studies Computer Science at Gautam Buddha University (2023)

There are a total of 19 hostels, 13 for boys and 6 for girls in Gautam Buddha University (GBU). All hostels have single occupancy rooms with an attached balcony. The room consists of a bed, table, chair, almirah and a cupboard. Rooms are well furnished with proper lights and a fan.

There are approximately 1 washroom per 10 rooms. Each washroom consists of an Indian and a western style toilet with 2–3 bathing rooms. The condition of the washroom is good as they are regularly cleaned.

The internet speed here is quite good. It varies from 5–6 mbps with minor fluctuations when the speed decreases. All social networking sites except google plus are blocked here. You can access the internet through LAN in the hostel and WiFi in departments but only through laptops.

There is no such curfew here but the girls hostel timings are till 6:30-7 in summers and 5:30–6 in winters. The boys hostels have 11 PM as their closing time; they could hang about till 11 PM inside the campus.

Monika Mridul, Posted On : November 17th, 2021
MBBS from Midnapore Medical College (2020)

One of my friends studied at Midnapore Medical College (MMC). According to him, every college has its pros and cons, similarly, MMC also has its pros and cons.

Pros:

  • Midnapore Medical College is located in Midnapore. Multiple trains, both local and express are available for transportation.
  • The hostels are huge and have common rooms, canteen, and mess.
  • The college is big and spacious, most of the lecture theatres and laboratories are air-conditioned.
  • The auditorium is huge.
  • The faculty and staff members are good.
  • Proper practicals are held in the college and hospital throughout the year.
  • The Library is big and has numerous books for all subjects.

Cons:

  • The hostels are not maintained regularly.
  • The food options for vegetarian people is a problem that needs to be checked.
  • Accommodation for interns is a huge problem.
  • The library hours given are short.
  • The lecture theatres do not have microphones. It is often difficult to hear the professor in class.
  • The lab facilities are not updated.

It is a government college in West Bengal. Many students have claimed that medical colleges in West Bengal provide good exposure and academics. So, if you can bear with the flaws, it is a good college overall.

I got admission into metallurgical and materials engineering at NIT Warangal. What would be the future if I join there?

KS
Kalyan Shastri Posted On : August 18th, 2023
Lives in Warangal

I have a friend who completed his BTech in Metallurgical and Material Engineering from NIT Warangal last year. According to him, the institute and the branch offer a plethora of academic and job opportunities during and after the course.

The department provides ample opportunities to those who are genuinely interested in the branch or the subject. Passionate students receive great help from the faculty but you need to be self-motivated to avail the resources.

Here are a few future prospects for a Metallurgy and Material Engineering student of NIT Warangal

  • You can pursue a career in research if you are a research enthusiast and bagging fat packages is not your goal.
  • The placement opportunities are a bit limited given its average scenario. The highest CTC stood at INR 25 LPA while the average package recorded this year stood at INR 13 LPA

Today, the alumni of this department are pursuing successful careers so I feel in the long run you will be able to benefit from this too. So go for this branch!

What is the cutoff for IIM Kashipur?

VS
Vihaan Sharma Posted On : January 13th, 2023
PGP in Management from Indian Institute of Management Kashipur (Graduated 2019)

Admission requirements for IIM Kashipur have been relaxed for 2023. Only candidates who score higher than the minimum cut-offs in the CAT 2022 sectional percentile ranks, and overall percentile rank, and have a positive (greater than zero) raw score in all CAT-2022 sections are considered for shortlisting.

The table below shows the minimum performance required for candidates to be considered for the PI and WAT. Obtaining the cut-off percentile in the CAT, on the other hand, is a necessary but not sufficient condition for being shortlisted by IIM Kashipur.

CATEGORY IIM Kashipur cut off for Section-1 VARC IIM Kashipur cut off for Section-2 DILR IIM Kashipur cut off for Section-3 Quant IIM Kashipur cut off - Overall CAT 2022 Percentile
General 70 70 70 90
EWS 40 40 40 70
NC-OBC 45 45 45 74
SC 35 35 35 54
ST 25 25 32.5 40
DAP 25 25 32.5 40

For the class of 2023–25, the actual cut-off percentiles might be higher. The number of applicants called for the PI and WAT in each category will be determined by IIM Kashipur, and the cutoff percentiles may also change as a result.

From where B.Tech is better? Thapar, Patiala or NIT Kurukshetra?

MA
Madhav Aneja Posted On : September 1st, 2023
Lived in Chandigarh, India

There are several factors that you need to consider while making a choice.

NIT Kurukshetra is definitely much more economical than Thapar. There was a time when Thapar was superior to NIT Kurukshetra. But with time, things have changed a lot for both the colleges.

At NIT Kurukshetra, the teaching quality varies with departments. Most professors are very learned and supportive. The professors of ECE department are quite learned. However, they are also very strict with their students. The placements are good at both. You can check the placement scenario at Thapar and NIT Kurukshetra

NIT Kurukshetra and Thapar are both good colleges and have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Among JADAVPUR University, ST XAVIER'S AND CALCUTTA University, which is best to pursue B. Sc. in mathematics Honors?

PP
Pablo Patranabis Posted On : January 11th, 2021
M.A Comparative Literature & Latin American Literature, Jadavpur University (2014)

Among the three mentioned universities, Jadavpur University is the best to pursue BSc in mathematics Honours without any doubt. The classes are assured regularly and rigorous for those who desire to have a future in mathematics; there should be no doubt in selecting JU.

Comparison: (Winning Institution - Jadavpur University)

  • St. Xaviers became a university recently. A BSc degree from JU holds more value than a bachelor’s degree from St. Xaviers.
  • Jadavpur University was ranked 196th in Asia by The World University Ranking 2020.
  • The faculty at JU is top-notch. The syllabus adopted by JU is of advantage if you want to pursue higher studies after your degree. You will have better exposure at Jadavpur through regular seminars. Attending seminars delivered by guest faculty from distinguished National institutes, and your seniors pursuing masters and Ph.D. will make an immense difference.
  • If you are choosing St. Xaviers because of the campus, you should visit the Jadavpur University campus.
  • The classes are regular, and JU follows a rigorous pedagogy. The political environment people talk about is quite exaggerated. If you don't get involved in campus politics, it is never going to bother you.

Jadavpur University contributes much more than just a degree that gives you quality education, which is not restricted to classroom learning. They make sure the students turn into the person they can be and gives them the confidence that no other college in Kolkata does.

Which is better for a person getting JEE rank greater than 3500: Get brand name of IIT without top-notch branch or join NITs/DCE/NSIT with CS/EE?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 23rd, 2023
lives in New Delhi

If your rank is more than 1000, you’ll probably not get CS/ EE in any good IIT. But if you still wish for an IIT tag, I would recommend you go for a more relaxed branch. This means, picking the branch with the lowest closing rank. I am saying this because apart from the CS/EE/Mathematics group, all the branches come under the category of “others”. Unfortunately, all these “other” branches are equally placed.

  • The coursework, curriculum, and labs are very bland, boring, and outdated. With these branches, a good CGPA and extracurriculars will be the saving grace for your resume.
  • A lower branch will allow you to secure good grades more easily and you will get time to pursue extracurriculars.
  • By doing courses on Coursera and Udacity and making open-source contributions, you can become skilled and learn in coding/programming. Through various online platforms, you can get in touch with software companies in the valley.

If you are passionate about a field, be it Mechanical or Chemical, definitely go for it. With a passion for your field, you will secure a good core job or can even plan your Phd. in that domain. I would also recommend you check the integrated MSc. courses in Mathematics/Statistics/Physics. They might be a better and more beneficial choice.

As far as NSIT/DCE/NITs are concerned, I would recommend you talk to some seniors from the CSE/EE branch to get a better idea. Otherwise, go for a lower branch in the IITs if you do not get a “top notch” branch at them.
