Are 12th marks important during placements in XIMB?

SD
Subhasmita Das Posted On : May 31st, 2021
Studied at Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar

Although your summer placement is based upon your previous academic records, the final placement is more dependent on what you do in the B-school. Standards may be different and vary from student to student but, in terms of good opportunities at these B-schools, even an average student gets a decent internship.

If you work hard enough to be in the top half of the batch, you can definitely expect a good placement offer. Also, academics are not the only field that matters for the placement. There are other various factors at play such as academics, personality, additional skills, passion, and other interpersonal skills.

Many times it’s seen that students with decent academics record trails behind the students with average academics records. So, while getting admission in the B-school don’t overthink about the placement. B- school gives you various opportunities to cross the limits, so do your best. Hard work and dedication can surely defeat average academic records.

What is the approximate XAT cutoff percentile for getting a GDPI call for HRM/Business Management/Global MBA from XIMB Bhubaneswar?

JT
Jayant Thakur Posted On : February 2nd, 2023
CAT trainer who is an MBA from XLRI and BTech from NIT-Bhopal

When it comes to the cut-offs for XLRI's HRM and BM programs, it is important to note that they are generally quite high. Specifically, for the HRM program, XAT cut off at XIMB is typically around the 85+ percentile. For the BM program, the cut-off is typically around the 90+ percentile.

While these cut-offs may seem quite high, it is important to note that they are only the minimum requirements for being considered for the final conversion process. In order to have a good chance of being accepted into the program, you should aim for a 95+ percentile or higher cut-off. The competition for these programs is extremely high, and a high cut-off can help to set you apart from the rest of the pool.

While achieving a high cut-off is important, it is not the only factor that is considered during the final conversion process. XLRI also considers other factors such as work experience, academics, performance in group discussions, and personal interviews.

In summary, while an 85+%ile or 90+%ile cut-off may be sufficient to be considered for the final conversion process for XLRI's HRM and BM programs, respectively, it is recommended that applicants aim for a cut-off of 95+ percentile or higher in order to have a better chance of being accepted into the program. Additionally, other factors like work experience, academics, and performance in GD and PI will also be considered.

What percentage of questions does one need to answer to clear XAT and get admission in XLRI or XIMB?

PG
Priyanka Ghosh Posted On : April 20th, 2021
Studied at Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (2019)

There is no definite percentage of questions you need to clear in order to secure yourself a seat in XLRI or XIMB. The obvious answer is every year the question paper difficulty level varies and so does the percentile cutoff.

Simply, your chances of getting a seat in both these institutes purely depend on your percentile just like JEE-Main rank is the criteria for national-level institutes.

My friend took admission in XIMB in 2018, the scores of their batch were between 56.5 to 89 out of 150. Here the person scoring has 100% percentile whereas the person getting 88.5 will be close to 99% percentile. Hence, the percentile cutoff varies each year.

For example, for admissions in 2019, the percentile cutoff was:

  • XLRI Jamshedpur: BM – 91.25, HR – 88 (With Sectional Cutoffs)
  • XIM Bhubaneswar: 94 (With sectional Cutoffs)

Here are few tips to secure a high percentile in these exams:

  • Focus on the accuracy of your answer. Do not just beat around the bush or select an answer which doesn’t hit the accuracy.
  • Try to solve at least 60% of the total questions. For the rest, you can solve the ones you know properly.
  • Always aim for the highest mark, you never know if you are the one having a 100% percentile.

Therefore, thinking about percentile cutoff is in vain until the results are out. As the cutoff will totally depend on your performance, it is best recommended to focus on your performance in the exam. After all, your success depends on your hard work and fervour towards your goal.

Is rural management from XIMB - 3 years work experience with TCS worth it?

AK
Anjini Kumar Posted On : April 20th, 2021
Ph.D. in Strategic Management, Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (2020)

Firstly, it is important to understand what management means to you. Yes, just like People going to Microsoft or Google post-Engineering were passionate about coding/computers vis-a-vis those who opted for say a TCS/Wipro. Therefore, if a Management education is an escape route from the monotonous coding life, do not go for this degree. Simply because after a few years of working, you might find yourself in a regretful situation.

Now coming to XIMB, Bhubaneswar as a college, these are the key highlights.

  • The colleges have an impeccable infrastructure.
  • The faculty is great.
  • Great campus culture
  • Good placements

However, check the following reasons why you should not go for the Rural Management course.

  • The Rural Management course requires a lot of fieldwork and expedition which won’t suffice the basic ROI model.
  • The course is shifted to the other campus which is situated in a suburban area. This is a huge downfall as you might be curtailed from important facilities and infrastructure.
  • Placement may not be that great, having invested 13 lacs as the course fee itself. With mediocre placement records, this might not be a good return on your investment.
  • With a 3 year experience in TCS and a continuous C band, the salary you have now will be more or less equal to what you might get after placements. Hence, it won’t make a huge difference.
  • Undoubtedly, the scope for courses like Rural Management is limited, that’s why most people who acquire an RM degree go for corporate jobs at last.

Rural Management in XIMB

Course Fee

13.80 lakh

Highest CTC

13.2 LPA

Average CTC

9 LPA

Overall, if you are very much into the management sector, go for courses like MBA and other PGDM courses instead of Rural Management. Limited scope, extensive fieldwork, mediocre placements is not a good return when you pay such a high fee. Hence, choose wisely.

What is a better course at XIMB between UMG (Urban Management and Governance) and SM (Sustainability Management)?

AB
Ankita Biswas Posted On : April 16th, 2021
KPMG (2019)

XIMB offers only Business Management course. All the other courses like SM and UMG are offered by different schools of XUB. Both the UMG and SM programs are niche courses and will offer you similar kinds of opportunities.

  • These courses are not offered by most of the b-schools you will find fewer opportunities as compared to that of HR and BM programs. You should choose the institute based on your interest.
  • Although the world is going through a big transformation process towards having a transformational society. The global economy is focusing more on sustainable economic development rather than just economic development. For this, we need academic professionals who can make this possible.
  • The sustainable management program will help you in boosting your career towards the sustainable development of society. You can build your focus on biodiversity conservation, food security, climate change, environmental governance, and saving primary resources like water, fisheries, forests, and minerals.

While the urban management program will help you in applying your skills towards urban governance, removal of urban poverty, and development of urban areas. You will have to take initiatives towards the removal of poverty, improvement of environmental conditions, and making efforts towards economic growth.

Should I join BM in XIMB?

IP
Isha Parasramka Posted On : March 13th, 2023
PGDM from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar

XIMB is one the top B schools in India and MBA in Business Management is its flagship course. Whether you should join it or not is your call depending on your inclinations and preferences. However, my answer entails various reasons why one must consider XIMB.

  • XIMB has a 31-year-long legacy which has resulted in its rich lineage, great faculty members, and an elaborate alumni base.
  • The institute is known for its research culture and development activities on a regular basis in collaboration with the government.
  • XIMB is granted the South Asian Quality Assurance Systems (SAQS) accreditation by the Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA) and the NBA Accreditation by the National Board of Accreditation for a period of 5 years for PGDM.
  • Unlike most B Schools it offers an MBA degree rather than a PGDM Diploma. An MBA gives a holistic view of the program while a PGDM focuses on a specific specialization.
  • XIMB also offers international exchange of students not only through the college but also through student-driven committees.
  • The faculty at XIMB are experts in their respective fields and have immense industry experience which is reflected in their pedagogy.
  • In the second year, you get an opportunity to do a double major, major plus minor in whichever fields (i.e. Marketing, Finance, operations, etc) we would like to gain knowledge and experience in. This gives us an opportunity to gain cross-functional knowledge and explore beyond our comfort zone, a quality required in the corporate world.
  • XIMB encourages extra-curricular/ co-curricular activities combining activities and academics which helps you to learn how to become a better manager and put your theoretical knowledge to the test.
  • Business seminars and talks hosted by industry leaders from every field are common in XIMB. These business talks help the students increase their practical knowledge with quality industry exposure.
  • XIMB holds a strong alumni base with alumni at top positions in various companies.
  • XIMB gives due importance to academics and learning through various projects, competitions, case studies, live projects, and faculty projects.
  • The students are constantly evaluated through quizzes and assignments to keep them on their toes. This helps them adjust to the hectic schedule they face in the corporate world.

Overall, the campus life at XIMB is unique and complete as it is a B-School that is forever awake.
