How much does an Indian software engineer earn in the US? What is the scope of an MCA from JNU/NIT in the US?

SJ
Sekhar Juneja Posted On : May 4th, 2022
lives in Hyderabad, Telangana, India

In US, Indian software engineers earn around $60k-$80k in entry-level jobs. After 3-5 years of work experience, the salary amount becomes $90k-$130k. For software engineering professionals with around 5-10 years of experience, the salary package is around $130-$200k.

Jobs in the Software industry have little to do with the university you graduated from. The international recruiters look for skills. If you have industry-relevant skills, you will receive good placement opportunities. After doing an MCA you can get jobs in US, if you fulfill the skill requirement.

Which one would be a better choice, in terms of career, if one has the option to pursue a B.Tech/M.Tech in CSE from either the NITs/BITS or IIIT Hyderabad?

DS
Divya Saraf Posted On : July 28th, 2023

One of my friends was in a similar dilemma when he had to choose between NIT, BITS Pilani, and IIIT Hyderabad. Visiting the NITs he found out about their poor infrastructure so removed it from his preference list. Confused between BITS and IIIT he decided to consult his cousin in BITS and eventually decided to go for it. Today, he claims that choosing BITS was one of the wisest decisions of his life. He stated his entire experience that I have summarised below in points

  • BITS Pilani focuses on the holistic development of its students and its wide range of  clubs, departments, disciplinary associations, and regional associations develop you as a person and not just as an engineer.
  • The institute instills a sense of responsibility within you and you become an emphatic part of the society.
  • BITS Pilani gives you the chance to work on interdisciplinary projects with mechanical and electrical engineering students,
  • Here you will see an active entrepreneurship culture and the professors not only motivate but also assist the students in the same.
  • The research culture is another prominent feature and my friend won several international accolades.
  • You will be surprised to know that BITS is the only private Indian university that is working on sensitive military projects.
  • The BITS tag does help in securing good packages but the rest of the journey depends on your efforts, performance, practical experience, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

So, every institute be it IIIT Hyderabad, BITS Pilani or NIT Trichy offers its own kind of opportunities, culture, and resources. It depends on you, how much you are willing to make the most out of them.

Which is better, EE at DTU or ICE at NSIT?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : July 4th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

There is no better branch between EE at DTU and ICE at NSIT. It's all about preferences and inclinations. To help you make an informed decision let's talk about both the branches individually

EE at DTU

  • EE at DTU is core electrical engineering wherein you are taught concepts related to power, grids, electrical machines, etc.
  •  For placements, core companies like BHEL and companies in the energy field visit the campus.

ICE at NSIT

  • This branch has Control Engineering concepts along with electrical, electronics, and computer engineering.ICE has very light coursework and it's easy to maintain a good CGPA.
  • You also get enough time for your passions and extracurriculars.
  • IT giants like Facebook, Google, etc. Don't allow ICE students to sit for placements.
  • Core companies that recruit students of this branch include Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, and others.
  • Non-tech companies like BCG, Bain, and JPMC allow all students to sit for placements.
  • NSIT has a larger batch size and thus the competition here is less than DTU for placements but it still it cannot match the brand value of DTU.

In all, both DTU and NSIT have similar opportunities and placements so with the right mindset you can do well at both colleges.

What 's your view on the AI course offered by IIT Hyderabad, its cutoff, future scope, and course pressure?

HR
Himika Roy Posted On : May 9th, 2023
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (2021)

IIT Hyderabad is the first institute in India to launch a BTech program on AI engineering. I think the credibility of a certain field can be judged by its cutoff and the cutoff of AI has been seen as giving an edge to CSE of IIT Hyderabad and other old IITs.

What is the difference between M.Tech (CSE) and M.Tech (AI) at IISc Bangalore?

GS
Gaurav Shaha Posted On : July 14th, 2023
Studied at IISC Banglore

There are many points of difference between IISc MTech CSE and MTech AI. Some of them have been listed below

  • M.Tech CSE is the flagship M.Tech program from CSA whereas the M.Tech AI program is a new program that has been recently introduced by the EECS division.
  • There is a huge difference in the curriculum of both programs. Although both programs require 64 credits, the breakdown is different. For MTech CSE the department core requires a minimum of 24 credits comprising at least 8 credits each from Pool A, Pool B, and Pool C There is a project too. The remaining credits are for electives. The M.Tech AI course on the other hand has 19 credits from pool A subjects, 12 credits from pool B subjects, and 12 credits from electives. Additionally, there is a 21-credit project where one can work on interdisciplinary cutting-edge problems on AI.
  • M.Tech CSE admissions are done on the basis of GATE CS scores while the cut-off for M.Tech AI is decided by the applications from CS, EE, and ECE disciplines.

It's natural for a CSE B.Tech student who isn't certain of specializing in theory, systems, or AI, to go for an M.Tech (CSE). The curriculum is flexible and you can even choose electives or work on AI projects. But if you are certain o your inclination towards AI then M.Tech (AI) is an excellent choice.

Which college should I choose for CSE: BIET Jhansi, KNIT Sultanpur, MMM Gorakhpur or JSS Noida?

PS
Priyadarshini Sen Posted On : February 19th, 2021
B.Tech Electrical Engineering, Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology (2022)

Among all the mentioned colleges, MMM Gorakhpur is the best.

JSS Noida is a private college and all the other three colleges are government colleges. So, choosing a private UPTU college over a government college does not make sense.

Now, when you make a comparison between the other three government colleges i.e. BIET Jhansi, KNIT Sultanpur and MMM Gorakhpur, MMM Gorakhpur steals the show.

It is highly recommended because of the following reasons:

  1. Highly experienced faculty members
  2. Good and proper facilities
  3. The beautiful campus which is spread over 360 acres.

Alumni of MMM Gorakhpur are in India as well as in other countries working at prestigious positions. The institution has been given the status of a university from a college and there are proposals for it to be promoted to an NIT or an IIT. It can be said that MMM Gorakhpur has a bright future.

When it comes to campus placement, since JSS Noida is located at a better place than the others, it gets the location advantage and therefore, provides slightly better placement opportunities. But, being a student of MMM Gorakhpur will ensure you good packages in off-campus placements. It is you who will have to make the final decision.

How do I apply for a foreign language course in DU?

S
Saloni Posted On : October 10th, 2022
Bsc.(H)Mathematics from Lady Shri Ram College for Women

Admission to foreign language courses at Delhi University is relatively simple. You must investigate which colleges offer such courses and which languages are available. You should make a list of colleges that you will be comfortable in based on your requirements and the faculty.

Once you have a list, go to each college's website and look for all of the information there. The date of form distribution, the application deadline, the fee structure, time slots, and other pertinent information.

You can fill out the form online and then keep checking the site for the list. Once the list is published, you must check your name to see if it is on it, and if it is, you must go to the respective college with all of your documents in hard copy. They'll check your documents, and if everything checks out, you'll be seated.

After you've been admitted, you must pay the fees online within a certain number of days. Following payment, you will receive an email confirming your registration as a language student.

The forms are usually available in June and July, and there is a minimum fee for the form.
