Why don't people prefer NIT Agartala and Silchar?

SG
Sugandhi Garg Posted On : September 18th, 2023
Studied Computer Science at National Institute of Technology, Agartala

Before joining NIT Agartala, even I had many misconceptions about this institution. These were mostly regarding the connectivity, environment, culture, diet, infrastructure, faculty and placements.

Now that I have experienced life at NITA, I am in a position to break these misconceptions about NITA and NITS-

  • Lack of connectivity- Maharaja Bir Bikram airport is just 26 km away from NIT Agartala, and Jirania railway station is just 3 kilometers away. NIT Silchar is just 35 km away from Silchar Airport, and the railway station is 10 km away from the campus. These towns have an absence of traffic jams and efficient transport services.
  • Terrorism problem- This is a complete myth. Both Agartala and Silchar are really peaceful places.
  • Culture and People- No, the people aren’t ‘uncivilized’. Tripura has one of the highest literacy rates in India. Silchar is an eminent trading center and knowledge hub in the Northeast. Both have medical colleges, research centers, and central universities.
  • Infrastructure- NIT Agartala has one of the most advanced infrastructures among Indian colleges. NITS has all the infrastructural facilities. Some facilities included in NITA and NITS are- Supercomputers, Scanning electron microscope, and ISRO innovation incubation centre (NITA). NITS has Asia’s largest digital library. Besides that, both have good workshops and labs, a modern sports complex, auditoriums, restaurants, wifi facility, a swimming pool and a gym.
  • Placements- Both offer decent placements. The average package goes to around 5-7 LPA for them.
  • Food- The food at mess is good. It caters to the dietary needs of people from all across India, and even foreign lands.
  • Faculty- The faculty is excellent at NITS. At NITA, some teachers aren’t good while others are very helpful and learned.

I hope that you will consider NIT Agartala and NIT Silchar for your higher studies. Both are very good colleges.

Which is better out of DTU, NSIT, VIT Vellore, BITS (any campus), NIT (top 3) and IIIT (Hyderabad and Delhi), placement-wise and education-wise?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 22nd, 2023
lives in New Delhi

On the basis of placements, I would rank the aforementioned institutes in the following order

Bits Pilani, Pilani Campus>|IT H>Bits Goa>Bits Hyderabad>Top 3 Nits>|IT Delhi/NSUT>DTU

BITS Pilani has a better placement scenario than IIIT Hyderabad although its average package is less than IIIT Hyderabad, this is because BITS has a number of branches and the average package is calculated after considering the packages of all branches whereas IIIT Hyderabad has only two branches ie CS and ECE. Both these branches are top branches so automatically its average package becomes higher than BITS Pilani. If you compare the placements of the CS branch alone, BITS Pilani will have the upper hand. However, if you want to pursue a career in research in CS, ten choosing IIIT Hyderabad will offer better opportunities. Basically, IIIT Hyderabad will make you a better coder whereas BITS Pilani will make you a better engineer.

It's important to note that the above ranking is based on placements alone and if you consider the research culture, then NITs will fare better than BITS mainly because they are government institutes and receive huge funds solely for the purpose of research.

AD
Ananya Dasgupta Posted On : July 26th, 2023

KIIT is a good choice for a B.Tech. I have listed below some reasons for my assertion-

  1. In KIIT, you will get good scores and it also offers a wide learning scope.
  2. KIIT has a beautiful and impressive infrastructure.
  3. It has its own aeronautical society, automobile society, robotics society, and more.
  4. Most of your teachers will be IITians, NITians, and Ph.D.s.Therefore, you can expect proper guidance.
  5. KIIT frequently organizes events, talks, conferences, and activities. The Fest is also really awesome.
  6. It is recognized both inside and outside India. Many students from outside India come to KIIT to pursue various degrees.
  7. The campus has a 24*7 wifi facility and you will be provided with a good laptop. Basic laptop issues will be taken care of for free unless there is hardware damage.
  8. Every department has its own library and a central library. Every classroom has a projector, a minimum of 1 camera, and a minimum of 2 ACs.
  9.  As a KIITian, within the campus, you can download any research paper from IEEE, Scopus, or Elsevier, without paying a single penny.
  10. The placements for B.Tech are quite promising. For 2023, around 90% + placements were achieved. The average CTC was recorded at approx. INR 6.50 LPA, and the highest CTC stood at INR 63 LPA. Capegemini gave offers to 346 students, followed by Bosch Global Software Technologies (P) Ltd. with 242 job offers.

How was your KJ Somaiya GD PI experience?

SK
Somya Khandelwal Posted On : March 31st, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2020)

My brother appeared for his interview last year. His GD PI was at the Vidyavihar campus in Mumbai in the first week of March. He was a little nervous when he walked into the auditorium, where so many people were waiting for their turn.

GD Round: There was a group of 10 people for a case-based discussion. He and the other candidates went into a room where they were provided with a case sheet by the faculty. In addition, they had three minutes to read and think about the case. After which each person would be given 1 minute to conclude.

His group got the case where the question was asked whether the funds allocated to ISRO should be used for other more important purposes. There have been some statistics on the current percentage of GDP allocated to ISRO for their projects and other information in paragraph or two. The discussion had a mix of all that.

One person was shouting that ISRO should not be given any money while some other people, including my brother, were saying that it would help to improve the image of India as a developing nation in terms of technology and eventually attract FDI. Another person used the statistics given in the case very wisely. The rest of the people were chipping in their points to stay in the discussion.

There are few things you must keep in mind:

  • You don't have to raise your voice to make a powerful point.
  • You need to study the case carefully and underscore important information.
  • Quality is always better than quantity. You can make 2-3 points that are better than talking constantly about irrelevant things.
  • Use statistics if they are provided. It adds a lot of significance and contributes to a strong point.
  • It is imperative to be competent in English. It communicates your points very easily to the judge.
  • The conclusions are very important, as in one minute, you can make your point without anyone disturbing you. It will also help you to recover if you didn't perform well in the discussion.

PI Round:

After the GD he really wanted to do well in the PI because the discussion had not gone that well for him.

He knew that the first statement in most college interviews was 'Tell us about yourself.' So, he was already prepared to answer that question by including things that would give them clues as to the questions most favorable to him.

According to his expectations, for most of the interview, the 2-member panel asked him questions about the start-up and all. Other questions were based on general knowledge, such as "Who is Nandan Nilekani?" "What is he famous for?" and so on.

As a mechanical engineer, he was also prepared for the question of his choice to opt for the Financial Services program. The interview went exactly as he thought. He was satisfied with it, and he was pleased that he had most likely recovered the points he had lost in the GD.Being honest and smart made him crack his interview.

Which is better NIT or DTU?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : July 5th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

I will say that DTU is better than NIT unless you are getting NIT Trichy. It’s the superior location of DTU in the capital and it’s an excellent infrastructure that makes it a better choice than most NITs. I am not saying NITs have poor infrastructure but they cannot be compared to DTU.

DTU has given birth to many legends, one such being Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma.

The average package lies in the range of INR 5–20 LPA. The faculty pool is also great here as most of the professors are PhD holders. DTU also has a great research culture. DTU also has excellent research facilities and a great peer pool. Here are some important points to consider

  • Engifest, the official cultural fest of DTU is the second-largest college fest in North India.
  • Great infrastructure in the form of a lush green campus and an open-air theater.
  • DTU average package is INR 15.16 LPA and the DTU highest package recorded this year was INR 64.23 LPA.
  • The peer pool quality is great as you will be interacting with the best minds in the country.

So, we can conclude that DTU is a better option and also offers a better college life experience than NIT.
