What are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at NIT Durgapur?

RS
Raghav Saini Posted On : September 7th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology Durgapur (2022)

As an alumni of NIT Durgapur, I am sharing some tips that will help you in your college life-

  1. Maintain a good attendance record. Maintain at least 75% attendance. A low attendance can cost you a year.
  2. Don’t register yourself in the bad books of faculty members. Some professors get vengeful and they won’t soften however much you plead.
  3. Maintain as good a CGPA as possible.
  4. Choose your friends wisely. Keep yourself surrounded by positive and motivated people.
  5. Join student organizations. Volunteer in the organizing committee of college fests.
  6. Study during your 2nd and 3rd year semester breaks. This will really help you in your professional life.
  7. RECSTACY is the annual cultural fest of NIT Durgapur. Do attend it.

These are some tips that will make your life in NIT Durgapur easier. Enjoy your four years in this college and make lifelong memories.

It is difficult to give an accurate answer as you do not mention your prioritization. Both NIT Delhi and NIT Kurukshetra are the reputed institutes in India. NITs only have qualified faculties and have good infrastructure. Apart from this, you will get greater exposure and abundant opportunities at NIT Delhi than at NIT Kurukshetra

So the final decision should be made based on the core subject and your preferences.

BITS Pilani CS is better. It offers better academics and placements to the students. As per the recent highlights of BITS Pilani placement, students of CSE receive an average CTC of around INR 17-20 LPA. Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Uber, etc. are some of the major recruiters that take part in the campus placements.

How is Bangalore University? Is it easy to pass?

SR
Sunayana Roy Posted On : August 25th, 2022
Studied at Bangalore University

Bangalore University offers good academics. Scoring the pass mark is easy. But you need to put in the effort to score higher marks.

Courses such as Microbiology, Life Science, Biotechnology, Genetics, etc. are comparably easier to score good marks. The evaluation process is a little difficult for courses such as Physics, Biochemistry, Political Science, etc. Just solving the previous years' questions will not help you score good marks in these subjects. You need to complete the syllabus as well.

The choice between VNIT Nagpur and MNIT Jaipur actually depends on many personal factors. You need to first determine your expectations from the degree and college only then can you make a sound decision.

The truth is that every NIT has its unique strengths and weaknesses and you alone can choose what to overlook and what to consider. Every NIT has unique professors with their unique pedagogy, different Infrastructure, and different placement scenarios. That being said, you need to choose wisely based on the factors that you prioritize.

Which is the best department of NIT Rourkela?

SB
Sriparna Banerjee Posted On : August 17th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Rourkela

My brother is pursuing his B.Tech Electrical from NIT Rourkela. Sometimes he feels that he made a mistake by choosing Electrical over CSE because of the popularity of the latter.

However, he soon overcomes these thoughts. This is because Electrical has a really good scope on a global scale. Even if he doesn’t land a dream job through placements, the option of higher studies is always open for him. The curriculum of Electrical includes topics from allied branches- ECE and CSE. Unlike the popular belief among NIT Rourkela students, Electrical is not just about electrical machines and power systems. Microprocessors, Embedded Systems, Signal Processing, Communication Engineering, Measurements and Instrumentation are all included in the Electrical curriculum.

B.Tech Electrical has a very interdisciplinary nature wherein you will not learn about one specific arena, but, the curriculum will allow you to understand what really interests you. You can then pursue your higher studies in your field of interest. B.Tech Electrical is so flexible that it allows you to migrate to almost any other engineering field that you want.

I would highly recommend B.Tech Electrical if you have a passionate interest in Maths and Physics. Also, a PG in this branch will allow you to truly understand its nuances and become a specialist in this field. Thus, Electrical is the best department at NIT Rourkela according to me.

How is EEE at NIT Calicut?

DS
Devesh Saraf Posted On : April 25th, 2023
Studied at NIT Calicut

If you are considering studying at the National Institute of Technology Calicut, here are some important points to keep in mind:

Academics:

  • The curriculum was last updated in 2017, and there is very little emphasis on practical applications.
  • The syllabus is designed to help you crack exams like GATE, but there may be pressure in some semesters and a lot of free time in others.
  • Simulation software is not taught as part of the curriculum, so it's a good idea to attend workshops conducted by various clubs and student groups.
  • Despite these challenges, many students secure admission in various IITs and IIMs every year.

Faculty:

  • While some of the faculty members are enthusiastic about teaching, others may not have a strong grasp of the subject or may not be interested in teaching.
  • Because there is a shortage of permanent faculty in some departments, some courses (especially electives) may be taught by ad-hoc staff with little or no teaching experience.
  • It's important to choose your electives wisely to ensure that you get the best education possible.

Infrastructure:

  • The classrooms are well-equipped, and there is usually no shortage of equipment in the labs.
  • However, the UG labs may be crowded, and you may need to do experiments in groups of 3 or 4 students in hot and humid weather conditions.

Placements:

  • Many core companies like Bosch, Schneider Electric, ABB, Larsen, and Toubro visit the campus for placements.
  • For electrical profile jobs, the packages may not be very high.
  • For electronics profile jobs, companies like Texas Instruments and Tektronix hire students from EEE backgrounds.
  • There are also many software and consultancy companies that hire EEE students.
  • The average placement rate is usually around 70-75%.

Going abroad:

  • The department has a good record of students being accepted for MS programs in renowned universities abroad.
  • If you have plans to go abroad for an MS, it's important to choose your electives carefully and select your project and guide wisely to get a strong recommendation.

Does percentile matter in NMAT? Is there a minimum percentile for NMIMS Mumbai? Or just the cutoff?

PT
Pragya Tripathi Posted On : March 9th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

When applying for NMIMS Mumbai, keep in mind that the cutoffs are declared in terms of marks, not percentiles. The NMAT cutoff for 2023 will be the minimum score required to appear for the selection rounds, which include WAT/GD/PI. The expected cutoffs for 2022 are 79+ for Logical Reasoning, 73+ for Quantitative Skills, 85+ for Language Skills, and an overall range of 205-250.

The cutoff for admission to NMIMS Mumbai is typically a score of 208 (94%). The NMAT cutoff for 2023 will depend on factors such as the number of registrations, candidates who appeared, reservation criteria, availability of seats, difficulty level, and past year cutoff trends.

Is Karunya University too strict?

SS
Sagar Suri Posted On : September 21st, 2021
B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering,Karunya University (2014)

Karunya University is very strict for all the students. The college hostel feels like captivity with high-rise walls, strict rules, and regulations.

  • There is a complete curfew for girls from 6.30 and boys from 8.30 in the evening.
  • You must stay in the hostel no matter whether they live in close vicinity to the college campus.
  • Even mobile phones are completely banned on the campus and no one is allowed to use them.
  • If anyone is found smoking on the campus, he/she is straight away suspended and a copy of the suspension letter is sent to the home.

Apart from strictness, the college provides many facilities that the students can avail and enjoy studying.

Lastly, we can conclude that by being very strict, Karunya University may not find its place in the hearts of many students due to the unnecessary restrictions that are imposed on students.
