains and beaches, and another just chatting for hours about life with amazing people at 3 am.
In a nutshell, it's a transformational journey at the ever-awake campus!
Life at IIM Kozhikode for the Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP) is quite intense. The curriculum is thorough, but the focus on theory can be overwhelming, especially with exams every three months. It feels like a race to prepare right after classes, which often end just a day before the exams.
Unlike regular MBA courses, there's a lack of extracurricular activities since EPGP students can’t join clubs or stay on campus during the immersion program. The faculty varies; some are really good while others seem less engaged, which adds to the frustration. Overall, it's a challenging environment, but it's also a unique experience to learn alongside professionals with significant work experience.
