I have an offer from KPMG in their Strategy Consulting division. Also another option from XIMB to pursue MBA right after grad. What should I do?

If you are considering taking a job offer from KPMG, it would be wise to do so right away. KPMG is a reputable company and gaining experience there can be beneficial for your future career goals. One option after working with KPMG for 2-3 years would be to pursue an MBA. However, it's important to consider if you have the time and patience to prepare for entrance exams for top-tier B-Schools in India, such as the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) or XLRI. If you feel confident in your ability to do so, it may be more beneficial to gain more work experience before going for an MBA.

On the other hand, if you think that you would not be able to focus on preparing for entrance exams while working, an MBA from Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar (XIMB) may be a more suitable option. Ultimately, it's important to consider your own goals and priorities when making a decision.

What is the scope of management consulting at B Schools like NMIMS, SIBM, SCMHRD and XIMB? Do non-engineers, freshers get such roles?

SG
Soumika Ghosal Posted On : April 17th, 2021
Studied at Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune (2019)

This would certainly not be easy for a non-engineer fresher to get management consulting roles in firms such as Accenture, McKinsey, Deloitte, EY, Capgemini etc.

  • Most of the above companies provide IT consulting, operations consulting, risk consulting, etc. at these institutes. You may expect these profiles.
  • However, if you are looking for strategic consulting, then these roles are offered at only top B-schools such as IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, XLRI, FMS, SPJIMR Mumbai, etc. Do not expect them to be offered at the listed institutes here.

Even if some companies do offer such roles, they care about your academics in your MBA, your work experience, your personality, and your background. They want to know if you are an engineer or not, they also want to know if you know about IT or not. There are various rounds of interviews lined up to test your skills and abilities.

So, yes there will be scope especially in IT consulting roles from these institutes. All you have to do is give your best efforts and leave the rest on the companies to decide what kind of professional they want.

How are the placements for the XIMB UMG course?

DM
Debottam Mukherjee Posted On : April 22nd, 2021
MBA from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (2019)

The only suggestion considering this question is that it is better not to join these courses. It is due to the current horrible situation in the real estate business market. Thereby, there are minimal chances to get a job as a city planner or infrastructural manager. Besides, the offered salaries are also below that average scale; thus, the ROI is extremely zero. The student will be frustrated later by facing these issues consecutively.

However, there are also some similar courses in XUB, NICMAR, RICS SBE, and SCMHRD. None of these is good. If you are interested in this type of career option, you can go for NICMAR, as it is an old institute. This institute also offers an average salary of about 6 LPA. Besides, it is required to study well, prepare for CAT, and get at least 90%. This is the ultimate option and allows you to choose a top-level institute among 30-40 colleges. Otherwise, it will be just wasting of hard-earned money.

What do I have to do to get a call from SP Jain or XIMB?

MJ
Manu Jha Posted On : March 13th, 2023
PGDRM, PRM38 from Institute of Rural Management, Anand

My answer will be strictly pertaining to SP Jain as my sister is a student there and I have quite a lot of information about the admission criteria there. SP Jain has unique criteria wherein almost 70% of the parameters are uncontrollable. Some of them include

  • Past Academic Record
  • Nature of work experience and employee brand value
  • Extracurricular background
  • Diversity of profile

These are some factors that are hardly in one’s control. So one should not be disappointed if she/he lacks in these aspects. Well, it is now that the factors that are controllable come into the picture. You can work on these factors and compensate for the flaws in your profile

  • Prepare for CAT/XAT/GMAT to the best of your ability.
  • Filling out the application form with a genuine portrayal of your personality and candidature in the fields where you are asked about your versatility, leadership quality etc.

If the stars align, you will surely get a call. From what I have heard, every PGDM batch has students with both exception profiles as well as normal profiles. So what you need to focus on is finding a unique trait of yourself and working on it relentlessly.

Which would be the best to join for an MBA: Narsee Monjee, XIMB, or IMT Ghaziabad?

SS
Shiv Shakti Posted On : February 16th, 2023
MBA in Marketing & Analytics, Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (Graduated 2018)

There are several factors to take into account when deciding between Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), and Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Ghaziabad. All three institutes are considered to be reputable and comparable in many ways, but each has its own unique strengths and weaknesses.

One disadvantage of Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies is its large batch strength. With a large number of students, it can be harder for students to receive individualized attention and support from faculty members. Additionally, the institute does not have hostels, which can be a significant additional cost for students. As a result, the MBA program at Narsee Monjee may cost around 4-5 lacs extra due to the need to stay outside.

On the other hand, if your career aspirations lie in the marketing field, IMT Ghaziabad is considered to be the best college. IMT Ghaziabad is known for its strong marketing program and its focus on providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the various aspects of marketing, such as consumer behavior, market research, and branding. Additionally, the institute's focus on providing students with practical training through internships, industry projects, and case studies, helps students to develop the skills and knowledge needed to excel in a career in marketing.

XIMB is considered to be good in almost everything. It has a balanced curriculum that covers all the important aspects of management. The faculty is experienced, and the institute is known for its research-oriented approach. Additionally, XIMB has a strong focus on sustainability and responsible management which makes it unique among other MBA colleges.

When considering a post-graduation program, it's important to research the different options available and weigh the pros and cons of each institute. Researching the institute's curriculum, faculty, and alumni network, as well as speaking to current students and alumni can help you to make an informed decision. Additionally, it would be a good idea to seek the opinion of professionals in the field you are interested in, as they can provide valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges of different career paths.
