IIEST Shibpur offers a rich legacy and technical expertise, which makes it way superior as an institute when compared with IIIT Pune. But you need to decide whether you are interested in Mechanical or CS. Placement-wise too, IIEST Shibpur Mechanical is at par with other good engineering colleges in India.
As for placements, IIEST Mechanical is a better choice. But if you are planning for a post graduation after B.Tech, CS is a better branch for you. You must secure a rank of 250 or less, and get into top IITs for your M.Tech CS. Doing so will be beneficial for your career, and you can expect job offers from top brands like Google and Directi after your M.Tech.
On the other hand, an M.Tech in core branches like Mechanical won’t be as beneficial for your career. IIEST will offer you top notch faculties, and make your journey toward an MS/Phd. much easier, if you are planning for these degrees.
Based on what your future goals are, you can choose either of these two colleges/branches. But as a fact, core CS jobs are much better paying than core Mechanical ones.
I would suggest you go with VJTI CS as it will be a better choice in the long run. Computer science is in demand with the number of job openings increasing every day in the country. VJTI’s computer science program is famous in the country and is known for its curriculum with a dedicated emphasis on practical learning. The college has a dedicated faculty pool and most of them are also engaged in research. VJTI's location also benefits it to a thriving industry ecosystem, providing students with ample opportunities for research, internships and industry collaborations.
Placement is another factor in which VJTI is better according to me. In 2024, A total of 401 BTech students were placed with the highest package secured by a BTech Computer Science student which stood at INR 57 LPA. The average package for the BTech Computer Science branch was INR 20 LPA.
Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) was deemed to be a university approved by AICTE and MHRD. It is an autonomous institute. It is ranked 137 for BTech by NIRF 2020.
IIIT Manipur was established under the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) approved by the Govt. of India. They have a faculty strength of 13 members and 107 student strength. Each department has 110 seats.

CSE involves computer programming and networking, computation, algorithms, programming languages, program design, computer software and hardware. Computer Engineers can work as System Database Administrator, Computer Programmer, Engineering Support Specialist, Data Warehouse Analyst, System Designer, Software Developer, Software Engineer, Lecturer or Professor, Computer Operator and Research Analyst.
You should prioritize your interest in the subject and the culture of the institute, not the tagline. There is nothing to do with the tagline here. Try to figure out your interest and go ahead with it. Both institutes are highly reputed in India and are excellent at academics, infrastructure, and faculties.
So, choose the institute based on your preferences.
The CSE faculty of SVNIT might be a little better, but apart from that, NIT Surathkal is superior in every aspect.
The IT department of NIT Surathkal boasts of top notch lab infrastructure, and up-to-date curriculum for B.Techs. It focuses on project based learning. This means that every course has a practical component. A lot of work is expected from the students, and the time given for these assignments and projects is limited. This allows for quick learning, but it also demands a lot of hardwork from the students’ side. Even in terms of placement, B.Tech IT at NITK is way ahead.
Thus, I would recommend you opt for IT at NITK over CSE at SVNIT.
IET is ranked #1 among all the ATKU 600+ engineering colleges, whereasMNNIT Allahabad was ranked #48th by NIRF for B.Tech courses. The placement rate of CSE branch is higher as compared to other subjects in IET. Generally the recruiting companies for CSE and ECE branches are almost similar. The only difference lies in the institution, teaching staff and the candidate’s performance. Both the institutions have qualified faculties. Both of them are approved by AICTE.

IET Lucknow:
MNNIT Allahabad:
Placements
Some of the on-campus facilities of IET Lucknow are library, gym, hostel and bank. Some of the on-campus facilities in MNNIT Allahabad are a stationery shop, generator, student club, hostel (geyser, air cooler, refrigerator, water cooler, washing machine), PCO, 24/7 canteen, etc. Getting into IET Lucknow is difficult, as their cut-offs are really high. But the companies recruiting are not so good. Choosing ECE over CSE will give you the advantage of sitting in placements of both the courses. The rest all lies in the hands of the candidate and their interest. They can compare all the information available and then decide which is better for them.
The computer science branch at ITM Gwalior has a good reputation and students can expect to attain well-balanced careers after completing their CSE program. Potential applicants can consider aspects like placements, research areas, infrastructure as well as MOUs and major recruiters for students from the department. These aspects are discussed further in the points listed below:
Thus, students planning to take CSE at ITM University can rest assured that the overall development of their career will take place.
CSE is one of the trending and evergreen programs with huge demand. However, IIEST and VIT both offer excellent career opportunities in CSE. The ranking of the IIEST is 19 by NIF in the engineering category. Whereas, VIT has ranked in 18th position by NIRF. Here is more about each college in detail.
IIEST, Shibpur-
Admissions & fee:
The college accepts students based on the intermediate and JEE Main performance. Students should at least score 50% in 10+2. In 2019 the JEE Main closing cut-off for CSE was 4978-9379.
The college has 60 seats for the CSE program.
The first year fee at the campus is about 1.37 lakhs. However, students can avail of several scholarships during their academic years.
Placements:
The minimum and maximum salary of the students is 39.12 LPA and 9 LPA respectively.
The total number of offers in CSE from top companies is 82. Out of which, 51 students are placed in the top companies.
The companies visiting the campus are Accenture, BHEL, Google, Microsoft, Deloitte, Foster Wheeler, Odessa Technologies, Infosys, Hindustan Motors, Indian Navy, etc.
VIT-
Admissions:
The campus accepts students based on the VITEEE and intermediate scores. The minimum cut-off ranking of the VITEEE is 15,000.
The total seats in CSE are 722 with a fee of 1.98 lakhs. Like IIEST, VIT students can also avail of several scholarships.
Placements:
The highest and average salary of the students is 41.60 LPA and 6.05 LPA respectively.
The VIT has the highest record in placement rates and offers. The college received over 8000 offers in 2016. Recently, it got over 7000 offers.
The companies visiting the campus are Wipro, TCS, Intel, Infosys, Cognizant, Udaan, Accenture, Bank of America, etc.
This is all about the CSE at both institutions. As for which institute will be better, it all depends on the individual choice based on several factors as mentioned above. So, choose the college that best suits you based on your preferences.
The Colleges under Makaut are much better than Aliah University in all respects. They have a better curriculum, experienced faculty and provide students with the proper exposure and opportunities required to build their career.
If you have a rank around 10,000 in WBJEE, then you can opt for colleges like Techno India, IEM, Heritage Institute of Technology, Meghnad Shah, Netaji, etc.
But if your rank is enough to qualify for these colleges, then you can go for Aliah University. The placements here are not up to the mark but if you work hard you can sit for off-campus placements and secure a job via that.
The answer entails my unbiased opinion on Computer Science Engineering at NMIMS Mumbai.
Eventually, it’s you who decided what to and how much to make out of a course from the institute. Your decisions on how to study, divide your time, and include extracurricular activities are what determine the value of the course you are pursuing.
