Why do students from NSIT, DTU, IIIT A, IIITD and MNNIT perform well in SPOJ, CodeChef, and Codeforces even though NIT Trichy, Warangal, and Surathkal have much better ranked students?

Competitive coding has nothing to do with the JEE curriculum. So someone’s coding skill does not depend on their JEE rank. At least not until coding becomes a part of JEE syllabus.

Coding depends a lot on the environment of the institute. Environment plays a major role in making students do certain things. IIITA has a great coding culture. Which makes everyone have a go at coding. It’s the culture that provokes you to start competitive programming early. You will not find that kind of coding culture at most NITs.

MY
Manjula Yadav Posted On : September 8th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science, Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (2020)

Some of my friends are studying at IIT Ropar. According to them, the location used to be an ancient Harappan civilization site. This became the major influence of the infrastructure. Here are some things that make it stand out among others.

  • Each department has its own lecture halls, faculty offices, labs, and seminar halls.
  • The lecture hall has a seating capacity of around 150 students.
  • The labs of the CSE department are open 24/7.
  • Currently, the campus has 4 boys and 1 girls hostel and the campus is fully residential. Each hostel has a common room with a table tennis table, a reading room, and a gym.
  • 1st and 2nd-year students get a double occupancy room while all others get a single occupancy room.
  • Sports facilities on campus include a badminton court, a football, a cricket, and a hockey ground.
  • The campus also has an auditorium of around 850 people seating capacity and a central library.
  • IIT Ropar hosts an annual cultural festival called Zeitgeist which is considered one of the biggest college cultural festivals in the Punjab-Haryana region. It sees a footfall of around 15,000 people all across the country.

You will have the best four years of your life here and the permanent campus of IIT Ropar is a very good place to be.

Which is the best branch/department at AIIMS Delhi to pursue MD/MS in?

AG
Aditya Ghose Posted On : May 31st, 2023
All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi

The best branch/department to pursue MD/MS in at AlIMS Delhi is highly subjective and can vary depending on your personal interests and career goals. However, some of the top departments at AlIMS Delhi include:

  • Department of Anatomy
  • Department of Biochemistry
  • Department of Pharmacology
  • Department of Microbiology
  • Department of Forensic Medicine

In addition to these, AIIMS has a separate dedicated center for Ophthalmology, RP Centre. For those interested in Ophthalmology, this department is the best place for you. The credibility of this department can be proved by the fact that Prof L P Agarwal, the founder director and first Chief of RP Centre was the one who laid down the foundation for the National Program for Control of Blindness. Amazingly enough, India was the first country to launch such a program.

One of my friends told me that while preparing for the PG exams, all the textbook cases she came across were similar to the cases she dealt with in her residency. This helps us to relate and makes the learning process easier.

The academic focus is intense with academic rounds twice a week. During these rounds, e important topics including the latest research are discussed by consultants. These discussions play a vital role in exams.

The first surgical experience at RP Centre, AIIMS, takes place by the end of the first semester. It is an extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) under the supervision of a senior resident. After doing a couple of those, you get to perform your first suture-less cataract surgery s in the second semester.

The department has the finest infrastructure and lab facilities with modern microscopes, and machines

Ultimately, the best branch depends on your personal preferences. At the end though, the best branch/department depends upon one's personal choice.

How easy is it to take a branch change at iit bombay?

AT
Adwait Tejas Posted On : March 17th, 2023
studied Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2021)

If you're looking to change your branch at IIT Bombay, there are two main factors that will determine how easy or difficult it is for you:

  1. Other students who are also looking to change their branch - The demand for different branches at IITB is divided into three categories: high-level demand (Computer Science & Engineering and Electrical Engineering), mid-level demand (Engineering Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering), and low-level demand (all other branches).
  2. Your own priorities and aptitude - You'll need to decide how much time you want to dedicate to studying vs. extracurricular activities, and where you fit relative aptitude compared to other students.

Here's a breakdown of what these factors mean for you:

Role of the first factor:

  • Demand for different branches at IIT Bombay is based largely on which branch offers better job opportunities and salaries, so some branches are more competitive than others.
  • Depending on the level of demand for your desired branch, it may be harder or easier to get a COB.

Role of the second factor:

  • Depending on how much time you want to dedicate to studying vs. extracurricular activities, and where you fit relative aptitude, you may find it easier or harder to get a COB.
  • Specifically, you can think of yourself as falling into one of the following categories:
  • Most of the time dedicated to studying and least to the extracurrics (MSLE)
  • Equal amount of dedication and time to both studies and extracurrics (ESE)
  • Least time given to studies and most to the extracurrics (LSME)
  • Students with above average aptitude (AAA)
  • Students with average aptitude (AA)
  • Students with below-average aptitude (BAA)

Overall, getting a COB at IIT Bombay will depend on a combination of these factors, so it's important to be realistic about your chances and make sure you're prepared to put in the effort needed to succeed.

What does it feel like to be studying in IIT (BHU)?

OB
Oindrila Bose Posted On : June 15th, 2023
Studied at IIT BHU (2019)

IIT BHU is 15th in the NIRF India Rankings 2023: Engineering. It is one of the top engineering institutes in India with a healthy curriculum and an impressive placement record.

Apart from the statistical data, IIT BHU is an old and beautiful institution that is situated in the spiritual city of Varanasi. Varanasi is a small town and for those who wish to experience clubbing and party culture during their college days, this town does not have much to offer. But for those who wish to live the joys of a small town with narrow streets and amazing local culture, IIT BHU, and Varanasi is the place for you.

My brother studied Chemical Engineering at IIT BHU, and here are some of his views regarding life at IIT BHU:

  1. IIT BHU campus is integrated with the campus of BHU, making the total campus area more than 1300 acres filled with greenery. The greenery is very soothing and pleasant and has great benefits on mental and physical well-being
  2. On Saturday nights, all the students go to the Assi Ghat to let out their stress and sit peacefully, sipping tea
  3. The streets of Varanasi are lively and one can find amazing street food
  4. College clubs are very active. There are always different activities being held on campus. Fests and Star Nights create an atmosphere of fun
  5. IIT BHU students get the chance to mingle with the BHU students
  6. The  Vishwanathan temple is beautiful and a sight to behold
  7. The sports facilities are unbeatable. There are football pitch size grounds every 500 meters
  8. The infrastructure is not very developed. The buildings have an ancient touch to them, which is unique and beautiful, but the hostel rooms need a lot of improvement and need to get bigger. Overall, the infrastructure does need improvement

IIT BHU is an amazing place to learn, grow and make friends. It offers a plethora of opportunities to its students. You should consider IIT BHU.

RD
Rahul Dasgupta Posted On : July 5th, 2022

FMS Delhi is better than IIM Kozhikode. It offers better ROI. According to the recent highlights of FMS Delhi placements, students receive an average CTC of around INR 32.4 LPA. While the highest CTC goes up to INR 58 LPA.

FMS has a smaller batch size compared to IIM Kozhikode. So, it’s easier for students to get decent placements. FMS is older than IIM Kozhikode and hence has a larger alumni base.
