According to my friend at IIT Ropar, the first batch of Microelectronics and VLSI Design was from 2019-2020, where there were only 10 and 7 students for the M.Tech and Ph.D. course respectively.
- The faculties of IIT Ropar are young and energetic.
- It’s quite early to predict placements and hence should wait for some time.
- Being an IIT, the college is well developed, the infrastructure is decent, and the academics are great.
- The faculty of IIT Ropar for Microelectronics and VLSI Design branch of 1st semester includes 1 professor from IIT Delhi and 5 professors from IIT Bombay and Guwahati.
- The courses for the 1st semester for the Microelectronics and VLSI Design includes a total of 5 courses, 1 lab, and 1 seminar session.
- These include Digital IC Design, RF Engineering, CMOS Analog IC Design, Semiconductor Device Physics and Modeling, CAD for VLSI Design, Circuit Simulation Lab, and Seminar Session.

I would say that it is not suitable for those who wish to pursue a career in research. Also, if you are hoping for good placements in any robotics company you will be disappointed. But first, weigh the benefits and drawbacks.
Pros and Cons:
- You will complete two degrees in five years. But you do not need two degrees to get a good job; a B.Tech course is far superior in this case.
- You will have a lot of time to concentrate on the work you want to do.
- You will have the opportunity to study both B.Tech and M.Tech.
- Some companies frequently provide more benefits to M.Tech students. But some will not allow you to sit because they do not accept M.Tech students.
- You will only be paid for a period of ten months. M.Tech students, on the other hand, are paid for 22 months, whereas B.Tech students are paid for the internships they obtain in their final semesters.
- Because of thesis work, M.Tech students are not permitted to participate in any internships during their final year.

How does MTech mechatronics at IIT Patna compare to the same at NIT Surathkal?
The Mechatronics branch in itself is not very developed in India irrespective of whichever institute offers it. IIT Patna is a new IIT and lacks the necessary resources and infrastructure while NIT Surathkal has a very challenging curriculum for MTech Mechatronics. The breakdown is 60% Mechanical and 40% Electronics. Students from other domains find it difficult to cope with the rigorous curriculum.
Although the faculty pool comprises good professors, the placement scenario is just average. So try looking for other options or go for IIT Patna instead.

Pros:
- IIIT Bangalore has a very diverse and talented peer group because it has no reservation policy.
- The placements have been spectacular from the first batch itself when the median package stood at INR 14.7 LPA.
- IIIT Bangalore is known for its highly experienced and talented faculty. Their profiles are at par with IIT and NIT professors and are also very approachable.
- Located in the IT hub, IIIT Bangalore students receive internship offers from many top firms and IT Giants.
- The college has excellent campus and hostel facilities and every minor inconvenience is taken care of.
Cons:
- The college is CS-oriented and gives little importance to sports and other extracurricular activities. Students are more involved in hackathons and other coding competitions.
- IIIT Bangalore operates from a very small campus of only 10 acres.
- The course offered is a 5-year course rather than the usual 4-year course which requires you to spend an extra year doing an internship or a thesis.
- IIIT Bangalore does not enjoy a very good reputation among recruiters yet mainly because it’s newly established.
- It’s very expensive and the cost of the first year fees of the integrated program is INR ?3.84 Lakhs.
Considering everything, IIIT Bangalore will take a few more years to establish itself and therefore should only be considered if you have no better options.
How tough is the iMtech(Btech+Mtech) course at IIIT Bangalore?
The iMTech course at IIIT Bangalore is quite challenging and rigorous. The students are evaluated weekly through tests and assignments. They hardly get any free time. However, students joining this course are aware of the right and still are committed to hard work.
A friend who joined the recent batch shared her experience. The first quiz took place just 12 days from the orientation after which quizzes were scheduled for every week. She had to go through strict deadlines for completion of 50% of Python and C in just 2 weeks.
The college has a very rigorous academic ambiance helping students to become punctual and learn time management. Some energetic souls despite their busy schedules, spare time for sports, competitions, hackathons, fests, and other fun activities.
