I'm a student of Industrial Engineering at IIT KGP. During orientation seminars conducted by the department, I learned that it's all about optimizing processes. It's one of the most industry-synchronized courses out there. The same goes for Industrial & Production Engineering at IIT Delhi. I hope this perspective helps, even if it's not a direct answer to your question!

The process of waiting for end semester results at IIT Delhi can feel pretty long! Generally, we get our results for the B.Tech Chemical Engineering course around 3 weeks after finishing the exams. It’s like a countdown to see how well we did! Especially with placements coming up in the 7th semester, those results can make a big difference in our confidence levels.

IIT Delhi is a fantastic place to pursue a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering! The faculty here are really knowledgeable, and the curriculum covers all the essential subjects like Thermodynamics and Chemical Reaction Engineering. Plus, the placement stats are impressive; around 85% of us get placed, with big names like Amazon and Google hiring from our campus. The hostel life is decent too, and the mess menu has a good variety of dishes. Overall, I'm really happy with my choice!

At IIT Delhi, the fees for the B.Tech Electrical Engineering program involves a ?40,000 counseling fee, of which ?36,000 is part of the actual institute fees. Is doing B.Tech Material Science Engineering from IIT Delhi any good?

V
VelvetPerplex Posted On : April 3rd, 2026

I'll highlight the most important aspects of this branch while skipping the usual questions about IIT Delhi.

New Branch
B.Tech in Materials Science Engineering was launched in 2020. This means you'll have fewer seniors and a smaller alumni network in this field.

Curriculum
The curriculum is very modern and engaging. It's much better than the stereotype surrounding the discipline. The workload is manageable, allowing time for extracurricular activities. I’ll attach a picture of the courses (subjects) you’ll study. Ignore the codes; they represent the courses.

Opportunities

  • If you’re certain about your interest, then this branch is a great choice.
  • If not, don’t worry—you’ll have plenty of opportunities in various fields.
  • You can also explore your interests freely.
  • Core jobs can be tough to secure right after B.Tech, but pursuing a master’s opens up many doors.
  • If you want to be placed immediately after graduation, most visiting companies will consider you.
  • Further studies, research, competitive exams, entrepreneurship, and job opportunities will all be available.

Faculty
This could be a game-changer. The professors (at least the ones I’ve interacted with) are very supportive.

Is it worth doing an BE/B.Tech at IIT Delhi if my main goal is to land a high-paying job??

O
ObsidianMileage Posted On : April 3rd, 2026

It looks like you're asking about the likelihood of 100% placement for B.Tech students at IITs. The answer varies based on the IIT you choose and your specific branch of study. Generally, students in Computer Science, Electrical, or Mathematics and Computing (only available at IIT Delhi and IIT Guwahati) at the following IITs can expect fantastic job offers through campus placements, with an average package ranging from 16-20 lakhs:

  • IIT Bombay
  • IIT Delhi (including Mathematics and Computing)
  • IIT Madras
  • IIT Kanpur
  • IIT Kharagpur (including Electrical and Communication)

For Computer Science Engineering (CSE) students, all IITs, including the newer ones, can be added to this list. However, keep in mind that some students may choose to opt out of campus placements to pursue their passion for higher studies in technical or management fields.

Regardless, finding a job outside of campus placements is not an issue for IIT graduates.

How do the placements really compare between IIT Delhi B.Tech Mechanical Engineering and IIT Roorkee B.Tech Electronics & Communication Engineering?

P
PhantomPlumPudding Posted On : April 3rd, 2026

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering offers a comprehensive curriculum with abundant internship opportunities from top-tier companies like Google and Microsoft, making placements exceptionally strong, often above 85%. In contrast, while IIT Roorkee's B.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering has a solid reputation, the detailed insights into its placements are less clear, suggesting it may not quite match IIT Delhi's placement figures. Campus life at both institutes is vibrant, but IIT Delhi's diverse clubs and annual events like Rendezvous and Tryst add a unique flavor.

Personally, I'd lean towards IIT Delhi for its better placement prospects and overall student experience, especially if you aim for roles in top tech firms or wish to pursue higher studies abroad. If you're more inclined towards electronics and value a slightly different environment, IIT Roorkee is still an excellent choice.

I’m currently pursuing B.Tech in Textile Technology at IIT Delhi, and I’d say it’s definitely worth it. The course is structured well, and while the exams can be challenging, passing them isn’t too tough. We have fantastic placement records, with over 1,000 companies visiting the campus. The highest package last year was an astonishing 2.5 crore, and the average was about 20 lakh per annum. Plus, the campus has a great library and various clubs that keep things exciting. I’m planning to focus on civil services after graduation, but I know many of my peers are keen on corporate jobs, especially with the quality of internships we’re offered. Overall, I’m enjoying my time here!
