Which is better, VIT CS or NIT Surathkal CS?
Even though I am a CSE student at VIT Vellore, I would like to point out some weaknesses of my institution-
- The annual intake for all the branches, all four categories, is quite high at VIT Vellore. It is close to 5000 students each year. In the CSE branch alone, close to 1300 students are admitted annually (including Bioinformatics).
- Placements seem very high, but in reality, large scale mass recruitments by IT firms like Cognizant, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, etc. inflate the placement figures.
- The course fee at VIT is comparatively higher. It is around 1.95 Lakhs per year. This too if you are a category 1 (merit) student. Around 1 Lakh per year is added if you belong to the other three categories.
- Advanced Placement Training sessions have been introduced for students. But these sessions aren’t really helpful in practicality. In fact 6 hours of each weekend is spent in these sessions.
- Those with a good CGPA get good hostel rooms in good blocks. Those who fail to score high grades are given older blocks.
- The hostel rules are strict. This is especially true when you have to get a leave sanctioned from your faculty advisor or proctor.
NIT Surathkal, on the other hand, is a government college. It has an intake of around 800 students in all the branches, with 120 students in CSE. The institution offers top notch placements. There are no mass hirings. The course fee falls between 1.38 to 1.57 Lakhs per year. College rules are much more flexible.
Thus, based on these observations, I would suggest you take admissions in NIT Surathkal for your CSE program.
How great are the professors in CSE Department in IIT Bombay?
One of my friends had a great experience interacting with a brilliant CSE professor at IIT Bombay, Dr. D.B. Phatak.
He called the professor who gladly invited him over to his office. My friend was impressed as such a busy person who is 65 years of age was ready to meet him without hesitation. He reached his office and was welcomed almost as if the professor was expecting him for the past few weeks. He was simultaneously attending calls and yet managed to attend to my friend happily. Talking to him did not look like one is talking to a Padamdhee awarded such a humble attitude. He told my friend his youth stories and discussed a number of topics. In the end, my friend couldn’t resist asking what kind of person gets successful like him. To this, the professor replied,“ I will tell you an anecdote. I am chairman of a certain bank body where we conduct elections for nominating a board member. Once we had elections where each person got some 3–5 votes and generally one of those votes people gave to themselves. In that particular election, there was only one lady who has ethically and honestly given all votes to other fellow members and in the end, she lost the election by one vote only. Do you know who that lady is today? She is chairman of SBI. Your ethics make you great, not the degrees, money, and positions.”
The gist of the interaction was that one can become successful irrespective of his position and credentials. What matters is how humble your stay even after being extremely successful.
Which should I choose IIEST Shibpur or Jadavpur University for CSE?
IIEST Shibpur and Jadavpur University both are quite reputed universities. Over the past few years, the former has improved a lot too. However, choosing JU for your CSE degree will be better. Also, you should note that IIEST offers integrated M.Tech courses.
Although IIEST Shibpur is quite reputed, its placement record is not comparable to that of JU. In the recent placement drive at JU, the placement average was 100%. The average CTC offered at the campus was 19 LPA. Apart from the placement, there are also great research opportunities at JU.
The transformation of IIEST from BESU, has been quite effective. With time, IIEST can even become better than JU. However, as of now, JU is the better alternative.
Which is best for CS out of NSIT, DTU, and BITS Pilani?
DTU and NSIT have a number of reservation policies like caste, Delhi quota, and numerous sub-quotas, so the quality of the crowd is average. Anyone who gets to choose BITS Pilani instead will never choose DTU and NSIT. BITS Pilani accepts admission solely on the basis of merit and thus the crowd quality is superior to that of DTU. Sparing the locational factor, BITS has an upper hand in every aspect. Moreover, it’s the only institute to enjoy global recognition apart from IITs.
Specifically talking about CS, the number of Google Summer of Code selections from there is a testament to the credibility of the CS branch here. If you look at the bigger picture and compromise on the location, you will be gaining much more than Delhites.
I didn't study computer science in 11th and 12th grade, but now I wish to pursue computer science at the Manipal Institute of Technology. Is it a good decision to do so?
Even I began programming at Manipal Institute of Technology itself. I didn’t opt for Computer Science during 11th and 12th.
In the first few months, you’ll find a gap between those who can’t code and those who already can. The first few lectures will be quite difficult to understand. During your three hour lab sessions, you’ll struggle to complete the assigned programs on time. On the other hand, there will be students who will complete the same task much faster. You might even score less in the first few tests.
Now after all this, you’ll feel disheartened and approach people for help. Many will misguide you towards a branch change. This is when you have to choose- either you run away or face your fears. You’ll have to work hard and learn programming.
Do plenty of reading, approach your faculty with doubts, and seek help from friends who know programming. Manipal provides a good learning environment. It’s just that you’ll have to exhibit a lot of patience and hard work.
Pursuing my CSE from Manipal was the best decision I made. If you follow my advice, by the time you graduate, you’ll be at par with the rest of your batch.
How is the placement in CSE at IIT Guwahati?
Around 90% of students at IIT Guwahati are successfully placed and the placements are considered to be the best. It's important to note that the remaining students who weren't placed actually opted for higher education in other reputed universities. Top recruiters like Uber, Samsung, Microsoft, Google, and JP Morgan visit the university with the highest package offered by Uber being INR 2.2 Crore and the lowest package being INR 15 LPA. The average salary package for Computer Science Engineering (CSE) is INR 29 LPA. In terms of internships, students were offered INR 2 lacs per month by companies such as Uber and Microsoft. A majority of students tend to choose careers in software development and web development.
In 2022, the highest packages have been offered by Microsoft and Google. Around 90-92% of students secured excellent internships and every student is satisfied with their internship experience. Companies visit the campus during the third year, providing students with ample opportunities to pursue their career aspirations.
Why is IIT Roorkee not considered good for computer science?
IIT Roorkee is a renowned institution for engineering and technology, but its reputation for CS may not be as strong as other institutions. This is mainly due to a lack of resources, a limited number of faculty members with expertise in computer science, or a lack of emphasis on computer science. Here are a few pointers regarding the CS department of IIT Roorkee
- The peer group consists of top rankers and there is intense competition as almost everyone is a genius
- IIT Roorkee’s CS department is understaffed with limited faculty whose area of expertise is CS. Also, the existing professors and their pedagogy are not unique in any way.
- Although the computer center is decent, the lab facilities are very poor and need to be taken care of
It’s better you lower your expectations before joining the CS department of IIT Roorkee, especially in terms of research. The professors here have limited knowledge and you won’t find them very helpful. You will have to develop your interest and pursue them individually. You will have to even learn coding yourself as most professors are unaware of the basic know-how. Competitions like ICPC, and GSOC are not supported by the Management and you will have to build and team yourself and work on it.
The placements are pretty good with most top companies visiting the campus with good packages. However, you are given the least assistance in placements and will have to prepare everything yourself. Ultimately you will depend most on your peers for everything.
Is CSE at Manipal university Jaipur worth it?
Manipal University Jaipur is a good option for CSE. It offers good infrastructure for coding. The coding culture on campus is pretty active and it’s improving. MUJ organized many workshops and seminars to give students hands-on coding experience.
Manipal University Jaipur Placement for CSE is great. Students of CSE usually get an average CTC of around INR 6.5 LPA. While the highest CTC goes up to INR 42 LPA. Dell, Amazon, Capgemini, etc. are the major recruiters that take part in the placement frequently. MUJ has an incubation center - Atal Incubation Center for providing support to startups and budding entrepreneurs.
Which one should I choose for a CSE, NIT Allahabad or IIIT-A?
If you are seeking exceptional placement opportunities with the highest and average packages offered during IIT Allahabad BTech placements 2022 being INR 125 LPA and INR 30.68 LPA, respectively, and IIIT Allahabad PG (MTech / MBA) placements 2022 being INR 60.5 LPA and INR 19.57 LPA, respectively, IIIT Allahabad IT branch is the perfect choice for you. In addition, media reports suggest that the highest package offered during IIIT Allahabad MTech placements 2022 stood at INR 1.4 crore per annum from Google.
If you value a great coding culture, IIIT Allahabad IT branch is an excellent option as well. Moreover, the college has a supportive alumni network, which can be beneficial to students.
The infrastructure at IIIT Allahabad IT branch is top-notch, with facilities such as air-conditioned classrooms, a temperature-controlled swimming pool, a basketball court, and a large playground. These amenities can contribute to a more comfortable and productive learning environment.
Considering all these factors, without a doubt, joining the IIIT Allahabad IT branch would be an excellent decision for anyone looking for impeccable placement opportunities, a great coding culture, a supportive alumni network, and excellent infrastructure.
Is Bits Hyderabad CSE good and worth joining?
For CSE, BITS Hyderabad stands behind BITS Pilani and BITS Goa. Here are some reasons for the same-
- Environment- Being the newest among all three, BITS Hyderabad lacks in terms of peer and senior-junior interaction.
- Faculty- The department faculty of BITS Hyderabad and BITS Goa are comparable, but that of BITS Pilani stands superior for sure.
- Individual opportunities- In this respect, the CS departments of all three campuses treat their students equally, and everyone is given equal opportunities.
But on a national level, the CS department of BITS Hyderabad is quite good. Moreover, the college location is very suitable for internship and off campus placement opportunities.
