Which is a better college to pursue an MBA, KJ Somaiya or UBS Chandigarh?

SG
Sachit Gupta Posted On : January 4th, 2021
MBA in Financial Services KJ Somaiya (2019)

For MBA, the brand name matters and is a very important factor to be considered while choosing the institute. UBS Chandigarh is not as well known as KJ Somaiya.

Deciding factors:

  • If you are a fresher without any experience or expectations then this fact doesn’t even matter as it will be the beginning of their long career.
  • One of the important decisions is choosing specialization - Finance, Marketing, Ops, HR, Data Science, or anything else. You should do research about the courses offered at both the colleges and choose the one that meets your expectations.
  • You should also ask yourself why you are doing an MBA and will it help your career.

Highlight:

Given below is a brief highlight of the MBA program at UBS Chandigarh and KJ Somaiya.

Details

UBS Chandigarh

KJ Somaiya

Average CTC

9.5 LPA

10.8 LPA

Fees

The decision depends on you. Do your research and choose the institute which will be best for you.

How good is KJ Somaiya PGDM Communications? And how good are the placements?

NM
Nikita Mehta Posted On : December 26th, 2022
Studied PGDM in International Business at K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR) (Graduated 2020)

Although all the courses offered at KJ Somaiya are equally good, its Marketing discipline is the most coveted one. Also there is no partiality during placement of students of various disciplines. Every student is allowed to sit for PPT and then for final interviews after selection.KJ Somaiya conducts a transparent and unbiased placement drive. Students from Finance, Marketing, Operations and HR get segregated during the initial selection process.

A number of companies visit the campus for placements. The placement committee makes sure that every year new companies also line up in addition to the many companies that visit every year. So I don’t think placements should be a concern for anyone getting into KJ Somaiya.

KJ Somaiys MBA in Operations Management isn’t worth pursuing if you have more than 39 months of experience. The career opportunities offered won’t do justice to your experience. It’s better if you look for better B-Schools. NITIE Mumbai can be a good option for you. You will be able to job opportunities according to your experience. NITIE Mumbai placements are great. According to the recent placement drive, the average CTC offered was INR 35.84 LPA.

AB

Lives in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

XAT or Xavier Aptitude Test is a national-level entrance exam conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur for admission to management programs offered by more than 150 B-schools across India, including SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), K J Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research, Institute of Management Technology Ghaziabad (IMT Ghaziabad), T A Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), and FORE School of Management.

Each of these B-schools has its own XAT cutoff score based on factors such as the number of applicants, the difficulty level of the exam, and the availability of seats. Generally, the XAT cutoff scores for these B-schools range between the 80 to 90 percentile.

It's important to note that while cutoff scores are an important factor in the admission process, they are not the only factor. Other factors, such as your academic background, work experience, extracurricular activities, and performance in other selection rounds, also play a crucial role in the admission process. So, it's always a good idea to aim for a high score in XAT and prepare well for other selection rounds to increase your chances of admission to the MBA program of your choice.

What should I go for, K J SIMSR full-time PGDM or IMT-Ghaziabad DCP?

AD
Anindita Dutta Posted On : April 16th, 2021
PGDM Finance, Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (2019)

In terms of the brand, you must go for IMT as K J SIMSR stands nowhere near to in comparison to IMT.

Other than the brand, the following are certainly other characters that make it very much necessary to make you think over the other options you have:

  • There lies a broad difference among those who completed their first year on the Ghaziabad campus and at Dubai Campus. As the exposure at Ghaziabad is way better related to Dubai Campus. You need to be very hard-working, great at networking as being at DCP campus, you will find networking becomes more important to land a good summer placement.
  • The second-year brings you a lot more opportunities to do networking, study with better companions, get exposure to far better resources and faculties compared to Dubai Campus. DCP is a way of opportunity for you to be in a group of such a premier B-school at the Ghaziabad campus.

Parameters

K J SIMR

IMT Ghaziabad

NIRF Ranking

54

37

Fees

INR 16.29 Lacs

INR 19.5 Lacs

Placement Percentage

100%

19.53%

Average CTC

INR 10.08 LPA

INR 14.12 LPA

  • Be ready to begin your A-game when you join the Ghaziabad campus. If things work out great and you are invariably aware of the above two points.
  • During your final placement season, opportunities are similar to those of that student who has spent their first two years at IMT Ghaziabad campus provided that in the second year, you complete a better crowd and your 10th, 12th, Graduation percentage are in good shape in order to increase your chances exponentially in the 2nd year when you join the campus.

Ultimately your decision lies in your hands. If u keep considering the brand value and the above aspects in your mind, then you must opt for IMT Ghaziabad DCP else if you want to play the safer game, then definitely, forget about these aspects, and go for KJSOM.

I have an interview scheduled at K J Somaiya. Can anybody help me on what things to prepare in detail?

KN
Kashish Nikumbh Posted On : September 6th, 2021
MBA from K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (2017)

As one of my friends also has gone through the same situation, I might be able to provide you with some tips that could be useful to you.

  • Expect nothing out of the ordinary that will catch you off guard.
  • The interview process is straightforward and very conventional.
  • There's no need to be anxious if you have good reasons for what you've written on your CV and SOP.
  • Be meticulous with your SOP and CV, as most of the questions to be raised would be sourced from what’s written in your CV and SOP.
  • Remember, your desire to do an MBA should be convenient to the panel and they must know exactly why you want to get an MBA degree.

In most cases, case-based GD is offered, therefore XAT decision-making questions can be useful during preparation. If you have any prior work experience, you should expect some questions from that section as well. Hence be prepared in that way to walk through this interview round.
