How are hostel rooms at IIT Roorkee?

RS
Radhika Srivastava Posted On : April 11th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

Every hostel at IIT Roorkee has different quality rooms allotted to the students. My friend is a first-year student and was allotted a room in Rajendra Bhavan. This hostel is meant specially for first-year students and comprises 3 blocks, A, B, and C.

  • All the 3 blocks have a different variety of rooms with block A having the best.
  • A typical room in a hostel of IIT Roorkee has a cupboard, study table, laptop table, chair, and bed.
  • Every room has different quality wall paint and other things like curtains, foot mats, flooring, and power sockets.
  • A block has mostly single occupancy rooms while block B has 2-3 seater rooms. Block C has a unique aspect of an individual open balcony in every room.
  • There are electrical appliances like Fans, LED lights, LAN ports, and room heaters to make the students stay comfortable.
  • The best rankers are usually given single rooms while others are given double rooms.
  • After completing your first year, you are allotted a single room that is large enough for a single student.
  • The girls hostels are Sarojini Bhavan and Kasturba Bhavan.
  • The mess is maintained well and serves hygienic yet average taste food.

Overall, IIT Roorkee has decent hostels that will not make you feel homesick!

What is the cutoff mark for BBA at Ravenshaw University?

DR
Diya Rao Posted On : October 22nd, 2021
B.Sc. Computer Science, Ravenshaw University, Cuttack (2019)

The cut for BBA at Ravenshaw University varies around 80% for the first round and further decreases with the number of seats available.

  • In case you scored less than or equal to 80% then your name will appear in the waiting list and you will get converted in the second round where the cutoff is at 60%.
  • Successively, the cut-off for the third round goes down to 50%. If the seats are vacant after 3rd round then the students who are on the waiting list get admission.
  • But as far as I know, you would get admission in the third selection round itself because there are plenty of vacant seats in the BBA department.

I hope you score well and above 80% so that you get selected in the first round itself or else you may wait till third.

Does BIT Mesra have a management quota?

VA
Varda Ahmed Posted On : May 10th, 2021
Sociology honours from Jamia University

My sister is from BIT Mesra, and I am quite aware of the situation here. There is no such thing as a management quota at BIT Mesra.

Every year, rumors spread about this, but later it is discovered that all the rumors were false. You can go to college by yourself to check this out. This will also give you a clear idea of what you are gonna have for the few most important years of your life.

However, there is only one reservation for BC-I and BC-II students from the state of Jharkhand. More information about this reservation quota can be found on the college's website.

Which books should we prefer for the NICMAR (NCAT) exam?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : May 25th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Basically, there are 3 rounds to enter NICMAR:

  1. Written: The written portion is identical to any admission exam that includes aptitude and grammar. Read books by RS Agrawal, and you'll succeed.
  2. Group discussions: GDs typically centre on current events or hypothetical construction or project situations. For the GD, you can start reading the newspaper carefully a few months before the test. There won't be a clear trend in the topics discussed, but most of them will be current.
  3. Personal Interview: You may be asked general questions on HR, technology, current events, and other topics.

Advice: Be self-assured and communicate effectively.

How is Lucknow University particularly for MBA?

AT
Ajita Sharma Thukran Posted On : September 30th, 2021
Studies MBA (Business Analytics) at IIM Ahmedabad,2023

If you are trying to make an appearance in the corporate world, then stepping into a university with prospects as much as what Lucknow University has would not necessarily turn out good at the end of the day.

There is a broader reason why:

  • Choosing to pursue an intensive course like MBA might not be fruitful if you opt for a particularly obscure university.
  • The professors of the university can be highly qualified and professional in what they have done until now.
  • Lucknow University has not quite sntached the attention, when placements are considered.
  • The pedagogy of the faculty is undoubtedly exceptional, but the administration does not take responsibility for placement opportunities.

If you are particularly focusing on your academic credentials, besides your location tethered to Lucknow itself, then Lucknow University can be a good choice; but in no case otherwise.

It is best that you reach out to several faculty members of the institute closely attached to Lucknow University, for better guidance regarding your course structure.

Yes, pursuing Masters at IIIT Hyderabad is worth it. Below are the reasons:

  • Develop strong programming skills: IIIT Hyderabad prioritizes building good programming skills, which surpasses other institutes.
  • Opportunity to engage in research: IIIT Hyderabad is renowned for its world-class labs in Vision, Language Processing, Data Analytics, Cloud, and Agricultural research.
  • Access to a strong Alumni network: Despite being a young institution, IIIT Hyderabad has alumni who have established themselves in technical and managerial jobs, making it easier for you to gain access to internship and job opportunities in India and abroad.
  • Good placement track record: Many reputed companies, such as Google, Facebook, and Pocket Gems, conduct campus placements in IIIT Hyderabad, with several other companies offering job placements during the placement season.
  • Focus on personal development: IIIT Hyderabad aims to develop you as an individual, rather than merely prepare you for a job.

However, there are some drawbacks that you should consider:

  • There are rumors that placements are biased toward B Techs.
  • The course is relatively expensive if you do not receive a GATE scholarship.

Are the placements in NIT Trichy getting worse compared to the previous years?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 19th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Whether the placements are improving or getting worse depends on the branch you are referring to. In the case of CSE, placements can be seen improving every year due to increasing demand in the market whereas placements of other core branches are deteriorating every year. However, this scenario is similar not only in the case of NIT Trichy but even in other IITs.

Students of core branches either

  • Pursue MBA or MTech after BTech to get placed better in the core sector
  • Start learning coding skills and sit for average IT companies

So, it’s better to sum for a better branch rather than blaming the institute. Some might deceive you into believing that the tag of the college matters more than anything. But in reality, it all depends on the branch you choose. Sometimes the JEE coaching centers promote IITs to a large extent that people tend to go for an under-average branch just for the IIT tag. I warn you against this as your career depends on your branch.

Generalizing the issue, if you happen to have a choice between lower branches at top engineering colleges like new IITs, NITs and higher branches in tier-1 colleges like BITS, CEG, and NSIT, I will say go for the latter.
