GATE exam is a tough nut to crack. Around 8 lakh candidates apply every year for the exam to secure a seat in top IITs for a master’s degree or getting into PSUs.
If you are targeting the exam, it will be early to join coaching classes. As you are currently in your first year, it will be better to start focusing, reading, and learning about the core subjects in graduation. It will give you conceptual clarity. Also, the preparation will help you in placements too.
You can also refer to the following reference books during preparation:
| Topics | Author/Books |
| Control Systems | B.S Manke or M.Gopal |
| Digital Electronics | Morris Mano |
| Signal System | Sanjay Sharma (Basic Concepts) |
| Network Theory | William H Hayt |
| Electromagnetic Theory | Matthew Sadiku |
| Communication | Singh and Spare |
You can read these books as per the topics in each semester. Make notes thoroughly and solve previous years’ papers. Join test series at various coachings and try to solve as many problems as you can from different sources.
There is no better hack to crack the GATE exam for now. Overall, you will have to plan your day well in advance and follow the routine strictly because the time after college is a bare minimum.
While discussing NIT Kurukshetra and IIIT Lucknow I would suggest you go for NIT Kurukshetra. IIIT Lucknow is newly established and requires more experience.
With a rank of 17115 in JEE Main, I would like to suggest you go for NIT Kurukshetra. It has a better NIRF ranking than that of IIIT Lucknow.
As your interest leans towards CSE/IT, you can easily explore your coding knowledge or software skills beyond your opted branch. There is a good coding culture in NITs, you can learn coding from any branch depending on your interest and dedication.
You can approach any software company without any restriction of the branch at the time of placements. Moreover, NITs assist you with a remission policy which you won’t get in IIITs based on your family income.
