How do the placements really compare between IIT Delhi B.Tech Material Science Engineering and IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Instrumentation Engineering?

S

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Material Science Engineering offers a fun and engaging curriculum with a focus on modern techniques like machine learning, while IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering has a more traditional approach to its coursework. In terms of placements, IIT Delhi shines with an impressive 80% placement rate and top companies like Google and Amazon actively recruiting there, whereas IIT Kharagpur also performs well but hasn't matched that level yet. Campus life at both colleges is vibrant, but IIT Delhi seems to have a slight edge in student engagement through its clubs and societies.

Personally, I would choose IIT Delhi for its strong placement opportunities and dynamic learning environment, especially for those interested in cutting-edge technology and research. However, if you prefer a more classic engineering experience, IIT Kharagpur might be the better fit.

Should I go for B.Tech Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering in IIT Delhi or B.Tech Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering in IIT Kharagpur?

It really depends on what you want to pursue. If you’re leaning towards B.Tech, go for it! However, think carefully before considering a Ph.D. in this department. Here are some points to consider:

  • Many colleagues in the department express concerns about poor funding and unprofessional treatment from some professors.
  • There have been inquiries by the Dean's office regarding improper funding expenditures, and the infrastructure is reportedly lacking.
  • Lab facilities and maintenance are not up to par.
  • The current and previous heads of the department have not been well-regarded in terms of subject expertise or treatment of students.
  • The general perception is that Ph.D. students are not treated well in the DBEB department at IIT Delhi.

On the other hand, the KSBS (Biomedical Science) department has comparatively better funding, but the professors may not have as much expertise as those in DBEB. Additionally, life sciences research is happening in the SIER and CARE departments, which are newer and interdisciplinary.

Ultimately, it’s crucial to remember that the experience can vary significantly depending on individual professors, regardless of their departments. Please take this into account when making your decision!

How do the placements really compare between IIT Delhi B.Tech Industrial & Production Engineering and IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Instrumentation Engineering?

V
VelvetVietnamesePho Posted On : April 17th, 2026

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering and IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering both offer solid placements, but the financial aspect makes IIT Delhi a smarter choice for many. With an average package of 18 lakhs and over 90% placement rate, IIT Delhi seems to provide better ROI despite its higher fees. While IIT Kharagpur has good exposure and faculty, it lacks specific placement data, making it hard to gauge its financial benefits accurately. Scholarships at IIT Delhi can assist economically weaker sections, adding to its value.

If you're looking for strong placement prospects and the potential for higher earnings, IIT Delhi is the way to go; however, if a broader engineering discipline appeals to you and you're less concerned about immediate returns, IIT Kharagpur could still be a good fit.

Which one should I opt for IIT Delhi B.Tech Mathematics and Computing or IIT Kharagpur B.Tech + M.Tech Mechanical Engineering

IIT Delhi.

Reasons include better professors, the caliber of your future classmates, and placement opportunities (trust me, many multinational corporations like Samsung Korea and Rubrik U.S. don’t visit IIT Kharagpur, but they regularly come to IIT Delhi for internships and placements). There are also great opportunities for pursuing further studies at top-tier international universities.

Additionally, IIT Delhi is located in the heart of Delhi (specifically South Delhi) and is not far from the Delhi airport. There are plenty of restaurants, malls, theaters, and bars to enjoy on weekends.

In contrast, the nearest city to IIT Kharagpur is Kolkata, which is about 140 km away. The closest decent restaurant to IIT Kharagpur is a Domino’s outlet, and it doesn’t even deliver pizzas inside the campus.

I usually don’t put much stock in QS Rankings, but you can rely on them when they rank IIT Delhi higher than IIT Kharagpur.

Cheers!

CobaltCashew Posted On : April 17th, 2026

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Material Science Engineering offers a strong curriculum and excellent placement stats, with an average package around 20 LPA and a high placement rate of about 80%. The fee structure is around 13 lakh for the entire course, which is reasonable considering the return on investment and placement opportunities. In contrast, IIT Kanpur's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering has a similar fee structure, but the placement rate is slightly lower, and the internship stipends can vary widely. While both colleges are prestigious, IIT Delhi seems to provide better value for money with a more robust placement record and a supportive campus life. If you’re looking for a more solid financial outcome, IIT Delhi is the smarter choice.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Material Science Engineering offers a vibrant campus life with numerous clubs and excellent placement stats, boasting an 80% placement rate and impressive packages, making it a solid choice for those interested in hands-on learning and industry connections. In contrast, IIT Guwahati's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing may have a more outdated curriculum, but it still provides strong internship opportunities and a decent campus atmosphere.

Personally, I would lean towards IIT Delhi for its better placements and more engaging student experience, especially if you value a dynamic environment and industry exposure. However, if you prefer theoretical depth with a focus on computing, IIT Guwahati might suit you better.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering clearly stands out when it comes to placements, with tech giants like Amazon and Google actively recruiting students, while IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering may not have the same level of tech industry exposure. However, IIT Kharagpur offers a unique niche, especially for those passionate about marine engineering. Both colleges boast excellent faculty and vibrant campus life, but IIT Delhi has a more robust curriculum focused on AI/ML, which aligns with current job market demands. If you're aiming for a career in tech, IIT Delhi would be my pick; if you're more inclined towards naval engineering, IIT Kharagpur could be the right choice.

Which one should I opt for IIT Delhi B.Tech Civil Engineering or IIT Bombay B.Tech Computer Science Engineering

E
Echolocation Posted On : April 17th, 2026

IIT Bombay's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering offers a significant edge in placements and internship opportunities compared to IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Civil Engineering. IIT Bombay attracts top tech firms like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft, with students often receiving higher packages, including offers that can exceed 2.65 crore. On the other hand, while IIT Delhi's civil engineering program has its strengths, the placement scenarios are generally less lucrative, especially in tech-driven roles. If you're leaning towards a tech career with better job prospects and packages, IIT Bombay is the clear choice; however, if your passion lies in civil engineering and you're less concerned about tech salaries, IIT Delhi is a solid option.

Should I go for B.Tech Industrial & Production Engineering in IIT Delhi or BE Electrical and Electronics Engineering in BITS Pilani?

MemeMerchantMagpie Posted On : April 17th, 2026

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering offers a robust placement program with companies like Google, Microsoft, and Tata regularly visiting campus, and an impressive average package of around 18 lakhs, which is hard to beat. In contrast, BITS Pilani's BE in Electrical and Electronics Engineering also has good placement prospects but lacks specific package data in the details I found. While both colleges provide excellent faculty and infrastructure, IIT Delhi edges ahead in terms of placement opportunities and the companies that recruit from there. If you're keen on strong career outcomes and high packages, IIT Delhi is the way to go; however, if you prefer a more balanced academic environment with flexibility, BITS Pilani could be a good fit.
