For an M.E. in Computer Science, you should prefer BITS Hyderabad. The placements are slightly better for the Hyderabad campus. The city houses a lot of IT and Electronics companies, so it's easier to get good exposure and placements. The recent highlights of BITS Hyderabad placement show the median CTC to be INR 12 LPA. Each year almost 95% of students get placed from the branch.
Due to normalization, the minimum marks required vary from 65 to 72. But, the minimum GATE score that you must try to score lies between 725 to 750 marks. Here is the cutoff for 2021.
| Category | GATE Cutoff |
| General | 609 |
| OBC | 473 |
| SC | 345 |
| ST | 317 |
| Physically disabled | 473 |
Please take note that your admission to the institution does not wholly depend on your GATE score. In fact, a good GATE score only makes you eligible for getting shortlisted and getting a call letter for further rounds which constitute group discussion (GD) and personal interview (PI).
Before releasing the final merit list, different weights are assigned to your past academic records- 10th, 12th and undergraduate percentage, your GATE score, and your performance in the GD and PI round, and then, all these scores will be added up and an aggregate will be taken out. Thus, making it to college does not solely depend on your GATE score.
Apart from your hard work, determination, and perseverance, nothing guarantees you admission to this premier institution.
If you are planning to get into NMIMS Mumbai through NMAT, it is important to keep in mind that this is the best program to aim for. The exam has both sectional cut-offs and an overall cut-off, which usually ranges from 207 to 210, but can vary every year. Therefore, it is important to focus on scoring well, especially in your strong areas, in order to maximize your score.
Individual sectional cut-offs can vary as well. For instance, the Quant section may have a cut-off of 65, while the Logic section could range from 60 to 65, and the Verbal section could range from 55 to 60. However, it is not advisable to focus solely on clearing the sectional cut-offs, as many students who do so end up missing the overall cut-off by just a few marks.
It is important to note that even if you have a very high score, it does not necessarily guarantee success in the GDPI process and final admission. There have been cases where students with high scores were not able to convert the call, while others with a score of just 208 when the cut-off was 207 were able to successfully convert the call and secure admission.
Therefore, it is important to approach the selection process holistically and focus on performing well in all aspects, including the GDPI process, in order to increase your chances of success in securing admission to NMIMS Mumbai through NMAT.
Usually, the college does not reveal the sectional cutoff on an official basis. On average, the cutoff are decided depending on the applicant pool and this could also decrease after a while by a few percentiles. This is true for a few sections but expects it not to go below 80.
With your current scores and past trends, if you are from the general category then you will not get a call back from the institute.
If you are lucky with respect to your applicant pool, you might have some small chances, but my advice to you would be to look for other options and not keep high hopes.
It will be difficult to get into colleges such as FMS, XLRI, and MDI with less than 60% in 12th. But it’s achievable. FMS assigns 10% weight to 10+2 scores. So, if you manage to score around the 99.5 percentile in CAT, you will have a chance of getting shortlisted. You need to perform well in the GD-PI round as well. XLRI and MDI assign 15% weight to past academics and work experience.
So, try to work on your profile by adding extra-curricular activities. Also, prepare well for entrance tests and the GD-PI round.
As per the AMU admission trends of the last few years, around 300-350 ranks in the Chance memo list get cleared. You may wait until the 3rd chance memo list. But there’s no way to know whether you will get in or not. It entirely depends on the no of vacant seats.
If you get at least 75% in UPTU, you can easily get into IET Lucknow. Both CS and IT courses are variations on the same theme, dealing with computers and programming. IT is on par with the CS department. You will be hired if you know how to code. It is your skill set and what you can offer the company that makes the difference, not your branch.
And hard work, guidance from seniors, and the tech culture all play important roles in developing the skill set.
