Which is the better college between Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College and ARSD College for a B.Sc. in Computer Science (Hons), mainly in terms of faculty and course-related infrastructure such as computer

PA
Praniti Arora Posted On : November 26th, 2021
B.Sc (H) Computer Science from Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Delhi University (2018)

It may not be right to compare the colleges under DU among each other. As most of them have similar curriculum and teaching techniques.

But if infrastructure is considered Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College (DDUC) is far better than other colleges under DU. As it is a newly established institution, the facilities provided are upgraded with the latest technology.

They also are known to have a very highly experienced faculty, some of them even having 20-30 years of teaching experience. DDUC is popular for its Science and Commerce streams.

Therefore if you wish to choose among DDUC and ARSD College for an Honours degree in Computer Science, it is suggested that you go for the former rather than the latter.

Which one is the best for a BSc in chemistry (hons) amongst: St. Xavier's, Presidency and Jadavpur University?

AB

The best choice for a BSc in Chemistry in my opinion would be Jadavpur University. This is one of the best universities in Kolkata second only to IISER in terms of quality of education offered. The chemistry department of JU specifically is the best among other science departments. It has the most learned and experienced faculty pool of around 36 full-time qualified professors. Its infrastructure is better than most colleges in Kolkata.

There is a downside to JU considering its high involvement in politics. However, individually you can refrain from being involved, which won’t affect your academics much. Nevertheless, as a science student, you will hardly get time to involve yourself in anything non-academic like politics.

St Xaviers College too is a decent choice followed by Presidency University. Next comes St Xavier's College. And then Presidency University.

While the general preference order would be JU>St Xaviers>Presidency University, the final decision will depend on your personal goals and inclinations.

I'm doing PCME in 11-12th grade with no economics background. Can I pursue economics honours from symbiosis or any other college for undergrad?

SV

Political Science Honors at Jadavpur University (2019)

Yes, you can undeniably pursue economics honors from any college, even if you didn’t have Economics in your 12th. The first semester in economics ug degree is dedicated to the basic and fundamental understanding of the subject, which is also taught in school. Thus, even if you have not studied the aspects of it in school, the college you are part of will certainly cover the topics you still have to know about.

But if you are planning to do a course in Economics, it will be better to make yourself familiar with the basic concept of the course. Pick up some books on Economics after you are done with your entrance examinations if you are planning on giving any. My friends with Economics degrees suggested the following books that you can begin with.

  • Introductory Microeconomics by Deepashree (taught in the 12th standard)
  • Introductory Macroeconomics by Deepashree (for the 12th standard again)
  • Principles of economics by Mankiw (this is taught in the college for the first semester or anytime during the first year)

These are to name a few. You can likewise add on more.

Should I take up math and computing at IIT Delhi, or B.Math at ISI Bengaluru?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : April 5th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

Whether you should opt for MnC at IIT Delhi or B.Math at ISI Bangalore depends on what you want from your graduation and your career prospects.

Academically both institutes are excellent and none is better than the other. So my answer entails the drastic difference in the curriculum and scope of the two programs.

Bachelor of Mathematics, ISI Bengaluru

This program has high-tech mathematical stuff and purely focuses on Mathematics. The Institute is smaller than IIT Delhi and ideal for those who have a single passion in life, Maths. The coursework consists of abstract algebra, analysis, probability theory, and so on. Additionally, it has compulsory courses in Statistics, Probability, and Physics as well. Although it offers some CS courses also, the program does not focus on Computer Science much.

Math and Computing (MnC), IIT Delhi

The curriculum of the MnC program is more inclined toward computer science than Mathematics. The program focuses more on applied mathematics, rather than pure mathematics. As a result, graduates from this course can start jobs earlier than those from ISI.

In a nutshell, if you are willing to go for higher education and research in mathematics, then ISI should be your goal. If you are a person interested in the practical application of concepts and want to eventually be employed in a company, then IIT Delhi is the best place for you.

Which college is better for a B.Sc in Computer Science the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College or Keshav Mahavidyalaya?

ST
Saikat Taneja Posted On : November 26th, 2021
studied at Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Delhi University (2016)

Both these colleges are off campus. They have been upgraded with all the modern facilities. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College (DDCU) is a bit better overall than Keshav Mahavidyalaya (KMV)

DDUC is comparatively older which gives it an edge over KMV when overall educational experience is considered. They have a much more experienced faculty. They offer sufficient classrooms and labs equipped with the latest technology for educational purposes.

If you prefer studying Computer Science, KMV will be the better option. They have an excellent faculty in this department. For other subjects it is better to rely on DDUC.

How is Hansraj College DU for an undergraduate course in Geology?

RO
Raj Oberoi Posted On : April 13th, 2023
Studied Commerce at Hansraj College,University of Delhi (2016)

If you are considering pursuing a degree in geology at Hansraj College, it's important to carefully evaluate your motivations for entering this field of study. Here are some key points to consider:

  • Geology can be a rewarding field for those who are passionate about the subject matter, but it may not be the best fit for everyone. Before enrolling in the program, take some time to reflect on your personal interests and career goals to ensure that geology is the right choice for you.
  • Geology may offer fewer job opportunities than some other fields, so it's important to be realistic about your prospects after graduation.
  • While some of the professors at Hansraj College are highly knowledgeable and skilled in their subject matter, the course structure may not be as strong in foundational subjects like physics and math. This could have implications for your ability to excel in more advanced courses or pursue certain career paths.
  • It's important to make an informed decision about your academic path rather than simply following the crowd or going with the flow. Consider factors like your personal interests, career goals, and the strengths and weaknesses of the program before committing to a course of study.

Pursuing a degree in geology at Hansraj College can be a good choice for those who are truly passionate about the subject matter and have a clear vision for their career path. However, it's important to carefully evaluate your motivations for entering this field and to be realistic about the job prospects and course offerings before making a decision.

Which course is better, an MSc. in finance from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management, Mumbai, or NMIMS, Mumbai or MSc. in financial engineering from IFMR, Chennai?

AK
Apoorva Katnik Posted On : March 14th, 2023
MBA from NMIMS,Mumbai

If you are considering pursuing a Master of Science (M Sc) degree from NMIMS, it is important to do some further research on the recognition of the degree. However, an MBA from their Mumbai campus can be a good option to consider.

On the other hand, IFMR offers only MBA and Ph.D. programs, so it is not possible to pursue an M.Sc from there. As for JBIMS, it is the most prestigious institution in Mumbai, but there have been some concerns raised about the accuracy of their placement salary data. Additionally, the selection process for their M Sc course is quite competitive, with only 30 seats available for the program and a large number of candidates competing for those spots.

Considering your interest in finance, it would be beneficial to aim for admission to a top-notch business school like XLRI, which is renowned for its finance program. Another option would be to gain experience in the industry and pursue a finance course such as CFA or FRM, which would make you eligible for admission to world-renowned business schools such as the Indian School of Business.
