What are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at Coimbatore Institute of Technology?

AS
Avik Sarkar Posted On : January 27th, 2021
B.E. Computer Science Engineering, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India (2020)

One of my friends graduated from this college in 2020 and following are his recommendations to the juniors as per his recent experience.

Networking

  • You need to build a good network of friends. It will help you in your career development.
  • Try to remain in contact with students who are good in academics. You do not have to be perfect but maintain a healthy circle around you.
  • You shouldn’t deprive yourself of having fun, but don’t lose your main focus.

Hostel Life

  • The hostel life of CIT will provide you with a memorable stay.
  • CIT Alumni can survive in any worst situation as they survived their stay in the hostel.
  • You must accept your living environment with a positive and happy attitude.
  • There are four boys hostels in CIT- Palani Hostel, Malai hostel, Thirumalai Hostel and Vellingiri hostel. You will experience everything in these hostels during your course.

Food at Mess

  • Breakfast and Lunch will be fine but dinner is the worst. You might not like it but you will get used to it.
  • There are many restaurants around the college campus as a backup. One among them is Lakshmi Mess is quite popular among students.

Water Facility

  • Drinking water facilities in the hostel might get out of order sometimes. If you face such issues simply ask your hostel warden to get it fixed.
  • You can also buy water cans temporarily or use boiled water.

Academics

First Year

  • Your first and second semester will not be tougher. Maintain a good CGPA from the first semester itself. 8 CGPA is good in my opinion.
  • Due to the strict curriculum, you will not get enough chances to contact your seniors.
  • You will be more involved in exploring and understanding your department.

Second Year

  • You will feel the course load during semester 3. But don't lose hope.
  • Be prepared to face laboratory projects and assignments. Don't feel too much pressure, just set your time accordingly and learn from it.

Till semester 4 you will know everything about your department and college. Try to participate in different activities as much as you can.

Third-year

  • Semester 5 syllabus is more advanced than your previous semesters. Make use of it, as it is the first step towards your career.
  • Apart from your academics, participate in workshops and conferences and make yourself ready for the industry. Work on your aptitude and interview skills.

Final Year

The sixth and final semester is very important, where the placement scenario comes from. Don’t worry if your friends get placed, just work on your aptitude and interview skills, and apply to several companies.

Do not worry much about the first year, just follow the above rules and enjoy your college life.

Can an average student score good in GMAT for applying to ISB Hyderabad?

SS
Shreya Sharma Posted On : March 2nd, 2021
Studied MBA in Finance from Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (2014)

In my opinion, in order to prepare for the GMAT, you should study the official guide thoroughly- even the answers that you got right. You must be aware that GMAT has two main sections: Quantitative and Verbal.

Here are some tips to study both sections:

Verbal:

  • This is usually the trickier section, especially if English is not your first language. You can practice this section using the Manhattan English guide. This will test your grammar as well as sentence structure and meaning.
  • It is suggested to buy the official verbal guide by GMAC. You should read a lot too. Papers like New Yorker and New York Times should help.

Quantitative:

  • The topics covered in Quantitative for GMAT are quite easy compared to CBSE standards. However, you must not let your guards down.
  • Complete the guide and if you’re average with Mathematics that should suffice. You can practice the manhattan books additionally if you would like.

Getting into ISB:

  • This is no cakewalk – even if you get a really decent GMAT score. You must focus on work experience. It can include any internships or start-ups you may have worked with.
  • Did you do any extra-curricular activities? Or did you have a personal struggle? All this would help and be a conversation starter and show that you have something to offer in the program.

As far as essays are concerned, this is one place you can definitely impress the admissions committee. You may have an average profile but through your essay, you can show that you can definitely fit well into the program and you have something unique to contribute. Show that you are committed to your reasons for doing an MBA.

Lastly, it is quite difficult to answer as to what profile the school is looking for. You cannot control the demands that the market has. If the demand for marketing consultants is high, then chances are that someone with a good marketing background could get in.

Just make sure that you have done enough to make up for your scores if you consider them to be weak. Other than this, ensure you do well on your GMAT.

What is your review of Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE) (Hyderabad)?

MS
Mayukh Saha Posted On : April 13th, 2021
MBA Operations Management & Marketing, Institute of Public Enterprise (2016)

Institute of Public Enterprise is one of the top institutes in Telangana for management studies. ROI is pretty decent though the average package offered is not that appealing. Let us consider a few factors to decide how good PIE actually is.

  • Faculty: Most of the professors hold PhDs and are good at what they do. They are highly qualified and experienced. Few in the lot are average. Each branch has at least one or two amazing professors who make leading fun.
  • Curriculum: Curriculum is well balanced and focuses on skillful learning. It is flexible enough to give you ample time for internships. Coursework is framed in such a way as to prepare you for the industrial and corporate world.
  • Campus: The new campus located at Shamirpet has an amazing infrastructure. Libraries are well stocked with the latest books of international standard. Labs are air-conditioned. The campus is peaceful and pleasant with a perfect ambiance to study. There are many campus events conducted but the planning and execution can surely be improvised.

Placements: The placement statistics of the institute are decent. Placement depends on the quality of the students.

Particulars

IPE Hyderabad (2020 batch)

Total number of students placed

400

Highest CTC offered

20.84 LPA

Average CTC offered

6.1 LPA

Placement rate

95%

To conclude, IPE Hyderabad is an amazing institute that gives you a wide range of connections in the industry. Teaching quality and infrastructure is amazing but there is room for improvement when it comes to placement.

What are the actual fees of Heritage Institute of Technology?

PM
Pratyasha Mishra Posted On : September 22nd, 2021
B.Tech from Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata

The fee structure for B.Tech students of Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata is given below for your reference.

  • Tuition fee (per semester) – INR 44,000 (1st and 2nd semester), INR 45,100 (3rd and 4th semester), INR 46,200 (5th and 6th semester), and INR 47,300 (7th and 8th semester)
  • Admission fee (one-time fee) – INR 5,000
  • Library fee (one-time fee) – INR 6,000
  • Students’ welfare and sports & games fee (one-time fee) – INR 4,000
  • Caution deposit (one-time fee and refundable) – INR 10,000
  • University students’ development fee (INR 500 paid yearly to MAKAUT) – INR 2,200 (one-time fee)
  • Admission kit (one-time fee) – INR 1,000

Thus the total fee amounts to INR 72,200 when you take admission. Since you would have paid INR 20,000 during counseling, you need to pay an additional amount of INR 52,200 after taking the admission. There is a tuition fee waiver scheme implemented by the college according to which you need not pay the tuition fee. In that case, the fee is INR 28,200 and thus you will need to pay only INR 8,200 after taking admission.

The hostel fee is an additional INR 4,500 per month including the mess if you want to take this facility.

What is better: PGPM at IIM Trichy or Great lakes Institute of Management, Chennai?

PT
Pragya Tripathi Posted On : January 21st, 2023
Studied at Great Lakes Institute of Management (India)

IIM Trichy may be a good choice if you value the brand value of IIMs. However, Great Lakes Institute of Management (GL) outperforms IIM Trichy in several areas:

  1. The average CTC at GL is INR 17.86 LPA, while at IIM Trichy it is INR 17.01 LPA. However, the one-year program at GL allows students to enter the job market faster, mitigating the difference in CTC. In addition, the batch size at GL is larger and the highest CTC offered is higher than that at IIM Trichy every year.
  2. GL has a higher quality faculty compared to IIM Trichy and can only be compared to the top 5 institutes in India in terms of faculty.
  3. GL has a larger alumni base.
  4. Some companies, such as TCS, offer higher tier profiles to students at GL compared to those at IIM Trichy. Both institutes have a focus on IT placements, making this comparison significant.
  5. GL is recognized by AMBA, one of the three largest business school accreditation organizations, and is also a GMAT preferred school.
  6. The quality of students at GL is on par with IIM Trichy. The average CAT/XAT score at GL is 94%ile, with a cut-off around 90. The average percentile is likely to be higher than IIM Trichy as the cut-offs for reserved categories at IIMs are lower.

There are numerous comparisons where GL outperforms IIM Trichy. However, other B-schools such as JBIMS, MDI Gurgaon, and IIFT Delhi may also be considered over new IIMs.

Does NIT Rourkela have good girl's hostel rooms?

SB
Sriparna Banerjee Posted On : August 17th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Rourkela

The two girls' hostels available at NIT Rourkela are C.V.Raman Hall of Residence and K.M.Shaw Hall of Residence. During your admission into NIT Rourkela, you will be allotted one of these two hostels.

C.V. Raman Hall of Residence-

  1. It has four blocks- A,B,C and D with single seater rooms. These rooms have a LAN port, two tables, and shelves where you can keep your belongings.
  2. The rooms are bright and airy with curtains.
  3. The problem is that because of the high admission rate to NIT Rourkela and the lack of rooms for so many students, two students share a single room with one bed for each.
  4. The washrooms and mirrors are clean. You will get a shoe stand near your room. The third floor has a wide and nice terrace. The corridors are spacious.
  5. The mess food varies with the caterer who provides the service at the time.
  6. Postgraduate students share rooms during the first year. In the second year, they are allotted single rooms.

Kiran Majumdar Shaw Hall of Residence-

  1. It also consists of 4 blocks. Two blocks have single seater rooms, while two have 3 seater rooms. The rooms are very spacious. You get shelves for your books and cupboards for your clothes.
  2. It is smaller than C.V. Raman Hall but has a better mess.
  3. P.G. students get a 3 seater room during their first year and a single seater in their second year.

The girls hostels at NIT Rourkela are not the best, however, they are quite decent. The best part is that you will enjoy your time over there and make endless memories.
