Without any second thoughts, choose BSc Data Science from IIT Madras. Upgrad course is just an additional course between you and your degree from IIT Madras.
Choosing BSc program from IIT Madras will offer many perks
Upgrad is suitable only for those who are working full-time and cannot pursue a full-time course. Else, BSc should be your first option. This course can be pursued full-time and gives enough time to prepare simultaneously for many things like the Civil services exam, and CAT exam or inculcating skills like drawing, painting, music, etc.
Ramjas is one of the best Science colleges in the country. Being a North campus it has its own benefits. A lot of events take place within the north campus which you will be aware of or be a part of if you take admission in any north campus college.
Ramjas in terms of reputation, crowd quality, and exposure is much better than ARSD. It has got an incredible faculty and equally great infrastructure. It is one of the oldest colleges under DU hence has a lot of academic experience. If you seek a fulfilling college life, giving attention to both academics and extracurricular activities, Ramjas is the place for you.
There are a lot of societies and clubs in Ramjas, students get enough exposure to explore their skills and talents and enhance them. They are lenient with attendance and also lets students submit an ECA for serious reasons. It will give a proper balance between academics and extracurriculars, here you get to focus on both of them equally. For Physics Honours Ramjas will be the perfect choice.
One of my friends is currently doing her Bachelor's in Science, specifically in Applied Science and Statistics from NMIMS- Kharghar campus. She has given me some input which I will be sharing with you.
Frankly, everything so far has been excellent for her. She appreciates the syllabus and all that's taught. The syllabus covers all that one needs to know about Data Science and its basics. My friend is about to get into the 3rd semester after this Corona wave is over.
The basics that were covered in first year were:
For coding, she had: "C" language, DBMS, "R", SPSS, SCILAB and Python (from the second year of syllabus)
Actuarial Science and additional projects were added by the time she had reached her second year. You are seen as more experienced when you begin studying Actuarial Science. It is sufficient to cover all your basics that concern Data Science.
Along with a brilliant syllabus arrives a pretty hectic schedule. There are regular exams wherein you will only get a week for preparation. Not only this but there are presentations, assignments and projects to cover and submit before the deadline.
It is going to be a thrilling experience as all the knowledge and information will help you understand how to perform well under any circumstances with perfection.
It depends on what you are interested in and what career you want to pursue. My personal suggestion would be to make IIT Delhi your first preference.
First, if you are a civil services aspirant, get admission into IIT Delhi in any branch and prepare for UPSC through the various coaching institutes available.
If you are somehow not able to make it into IIT Delhi, then invest another year preparing for JEE and aim for a higher rank. Once you are able to make it into IIT Kanpur, again you need to work hard for one year to get a branch change into Civil. You will be competing with geniuses from CS and ME but keep yourself motivated. A CPI of 7+ will make it possible to get a branch change. Attend your classes regularly, complete your assignments on time and you are good to go.
Lastly, if you are unable to change your branch, go for pure sciences like Physics, Chemistry, BSBE, or Earth Science. Out of these Physics and chemistry have a heavy workload and it will be tough to cope with your batchmates. BSBE has pathetic placements. Another option is Earth Sciences which in my opinion is the best considering the light workload and job opportunities. The average CPI is lesser than other branches and most of its courses overlap with Civil Engineering. Basically, Earth Sciences is equivalent to Civil Engineering just without the Engineering element.
I have a few friends from University of Allahabad and according to them, the faculty at Allahabad University is amazing. Moreover, the Maths department is the biggest department in Allahabad University. The teachers are well-experienced and cooperative.
The faculty at Allahabad University is not only famous for Maths but also for Chemistry. And due to this reason, every year you get to see at least 2 to 3 students clear in research exams and further get selected in IITs for research.
You can consider University of Allahabad as a valid option for your B.Sc in Mathematics.
Based on the trends of last few years, Lady Brabourne College cutoff for Microbiology stays quite high, above 90%. Shortlisted candidates need to go through an interview, in order to get admission at LBC.
The cutoff criteria are similar for Scottish Church College as well. Admission to Scottish Church is based strictly on merit.
Admission to Ravenshaw University (RU) is done purely on a merit basis. Your scores in class 10+2 examinations will determine your selection.
First, fill-up the form and wait for the merit list. If you are selected in the first round, you will be needed to submit the documents with a demand draft of the amount mentioned.
If you are in the waiting list then also you will have to come to the college to submit the demand draft, showing your interest in taking admission. If you do not get selected, your draft will be returned.
The cut-off marks usually change, so nothing could be said for sure. To get some idea about it you can check the previous year's cut off marks in the admission brochure.
Ashoka University is a good private engineering college as it aims for outstanding placements and academics results, especially in computer engineering.
The fee structure for computer science is approximately 9.87 lac per annum. Ashoka University has the best CS faculty from all over India and the world. The professors have their educational backgrounds majorly from ISI and IISc Bangalore and other top-notch colleges.
Apart from a major in CS, students can also opt for a minor in CS or interdisciplinary majors and Entrepreneurship in CS and Mathematics. The university provides students with a good exposure along with guest lectures by well-known inventors or innovators relating to computer engineering. This is the process which is also followed by some good foreign engineering universities.
The placement structure for computer engineering students is also good. The university offers ample opportunities to intern and work with reputed organizations. The companies that visit Ashoka University for placements are Albright Stonebridge Group, AmbitionBox, Better Mortgage, Bloomberg Quint, Business Standard, Clix Capital, Deloitte, and many more. Yes, Ramjas College is a good option for Statistics (Hons.). It has one of the best faculties when it comes to Statistics. Also you will have a number of seniors who will help you with preparation by sharing previous question papers and even their first hand experience of the examinations.
If you want to secure a job opportunity after graduation with statistics then join the different societies to learn new skills and explore. At the end of your graduation, you will realize that you are a completely different person having a new set of skills. Your placements depend on how good your skills are. Learn about the course thoroughly and you will get many job offers from reputed companies like TCS, Tech Mahindra, etc. Students can also opt for higher studies, if their scores are good.
Below given table shows a comparison between the two of the best colleges under Delhi University to pursue B. Sc (Hons.) in Chemistry.
| ST. STEPHENS | HINDU | |

Academics:
According to previous year, the cut off for admission to Hindu college for B. Sc (hons.) in Chemistry was 96.66% and in St. Stephen's it was 92%. The faculty contingency in both the colleges is very well reputed, dedicated and felicitated having won many recognitions to their name. It is not justified to distinguish between the teachers as all are almost at par with academic qualifications, achievements but are restricted by curriculum and different teaching patterns. Both the colleges organize national conferences and workshops for the holistic development of the students and to gain industry exposure.
Placement Opportunities:
The key feature which sets Stephen's apart is that when it comes to applying abroad for higher studies or internships or fellowship programmes, a lot of graduates have had the opportunity to do so owing to the scholarships and collaborations with foreign universities like Oxford, Yale and Cambridge. It has a more disciplined and rigorous and calm aura about itself not being as actively a part of the very famous DU fests as compared to other colleges. There are many ongoing research projects funded by SERB and UGC. Top recruiters being Hetero drugs, Emami, Homi Bhaba Centre for Science Education, BCG etc. offering a median salary of around 9LPA.
In the Hindu college, the median salary package for B. Sc in Chemistry at offer was 5LPA and average placement rate was low as most of the graduates sought to opt for higher studies. The top recruiters were DE Shaw, KPMG, IndiaBulls amongst others. Organizations like Empower India, Philip Morris International, Outlook rolled out internship opportunities too.
