PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : May 9th, 2023

Yes, I think executive M. Tech. in Data Science is definitely worth joining because of its uniqueness. This isn’t available in every IIT and IIT Hyderabad has launched it recently considering the recent industry demands.

This program is exclusively for working professionals who want to further their education and advance in their careers. The candidates can complete the program at their own pace and take 2-4 years. The candidates can pursue this program remotely through online courses or do it at IIT Hyderabad campus itself. Either way, you will have to visit the campus on weekends.

With every industry producing huge amounts of data, it’s necessary that we have skilled Data scientists to handle the same. The program aims at producing such skilled Data Scientists to tackle related problems in the future.

Which is better - doing M.Tech from IITs or going for NITIE Mumbai?

RK

Having to know some people studying in both these colleges, I can say that they are equally good. You can opt for any one of them, their respective programs are also good. They are recognized as Centres of Excellence by MHRD, Govt of India.

The choice mainly depends on the individual and their preferences. You should go for the one you are enthusiastic about.

  • NITIE offers 3 courses, where the selection is through GATE scores.
  • These include Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering, Project Management, and Manufacturing Management.
  • These courses are a mixture of technical and business management.
  • IITs offer M.Tech through GATE exam scores.
  • It involves core specialization and nothing about industrial management.

So, the selection of the college and the course entirely depends on you. Go through them and then decide which will be a better option for your career.

How are the hostel facilities for M.Tech students in VNIT Nagpur?

M.tech from VNIT Nagpur

As a girl hosteller, I can shed some light on the hostel facilities for M.Tech girls at VNIT Nagpur.

Girl students get a single room from the first year of M.Tech itself. The girls’ hostels are clean, but the rules and regulations are strict. One such rule is the hostel curfew timing which changes each year. It won’t be more than 10pm in any case.

Overall, the hostel facilities are good at VNIT.

Why average salary of IIT Roorkee M.Tech (CSE) is similar to tier-3 (or average) engineering colleges?

AS
Anuj Sinha Posted On : April 14th, 2023
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (2021)

Sadly, most companies prefer UG students over PG students because they can get the same job done with a smaller package and they are more flexible than MTech students. There are mainly two types of people who opt for MTech

  • Research enthusiasts who target Ph.D.
  • People who weren’t able to land a good package after BTech

As far as placements are concerned, those who want to pursue a Ph.D. eventually have zero interest in placements while those who are looking for a job consider an MTech degree as a door to better opportunities and packages.

While some companies offer similar packages and profiles to both BTech and MTech students, most other companies discriminate between them. It’s sad to admit that most companies don’t prefer MTexh students over BTech students. However, some students with exceptionally good performance or skills may land a package of around INR 10 LPA. Other students receive low packages bringing down the overall average CTC of the Institute. This is why the average salary of MTech students at IIT Roorkee is very much similar to that of below-average institutes.

Is it beneficial to join IIT Hyderabad for an M.Tech (3 years) from a placement point of view?

V
Vaani Posted On : May 9th, 2023
M.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (2016)

IIT Hyderabad is one of the fastest growing new IITs and thus it’s highly beneficial to join it for an MTech especially considering its excellent placement scenario.

Owing to its prime location it is visited by top Electronics and Communication and Computer Science companies located in Hyderabad.

IIT Hyderabad provided MTech in various specializations with the best being MTech in

  • VLSI
  • Communication and Signal Processing
  • Machine learning
  • Artificial intelligence

All the above programs have great job opportunities and you will get a job in top MNCs like Intel, Qualcomm, and Cisco, Microsoft, and AMD. Usually, the package offered by these MNCs is above INR 20 LPA.

IIT Hyderabad is a good choice if you don’t have the option of any other old IIT, but if you do then go for VLSI or communication and signal processing as options.

Should I pursue M.Tech from IIIT Allahabad or NIT's?

KD
Kirti Das Posted On : October 13th, 2023
Lives In Allahabad

While choosing a college for MTech between NITs and IIIT Allahabad you can refer to the following preference order. The following colleges have been ranked based on curriculum, placements, faculty, research work, student life, infrastructure, and other important aspects.

  • NIT Surathkal
  • NIT Warangal
  • NIT Trichy
  • NIT Calicut
  • NIT Allahabad
  • VNIT Nagpur
  • SVNIT Surat
  • MNIT Jaipur
  • IIIT Hyderabad
  • IIIT Bangalore
  • NIT Bhopal
  • NIT Rourkela
  • IIIT Allahabad
  • NIT Delhi

The reason I have placed IIIT Allahabad second last is because IIIT Allahabad is known for its BTech program and nit MTech program. Most software companies don’t permit MTech students to sit for placements and prefer BTech students only. You can not match the level of IITs and NITs. Moreover, you will find no passionate coders in MTech IIIT Allahabad.

  • BTech and Dual degree in MnC (Maths and Computing) cannot apply for this program.
  • The maximum number of students allowed to minor in Computer Science every year is 20.
  • The candidate applying for a minor in CE must have necessarily cleared courses COL100(Introduction to computer science) and COL106(Data Structures and Algorithms) with a minimum grade point of 8 in each of them.
  • COL100 will not be counted toward the minor areas.
  • COL 106 will not be considered if it has been cleared as a core subject.
  • The candidate must have cleared at least 3 Department cores and the remaining courses can be done from Department electives.

Is it worth giving 10 lakhs for an M.Tech self-sponsored in IIT Hyderabad?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : May 16th, 2023

I think it’s highly illogical to charge such high fees for an MTech self-sponsored at IIT Hyderabad. Usually, they consider industry-sponsored and self-sponsored as equal. However, the fees for sponsored candidates are always higher than for MHRD candidates. So I would recommend you to clear GATE or get into an industry in order to do your Mtech as 10 Lakhs for an MTech is not worth it and might put you in a financial hole. In many cases, self-sponsored students are considered inferior by the professors.

Ultimately, go for it only if you are financially stable and can afford it. Else, go for other options like GATE, industrial jobs, or many other NITs and IITs.

How is an MTech in communication engineering at NIT Trichy?

SM
Sheetal Mehta Posted On : September 2nd, 2021
M.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering & Communication Systems, NIT Trichy (2017)

NIT Trichy has great placements for branches like CSE and ECE. Most of the recruiting companies give preference to B.Tech students rather than M.Tech. But as far as Communications Engineering is concerned, you will be allowed to appear for placement drives held by semiconductor companies with B.Tech students.

There are quite a few companies that prefer Communications students over VLSI. Many students end up being placed in dream semiconductor companies. Out of say, 35 students, only 1 or 2 are not placed. The placements are definitely improving over the years.

It is advisable to have basic coding knowledge at least along with your core subject. That way, you will definitely be able to do well.

Many companies visit the CSE branch every year with a decent salary package. Only a limited number of core companies approach students from the EE and EC branches. The placement support at BM and BT is relatively poor at NIT Rourkela.
