Why is the cut-off of IIIT Hyderabad so high that it is in fact higher than the top NITs?

AJ
Adinath Jain Posted On : July 28th, 2023
Studied at IIIT Hyderabad

It’s wrong to say that IIIT Hyderabad Cutoff has its cutoff more than NITs when NITs are the ones who are lowering the cutoffs with each passing year. IIIT-Hyderabad has been maintaining its standard from the beginning. Here are a few reasons why IIIT Hyderabad has high cutoffs

  • Unlike IITs and NITs, IIITs have no reservations, and admission is done on the basis of merit only.
  • No board marks for admission procedure
  • IIIT Hyderabad has built a strong image in terms of placements, academic and research work.
  • IIIT Hyderabad has a very ideal batch size and always gives preference to quality over quantity.
  • IIIT Hyderabad has a rich coding culture as it is home to some of the best minds in the country.

These are some strong reasons why IIIT Hyderabad has cutoffs even higher than NITs.

What is the placement scenario at IIT Hyderabad?

AC
Anupama Chauhan Posted On : July 7th, 2023
studied at International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad
Overall, the placement scenario at IIT Hyderabad is great but the high statistics might be misleading. The small batch size makes the figures inflated and the average package is recorded as high as INR 20.07 LPA.

However, IIT Hyderabad has developed at a fast rate and is considered the best among the new IITs. The table below shows the placement statistics for this year.

Highest Package

INR 63.78 LPA

Average Package

INR 20.07 LPA

Placement Percentage

74.90%

Number of Recruiters

335

Number of Students Placed

570

Number of Offers

621

Number of International Offers

55

Number of PPOs

104

We can infer from the above table that IIT Hyderabad has indeed performed higher than expectations but that does not mean it should be preferred to IIT BHU and IIT Guwahati. IIT Hyderabad should be considered over IIT BHU and IIT Guwahati only for similar branches because it cannot match the exposure and opportunities of old IITs.

Which is a better institution for doing a post-graduation: AIIMS or PGIMER, Chandigarh?

AB
Amit Bansal Posted On : November 22nd, 2021
Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh

Among AIIMS and PGIMER, the latter is comparably better. The experience and exposure you will get there are unmatched.

AIIMS has a tendency to refer simple or non-interesting cases to Safdarjung, so students don’t get the chance to see all types of cases. PGI on the other hand is not a referral medical center. So, residents can see all types of cases from simple to complicated.

Although owing to its location, AIIMS offers better training platforms for residents to take off.

What is your review of Institute of Management Studies, Ghaziabad?

KS
Khushi Sharma Posted On : June 28th, 2021
BJMC from Institute of Management Studies, Ghaziabad (2019)

One of my cousins studied at the Institute of Management Studies, Ghaziabad. According to him, it is not a good institute, he suggests not to go for it. Let me describe why he feels this way.

  • It provides 100% placement, but the majority of companies that come here are looking for sales aspirants. The packages are also inadequate, ranging from 3-5 LPA.
  • The teaching is good. There would be constant group discussions and presentations.
  • Academics do not have much value because just good grades will not get you a job. You need proper skills too.
  • The college has been around for nearly 30 years and still cannot attract good companies. This clearly demonstrates how inept this college has been as they have been busy swindling out money from people by making false claims.

Complaints from many students like my cousin were never taken into consideration. They have spent a lot of money here, and this is the response they get from the administration.

The only good thing about this college is that they offer a Study Tour to Singapore. Honestly, it is better to remain an undergraduate or take a year off to retake the CAT and other aptitude exams in order to join a good institute.

What is so special about IIM Calcutta? It is one of the oldest IIMs in the country, but what makes it stand out from other institutes in imparting management education? Why would someone join IIM C?

RK
Ramana Krishnan Posted On : November 25th, 2022
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (Graduated 2018)

Surely IIM Calcutta is the oldest and yet stands out the most from other IIMs. But trust me it has nothing to do with its campus, alumni, education, placement, extracurriculars or any other features. All the IIMs are equally good in all these aspects.

What makes IIM Calcutta different from them?

In reality, IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore welcome students only who have been toppers throughout their life. Their academic reports are flawless. Be it their 10th or 12th or Undergraduate. They have never seen failure in their lives.

But in the case of IIM Calcutta, it has both genius students with flawless reports and people who have great CAT scores but below average undergrad or 10th and 12th scores. IIM Calcutta welcomes a mixed crowd and this is what sets it apart from other IIMs.

At IIM Calcutta, you will find peers who have failed or been to the lowest level once. But they have climbed the ladder of success with determination. Studying alongside people with such qualities makes education much more than just learning your subjects. You grow as a person. You don’t find people here, you find profiles. A manager needs to have these qualities in order to excel.

All the IIMs are great but it’s only IIM Calcutta that welcomes a mixed crowd.

How do I go about choosing between JNU and DSE for MA Economics?

SR
Salini Roy Posted On : October 18th, 2021
M.A. Economics, Jawaharlal Nehru University (2018)

Both the courses are distinct from one another.

At DSE, they train you rigorously in mathematics. And this is an important part of your journey but that is about the only part DSE focuses on. Economic theory at DSE will give you an edge over a lot of other institutions and get your foot in the door inside a lot of big names in finance.

Now coming to JNU, they don’t give a lot of emphasis on Maths but they make sure you read a lot more than you will read at DSE. This means you build a well-rounded view of the world and how economies function. This is a good thing as it will help you very much in mainstream research and things like journalism where you need to know a lot of things.

Also, at JNU reading thoroughly is a part of the curriculum which is not the same in DSE. With the curriculum at JNU, you will discover different schools of thought and learn to think for yourself.

Overall, choosing JNU will be better.
