What is the pass mark in Osmania University for the BE 1st SEM?

AR
Anumita Roy Posted On : September 28th, 2021
B.E Electronics and Communication Engineering (2020)

One of my friends had studied at Osmania University.

In the latest CBCS system that was being introduced in the year 2016, you must get 40% of the total marks. In other words, if you get a total of 40 marks including your external and internal in all of the subjects, then you will pass the semester.

Earlier, that is, before 2016, students had to score a minimum of 28 marks in the external examination to pass the semester.

The current rule is that, if you get 40 marks overall (Internal + external) then you will pass whereas the internal assessment is on 30 marks.

Why is the cutoff of IIIT Allahabad considerably low (around 5k), even if it can be compared to top notch institutions like IITs?

SA
Subham Agarwal Posted On : October 16th, 2023
Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad

There are several reasons for the low cutoffs of IIIT Allahabad. These are-

  • No Home State Quota- IIITA doesn’t have a home state quota for its seats. So the seat availability for students from across India increases, and the cutoffs get lowered.
  • Almost double the seats in IT as compared to the NITs- IIITA offers more than 200 seats for the IT branch. Alongside this, there are two integrated M.Tech programs for IT. This allows for more IT seats at IIITA than the CSE seats at NITT and NITW combined. This is another reason for a lower cutoff for the IT stream.
  • Without any strong reasons, students prefer CSE over IT.
  • A strong inclination among the students for studying in their Home NITs.
  • The old NITs were established much before IIIT Allahabad.

This is why IIIT Allahabad has low cutoffs for its B.Tech courses even though it is a top institute of India.

Is mechanical engineering at BITS Hyderabad good?

DS
Divya Saraf Posted On : December 19th, 2023
Lives in Hyderabad

The mechanical department of BITS Hyderabad has its own advantages and disadvantages. These are-

Advantages-

  1. The department faculty is quite decent, with the faculty members having published a sizable amount of their research work in esteemed journals like Elsevier, ResearchGate, etc. The department receives decent industry projects.
  2. The research scholars are highly qualified, and their selection criteria has become more and more strict over the years. The department lays importance on industry relevant research. The research projects are receiving good funding, and research has become more relevant and of better quality.

Disadvantages-

  1. The department lacks good societies and clubs. Moreover, the students of Mechanical do not perform well in various competitions like BAJA, ESVC, HyperLoop, etc. The SAE society of Mechanical department is in a poor condition.
  2. The department students do not put much effort into learning advanced concepts, because of which very few of them get good coursework related projects under the faculty. The faculty in turn, has become more and more disinterested towards putting in extra efforts for the students.

I would recommend you choose Mechanical Engineering at BITS Hyderabad only if you are interested in a research career. This is not the best option for on campus placement.

How are the placements of the mechanical branch at NIT Rourkela?

NT
Nivedita Trivedi Posted On : August 14th, 2023
NIT Rourkela (2020)

The placement scenario of the Mechanical branch of NIT Rourkela is great. Many core companies like Tata Steel, Vedanta, Tata Motors, Maruti - Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra visit the campus to recruit talented students as Graduate engineer Trainees.

A few PSUs also visit NIT Rourkela to recruit students from one of the best NITs in the country. For instance, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) visited the institute and recruited 4 Mechanical Engineering students. The core companies offer average packages of around INR 8 LPA.

Most students have to go for Analytics, Consultancy, and IT sectors due to limited opportunities in the Mechanical branch. Companies like TCS, Mu Sigma, Infosys, etc recruit such students.

Overall, the placement scenario of ME at NIT Rourkela might not be excellent but it is quite satisfactory.

What are my chances of getting into IIM Kozhikode, with 90 percentile in the CAT if I'm a female OBC fresher engineer hailing from Kozhikode?

SP
Shivam Pandey Posted On : November 14th, 2022
PGP from Indian Institute of Management Amritsar (Graduated 2020)

To get into IIM Kozhikode, a percentage of atleast 95 is preferable. Being from Kozhikode won’t be of much help.

One major piece of advice to you if you are a fresher is to indulge yourself in extracurricular activities. Get extra certificates through internships or part-time jobs. Paid courses that offer certificates will also be helpful. All this will help you in the GD-Pi process and you're likely to convert your call.

Is the infrastructure at IISER Bhopal as good as that at IISER Pune?

JT
Jagriti Tiwari, Posted On : November 9th, 2021
BS-MS from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal (2023)

IISERs get generous funding as they come directly under the MHRD of the central Government. Both IISER Bhopal and IISER Pune have state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities.

  • The labs, lecture halls, academic buildings, hostels, etc. are present at both the institutes.
  • IISER Bhopal has the largest campus among all IISERs.
  • It also has one of the finest sports facilities available in a science institute, both indoor and outdoor. These include football, tennis, basketball, badminton, chess, table tennis, etc.
  • Community centers and Visitor’ hostels are also available.
  • The whole campus is wifi enabled.
  • It is a self-sufficient campus with facilities like a shopping centre, health centre, bank, etc. all present on the campus itself.

Therefore, it is not appropriate to compare the IISERs as they all have their unique features.
