What should I choose between Sydenham PGDBM and K J Somaiya MMS?

SP
Samiksha Panday Posted On : September 8th, 2021
PGADM in Operations Management, Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (2019)

Having known some students of both these colleges, I can say that both the colleges are really good in terms of infrastructure, culture, and faculties. There are of course some differences too and for that let me share with you a few details.

  • K J Somaiya has better infrastructure and the campus is located at the heart of the city. SIMSREE doesn't have such a big infrastructure.
  • SIMSREE has a better ROI than K J Somaiya.
  • Placement usually depends on your profile and how you perform in your management education & certainly performance in interviews.
  • Professors, peers both are good in both colleges.
  • At SIMSREE, the finance course is much better as there are several guest lecturers visiting from JBIMS.
  • Both SIMSREE and K J Somaiya’s program in MMS is Mumbai University affiliated. Its degree is acceptable for several government jobs as well.
Categories MMS at SIMSREE MMS at K J Somaiya
Course Fee 1.36 lakh 3.24 lakh
Highest CTC 20 LPA -
Average CTC 12 LPA 8-9 LPA
Recruiting Companies American Express, Barclays, ITC, KPMG, etc. Amazon, HUL, Deutsche Bank, Wipro, etc.

It must be noted that PGDBM is not offered at SIMSREE rather the institute also offers MMS in affiliation with Mumbai University.

Also, while choosing between MMS at Sydenham and K J Somaiya, it is suggested that you talk to alumni of both colleges, which would definitely give you a clear idea.

Will I get into SIMSREE MMS in the 99.72 percentile, I belong to the open category at Mumbai University?

L
LostLuster Posted On : February 27th, 2026

I’d say you have a good shot at getting into SIMSREE MMS with your 99.72 percentile. The cutoff for this year was 99.5, so you're above it. However, make sure you prepare well for the CAP rounds, as many students aim for the highest scores. It’s a solid college, and I think you could fit right in if you make it through!

How can I get selected in Sydenham Institute of Management studies Mumbai? What profile and cut off is needed?

IronicIcon Posted On : February 27th, 2026

Getting into SIMSREE requires a good score in the CET, ideally above 99.5 for the MBA program. I personally went through the CAP rounds and was selected based on my score, which was competitive. The eligibility is straightforward; just ensure you have 50% in your undergraduate degree. Focus on your preparation for the CET, and you should be good to go!

How is a day at SIMSREE?

D
DataDogfish Posted On : February 27th, 2026

A day at SIMSREE is quite packed, especially for the MBA course. We have classes from 9 AM to around 4 PM, which includes some breaks in between. The batch size is about 199 students, which makes the environment competitive yet motivating. The participation in class is crucial since it accounts for internal marks.

I usually hang out in the cafeteria or the library after classes, since there's not much else to do on campus. The location is great, being close to Marine Lines and Gateway of India, so we often explore those spots after college. Overall, it’s a mix of intense academic pressure and fun moments with friends.

CloudChihuahua Posted On : February 26th, 2026

Yes, Sydenham is a good college for an MBA. The college has a decent batch size of around 200 students, which creates a motivated peer group. We have healthy competition among us, and the curriculum encourages active participation in class.

The placements are impressive, with 100% final placements and an average CTC of 15.24 LPA. The fees are quite affordable too, as I paid around 1.36 lakh for the entire course. Overall, I think it's a great option for anyone looking to pursue an MBA.

What is the placement record of SIMSREE compared to other B schools in Maharashtra?

ByteBarracuda Posted On : February 26th, 2026

I chose SIMSREE for my MMS because of its solid placement reputation. The average CTC for our course is around 15 LPA, and I’ve seen many friends land jobs with packages above 12 LPA. The placement process here is quite streamlined, and the college has a good network of recruiters. Compared to other B schools in Maharashtra, I feel like SIMSREE gives us a strong chance to start our careers on a good note.

Which is better Sydenham MMS or Sydenham PGDM?

D
DataDaphnia Posted On : February 25th, 2026

I’d say both programs have their strengths, but it depends on what you want out of your MBA experience. MMS has a strong peer group and is quite affordable, while PGDM seems to have a more robust internship structure. If you’re really cost-conscious and still want good placements, MMS is the way to go. But if you’re looking for a more specialized experience and can manage the extra fees, maybe PGDM is better for you.

How good is SIMSREE Sydenham for pursuing an MBA? Where does it stand among the top B schools in India?

FileFlounder Posted On : February 24th, 2026

SIMSREE is a decent choice for pursuing an MBA, especially given its low fees of about 1.36 lakh for the two years. The placement stats are quite impressive, with a 100% final placement rate and an average CTC of 15.24 LPA. I found the peer group to be motivated and competitive, which makes the learning environment quite engaging. However, the campus is small, and the facilities could be better. Overall, it ranks well among the top B schools in India, sitting at number two through MBA CET, just after JBIMS.
