What is the value of doing BHU BSc Math Honours?

HS
Himangi Srivastava Posted On : November 18th, 2022
Student at Banaras Hindu University (2019-present)

My sister’s friend could not score a good rank in engineering but was lucky enough to get a seat in BHU UET for Maths Hons.

She shared her experience that this was the best decision of her life as she felt unique. She made a lot of memories and befriended many talented people.

She lived her college life to her fullest extent. From hostels to backlogs, she experienced all the fun. Despite creating hundreds of memories, today her batchmates are in IITs, 10% in IISc Banglore, 15% in IISERs, and 10% in IIMs. The others are booming in their own fields.

Which one should I choose: MS by Research program or M Tech at IIIT Hyderabad?

AS

If your future goal is getting a high paying job, choose the M.Tech program at IIIT Hyderabad. The course fee is high but an average package of around INR 31 LPA is offered to M.Tech students. Thus, you will be able to easily cover your education expenses within a year of your job.

If you are really interested in Research, you should choose the MS by Research program. The average time for completing the MS program is 3 years, but depending upon your guide, you can also complete the program earlier than that. At present, the duration has even come down to 2.5 years.

MS students sit with M.Tech students during IIIT Hyderabad placements and get equal placement opportunities. However, as an MS student you will get so involved in research work that instead of going for a job you will probably end up doing Ph.D. If you are interested in CV/ML, its course structure and guidance at IIIT Hyderabad are top notch. The MS course is very flexible and you study subjects that are relevant for your research.

Overall, whether you go for MS by Research or M.Tech at IIIT Hyderabad is a matter of your personal goals.

I am confused amongst IIIT Delhi, NSIT, and DTU for CSE. What are some suggestions?

SK

All three colleges namely, IIIT Delhi, NSIT, and DTU are excellent options for CSE. However, you might want to consider the following points before making the final decision

  • Campus life: In terms of campus life, the DTU is the best option followed by NSUT and IIIT Delhi. DTU offers a very laid-back cap pledge life experience with a minimal workload and a lot of time to pursue your hobbies. There aren’t many restrictions on attendance also.
  • Curriculum: IIIT Delhi is a clear winner in terms of curriculum as it has no extra subjects in the first year. Students are taught coding languages and related assignments from day one and thus prepare students better than their counterparts.
  • Research: IIIT Delhi is a research-oriented institute and has better research facilities, labs, and resources. DTU and NSUT have a similar research culture.
  • Infrastructure: IIIT Delhi is a newly established college so has modern infrastructure, although the campus is small. DTU and NSUT have larger campuses and better sports facilities.
  • Fees: IIIT Delhi charges extremely high fees around INR 4.62 Lakhs (1st Year Fees) which is almost double the fees charged by DTU INR 2.19 Lakhs (1st Year Fees)

So choose wisely based on your priorities!

Which is better: Electronics and Instrumentation in BITS Pilani or Computer Science in BITS Goa or Hyderabad? Why?

DS
Divya Saraf Posted On : August 5th, 2023

The decision should be completely based on your interests. It is always better to choose a course that has ample opportunities; otherwise, you will end up jobless. You have to maintain a good CGPA to get a placement here since the competition level is very high. BITS Pilani is comparatively better at academics and placement support than BITS, Goa, or Hyderabad.

When it comes to the selection of the course, Electronics and Instrumentation are a bit difficult for scoring a good CGPA. After this course, you are open to both CSE and EEE fields for your higher studies (based on the electives you have selected).

CSE is comparatively better, which opens up  high opportunities and BITS across India provides placement support for students with good CGPA

So, choose wisely based on your interests.

Will I get a good placement with 70% in 10th, 70% in 12th, 63% in graduation, and an MBA from FMS Delhi?

AR

If you are concerned about your past academic records then rest assured for the final placements don’t usually pay much attention to past academic records.

MBA is much more than just learning and writing your answers and scoring good marks. It is more about applying logic and increasing your decision-making skills. So to compensate for your poor past academic performance, become a part of the managerial committee and improve your resume. Enhancing your decision-making and managerial skills will increase your chances of getting a good placement than your academic background.

Also, FMS in itself is a brand name that will fetch you a good package.

Are there any reservations in the NMIMS?

RB
Rohan Bose Posted On : May 25th, 2021
studied MBA in Marketing at SVKM's NMIMS (2019)

NMIMS is a private university founded by the Gujaratis and so, in the initial days, it remained with a greater portion of reservation (50%) for Gujarati’s. But, later on, this reservation comes to an end & now it follows only 2 reservation stated as follows:

  1. Reservation for female candidates (30%)
  2. Minor part of a reservation for widows/ wards of armed forces personnel killed/disabled in war/action or for Kashmiri migrants

Being a private university NMIMS has not had reservations based on caste; financial background; or management quota.

This does not mean that NMIMS would not comply with any kind of reservation in the future. It is a private university run by a trust and all the decisions would be taken by the members of the trust to further the university brand value.

Which is better for an MS in General Surgery: AIIMS, JIPMER or PGI?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 21st, 2023

Surgery can’t be read and understood. Also, no matter the number of simulations you run through, practicing on a human body is very different.

Now, with their limited number of beds, these institutions perform complex surgeries through protocol defining procedures. As a resident at these, you won’t perform many surgeries. Also, you’ll have a limited exposure to trivial diseases. On the flip side, you’ll witness some of the best surgeons at work, and access top notch technology. To master surgery, you’ll have to become an SR at these institutions.

But at a decent government college hospital, the volume of patients is very high. As a result, you’ll be pushed into the OT. So you’ll get good practice, under proper supervision. However, at these colleges, protocols take a back seat. You’ll have to compromise with low funding as a resident at these institutions.

I would personally recommend going for a decent government college. But you should choose according to your own preferences.

How can I crack the BHU entrance exam for BSC AG?

BG
Bhavna Gupta Posted On : November 18th, 2022
Studied at Institute of Science BHU

Cracking any entrance exam is not a cakewalk. It required hard work and determination. Similarly, for BSc AG at BHU, you will have to start preparing quite early.

Visit Lanka, a place in Varanasi where BHU entrance gate is situated. You will find some bookstores. Get the following -

  • BSc AG previous year papers

  • Arihant Publication

Practice questions that are intended for entrance exams from both as much as possible.

While attempting the exam, maintain a good speed and write accurate answers. Don’t lower your guard as many talented students from Bihar, UP or Bengal might grab your chances.

Which is better, IITD civil or IIT Dhanbad for CS?

AS
Akrit Shaha Posted On : October 11th, 2023
Lives in Dhanbad

Since you haven’t mentioned the branch you are interested in, I will assume you have no particular preference. Now, the primary factor to consider is if you value the brand of the college or the branch of your choice. Consider the following points

  • You can go for a less preferred branch at the top 5 IITs and then work hard for branch change. But this would be risky as branch change is very difficult.
  • If your target is to get placed with excellent packages, then choose the CSE branch, it has the best job opportunities.
  • You can also choose to work for noncore placements at the top 5 IITs. However, this will be very time-consuming as you have to manage both your noncore branch and CSE.

The best option would be to choose IIT Dhanbad CSE. It’s true that it won’t offer the opportunities and exposure that the top 5 IITs would but for me branch is more important than the brand name of the college. So, choose according to your preferences.
