Is it possible to get more than 70% marks in DU SOL?

PK
Pawan Kumar Posted On : November 9th, 2022
B.A. from University of Delhi

Yes, it’s very much possible to attain more than 70% marks in DU SOL. My brother was lucky enough to score 71.1% in his second year of B.Com.(Hons). He mentioned a few simple strategies that helped him get good marks.

  1. Set your target: The very first step has to be to fix a target. In my brother's case, he set his target at 75%.

  2. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses: Focus more on the subjects you are well versed in. Compensate the marks you will lose in the subjects you are below average at with the marks you will get in subjects you are good at.

  3. Attempt the paper well: When I say attempt the paper well, I also mean make it presentable. Neat handwriting and diagrams never go unnoticed.

  4. Additional guidance: Getting tuition for subjects you are weak at is better than mugging up the concept. These classes are available near North and South Campus.

  5. Consistency is the key: Leaving the entire syllabus for a few days before the exams is not a good option. Study regularly, even if for just a few hours. You will see amazing results.

Adopting all these strategies, my brother got 71.1%. So I don’t think it’s difficult to score above 70% in DU SOL.

How is IISER Kolkata better than IISER Pune?

SB
Saswata Banerjee Posted On : December 21st, 2021
BS-MS Degree from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata

Here are some of the things that make IISER Kolkata stand out.

Course Choice: You can choose your course from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, even from Earth Sciences.

Peaceful Campus: The campus is secluded and hence ideal for studies.

Faculties: The faculties of IISER Kolkata are well-known worldwide for their research work.

Friendly Environment: The professors and the seniors are quite friendly. You can discuss any problem you may have with your faculties openly.

Alumni Network: IISER Kolkata has a vast alumni network. The alumni base of IISER K is better than that of IISER Pune.

All IISER have their own pros and cons, so there is no use in comparing one IISER to another. IISER Pune has better infrastructure and outreach but that doesn’t make it better than all the other IISER. All these IISERs are great options for pursuing your studies.

How is mechanical engineering at IIT (BHU)?

UG
Udit Ghose Posted On : November 17th, 2022
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Sharda University

My cousin was a student at IIT BHU in Varanasi. She shared her experience as to why she thinks it’s not a good branch for Mechanical Engineering.

  • The professors are under qualified here. They have little knowledge about their own subjects and teach only bookish concepts. The classes are boring.

  • Students attend classes merely for attendance. This is because even if you score good marks, you might fail if your attendance is less than 75% in that particular subject.

  • The numerical answers are not checked through the stepwise method. That is your method to solve has no value if your answer is wrong.

  • Professors here are not well versed with the relative grading system. This affects the CGPA of many students.

  • Placements are mediocre here. Only non core sectors like coding and analytics get placement opportunities. The salaries offered are also very low.

  • Labs are not equipped with modern tools. The students get no practical exposure.

The conclusion from her experience was that the professors in Mechanical Engineering at Varanasi IIT are bringing down the results of students terribly.

What is IIT Delhi best at among all the IITs?

KS
Kunal Sharma Posted On : April 10th, 2023
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

IIT Delhi is indeed a well esteemed Engineering college in India. The best part about IIT Delhi is that it provides holistic development of the students rather than just focusing on academics. You get to explore and experience everything you can imagine in your life. You are able to multitask by the time you leave college.

The students here are not just academic geniuses but each one of them has a unique trait. Most students are all-rounders excelling in sports, academics as well as cultural activities.

An added bonus is the close proximity to DU colleges which form a network of colleges and students clustered together. The IIT Delhi students actively participate among students belonging to diverse streams of knowledge.

IIT Delhi's location is also a major reason why it is considered the best. While all other IITs are far from the city, IIT Delhi is located in the center of the city more importantly in South Delhi. This locational advantage brings tremendous opportunities in terms of placements and amenities.

The overall culture inside and outside the campus makes IIT Delhi a unique IIT in every sense.

How is IBS Pune?

RC
Rishi Roy Choudhary Posted On : February 17th, 2021
MBA at IBS Pune

IBS, Pune is a highly regarded Business School that covers fundamentally every field of study a student of management has arguably thought about. Here is a brief highlight of the institute.

  • Case-study based Pedagogy: It follows a case-study methodology for teaching. This is quite fascinating, considering you get to learn based on cases that have actually taken place.
  • Self-study: On the other hand, IBS Pune is not for those who are not self-motivated. The institute does not impose too much pressure academically so it is up to you to take the initiative to study, get your work done in time, and clear your doubts. Most students lack the self-motivation to stay focused and lose interest in studies by the end of the 1st year.
  • Faculty: According to student reviews, the faculty at the institute has expertise in subjects like marketing, human resources, entrepreneurship, and other subjects.
  • Industry Tie-ups: The college also has collaboration with many reputed companies to ensure good placements.
  • Location: Being situated in Pune, it has a locational advantage. With Mumbai being so close, students get a lot of exposure.

Table below will provide an overview of IBS Pune.

Average CTC

INR 6.1 LPA

Top Recruiters

Google, Amul, Zomato, Wipro, Oracle, Vedanta, TNS, Colgate, DLF, Deloitte, etc.

Popular Course

PGPM

So, If you are driven, IBS Pune will be a great option for management studies.

How was your IIM Bangalore interview experience for the batch 2021-23 (overseas candidate)?

AB
Anurag Bakshi Posted On : July 27th, 2021
Studied at IIM Ahmedabad (2019)

My brother is currently studying MBA at IIM Bangalore and he is also an overseas candidate. He cleared the interview this year itself, this answer is based on his fresh memories of his interview.

Here are some profile details of my brother that you might relate.

CBSE Board (10th and 12th) 90%
Graduation 65%
GMAT Score 730
Work Experience 18 months at Standard Chartered, London

The interview started around 5:30 PM and the interview panel consisted of 3 professors. After the exchange of pleasantries and ID verification the important questions are summarized below:

  • Asked the reason behind pursuing his graduation from London. They also wanted to clarify if there were other reasons to go to the UK.
  • Reasons behind the Ease of Doing business or if there are concrete implications of these rankings in terms of foreign investments.
  • If a higher ranking implies more investment or how do rankings affect the investor’s perspective.
  • Questions related to the major criterion that a foreign investor will consider before investing in India
  • Various investors turning towards China and its government policies.
  • The interviewers also emphasized that China is very corrupt as well but it doesn’t affect the business as much as it does in India. So, should India also use corruption to nurture business?

After these long questions, his interview was followed by questions on his job experience too. For example:

  • Is Standard Chartered an investment bank or a commercial bank?
  • Difference between investment banks and commercial banks?
  • What is a hostile takeover?
  • Are hostile takeovers common in India?
  • Why do you think Hostile takeovers are not common in India?

Now, as my brother is an overseas candidate, they also asked questions about his motive of coming back to India, the reason for not pursuing MBA abroad, cross-border M&A Deals, brief about SPACs and their presence in India, and so on.

Who are some of the best professors at Madras Institute of Technology (MIT)? And why?

NS
Navdeep Sindhu Posted On : April 29th, 2021
B.E., Instrumentation Engineering, Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India (2019)

My friend studied at MIT in 2013 and he says there are many reputable names from different departments like Prof. K Jeyaraman in the Aeronautical Engineering department, or Dr. PK Kanagasabapathy from the Instrumentation Engineering department, or Dr. A Rajadurai who was the former dean of MIT- he was an expert in Metallurgy and is one of the best professors owned by MIT.

Nevertheless, because my friend has his personal favorites, I'd write about them here -

  • Late Prof. VK Narayanan was dedicated to his profession and his students. His room was next to the internet room on the admin floor. My friend used to converse with him on any topic necessary.
  • It was because of him that he discovered KB Chandrasekar, the same KBC of the AU KBC research centre where my friend is an employee now. He forsook TCS to join there.

There have been innumerable instances where my friend was guided and helped by prof KVN.

  • One such incident is of the day when someone from the All India Radio came to him to introduce a new program to him on Information Technology.
  • He had approached him to ask him for lectures on computers to be relayed on AIR, and Prof Mathiazhagan had already done the first episode; but Prof KVN calmly made him understand that he should give such opportunities to young students.
  • He pointed at my friend and highlighted his erudition on knowledge to do with the internet, which landed him with 20+ episodes.
  • Not only this, he once helped a student to apply to foreign universities and she landed in a good US university, one more student with his help in association with my friend got a job with Blackberry and now lives in San Francisco.
  • Once my friend wanted to build a website for MIT and guess who provided all the support - Prof. KVN did. He learned HTML, found a domain name, and created official MIT emails for all the staff members.

He had been a professor, friend, and guide to my friend.

Why do colleges like Lovely Professional University, Sharda University, and Amity University advertise on TV? Do these universities have any standing or credibility?

AM
Arya Mukhopadhyay Posted On : May 4th, 2024
Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar

Even though colleges like LPU, Sharda and Amity spend a lot of money advertising themselves, these private institutions provide plenty of opportunities to their students. It is ultimately the students’ responsibility to make use of these opportunities. Deserving candidates are offered scholarships by these educational institutions.

Private Universities are the face of the modern Indian Education System after the IITs and NITs. The high end infrastructure and research facilities at top private engineering colleges has resulted in projecting India as a center of excellence in higher education. Moreover, the faculty and teaching standards at these institutions are of good quality.

Thus, Lovely Professional University, Sharda University, Amity University, etc. have a good reputation and credibility.
