How do I prepare for the EKT AFCAT?

JS
Juhi Sharma Posted On : February 15th, 2021
B.Sc from SRM University

Firstly, you should know that EKT is conducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) for the technical groundwork and it is an online computer-based exam. The notification for this year has been released and the exam will be conducted between 20-22 February 2021 for both exams. You might want to note these down as well-

  • If you are applying for the EKT AFCAT Ground Duty (Technical Branch) post, you must attempt both technical & non-technical papers.
  • Know the Syllabus and Exam pattern to prepare thoroughly.
  • In the non-technical paper, G.K. will be a decisive factor, so focus on that and acquire the latest and important information from newspapers. The reasoning section will be easy to clear if you've practiced enough. You just need to chisel your logical and analytical skills.
  • You should understand concepts with total clarity, be clear on your Engineering subjects. Testbook has a good set of resources available. You can download and solve the complete mock test sets to be efficient and refer to books and videos through the website.
  • Make a schedule and follow it without distractions.
  • It is advisable to download the previous year’s question papers from the official website of EKT AFCAT and solve those at least 2-3 in a sitting, it will give you a good idea on the type of questions asked and the subtle intricacies with which to attempt them.

There are some books you can refer to for preparation: For the non-technical paper- Lucent's GK; RS Agarwal's Modern Approach to Verbal and Non-verbal Reasoning; and MK Pandey's Analytical Reasoning can be referred to.

For technical, you can read the Objective General Engineering by GK Publisher's; Let's Crack EKT by Shourya Publications; and AFCAT by Arihant.

I hope this all will help you with your preparations. Be updated and enjoy the process.

Which one is better for pure sciences and cosmology IISER, NISER or IISC?

HM
Hindol Mukharjee Posted On : June 16th, 2022
PhD from National Institute of Science Education and Research (2017)

For pure science, IISc is the obvious choice among these. It is the best in India, in terms of research interface, faculties, and alumni base.

If you are particularly interested in Physics, you should definitely choose IISc. It has an excellent Physics department. IISc Bangalore, Department of Physics has a Theoretical Cosmology group. The research interest of the group mostly involves early universe cosmology topics. For pure science courses, the preference order for these institutes is - IISc>>IISER>NISER

What is the salary of a scientist having a degree from IISc Bangalore?

PS
Prakhar Sahu Posted On : August 17th, 2020
M.Tech Microelectronics, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (2019)

The salaries received by the scientists having a degree from IISc Bangalore depend upon their field of specialization. Computer science and application (CSA) students get higher salaries as compared to other fields. Most students get salaries above 20 lakhs per annum. These students have expertise in subjects like Machine learning, Data mining, computer vision, and allied fields. However, students having a pure science background have an average package of 6-9 LPA. Another factor that influences the salary is the country where the recruiting company is located or type of the research labs you are getting recruited.

The placement cell is proactive which ensures lucrative packages to most students. There is an OCCAP portal where students need to register to get all updates regarding the placement activities. During 2019 placement, 25% of the students got packages ranging between 20 LPA to 30 LPA which was followed by 24% of students with packages ranging between 15 LPA to 20 LPA. The highest package at IISc in 2019 was 40 LPA and the average was around 10 LPA.

Is it all right to choose IIM, I or K over XLRI just for the IIM brand?

AR
Aditi Roy Posted On : May 20th, 2023
lives in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India

I will never suggest you go for IIM Kozhikode over XLRI. Because of the establishment of new IIMs, the impact of its brand has deteriorated. IIM Indore and IIM Kozhikode aren’t at the same level. Apart from IIM ABC, the only good IIM is Lucknow. If your academic records are average then only you can consider XLRI, that too is a great choice. If you are financially weak, then FMS is the one for you.

However, the harsh reality is many companies still prefer IIM students over other B-schools. This partiality results in MBA aspirants flocking to IIMs. IIM's. If you look carefully, XLRI too is an excellent institute and is second only to IIM ABC and FMS. Additionally, those seeking specialization in HR, should not loot beyond XLRI.

So, don’t reject XLRI BM (Jamshedpur) except for IIM A, B, C, and L. One may prefer L over XL because of the IIM tag, else both are similar.

In my opinion, the preference order should be

IIM A=B=C>>L>XLRI>FMS>>IIM I>IIM K

It is important to understand that the offers that XLRI HRM pass outs receive can vary significantly, as they come from a diverse range of industries. While it is true that the average median salary for XLRI HRM pass-outs is Rs. 9.5 lacs and the highest salary offered is Rs. 12 lacs, it is important to keep in mind that these figures are just estimates, and actual salaries may vary depending on a number of factors such as the specific industry, the company, the individual's skills and experience, and the location of the job.

For freshers, it is common for the starting salary to be in the range of Rs 3-4 LPA.

However, it is worth noting that this is just a rough estimate, and actual salaries may differ based on the factors mentioned above. Ultimately, the salary that an XLRI HRM pass-out receives will depend on a variety of factors, and it is important to keep this in mind when considering job offers.

SK
Suresh Kumar Posted On : December 1st, 2022
BE in Computer Science and Engineering, Anna University, Tamil Nadu, India (Graduated 2016)

The entire procedure of changing colleges is online. Follow the following steps:

  • Confirm vacancy and decision first with the college you are getting transferred to.

  • Next visit your current college’s administration department

  • Fill in your details for transfer on a website that they only have the login permission given individually to all affiliated colleges. You will also have to fill in the name of the college you are getting transferred to.

  • A PDF will be generated that needs to be sealed and signed by the dean/principal of your current college.

  • Collect the PDF from them and give it to the college you wish to transfer. They will enter details online and generate a PDF that has to be signed by that college principal/dean.

  • Now collect that PDF and mail it to the DOTE office in chennai.

The required documents for this procedure will just be your 12th class marksheet and Hall ticket of the previous semester.

Which is best for computer science, NIT Warangal, NIT Suratkhal, NIT Trichy, IIITDelhi, or DTU Delhi?

KS
Kalyan Shastri Posted On : August 16th, 2023
Lives in Warangal

It’s highly illogical to compare DTU or even IIIT Delhi with the top 3 NITs that enjoy the status of Institutes of National Importance. The NITs are second only to the IITs and fall in the same league as old IITs and BITS Pilani. They are way ahead of these Delhi colleges in terms of exposure, placements, and coding culture.

Despite a huge batch size, DTU has limited offers with good packages. While NIT Warangal has a small batch yet a huge number of students getting above 20 LPA.

NIT Surathkal has an excellent record of GSOC Selections while DTU is not even among the top 12 engineering colleges in terms of GSOC selections. Additionally, NIT Surathkal is the first campus that ATTLASIAN visited for placement.

Overall, the top 3 NITs are way superior to DTU and IIIT Delhi in terms of peer groups, academics, research, return on Investment, NIRF Ranking, campus life, and brand value.

Personally, I will recommend you to follow the following preference order

NIT Trichy CSE>NIT Surathkal CSE>NIT Warangal CSE>NIT Surathkal Information Technology (IT)>DTU CSE>IIIT Delhi CSE

Which is better - KIIT or Manipal University?

NJ
Nitish Jain Posted On : May 16th, 2022
studied Information Technology at Manipal University (2021)

Manipal University will be the better option. It offers good academics. For branches like CSE, IT, ECE, EEE, Mech, etc. MIT can be compared to some NITs. Admission to the institute is based on merit. So, the student crowd is decent. It has a decent placement record. The recent highlights of Manipal University Jaipur placements show an average CTC of INR 5.43 LPA.

Overall, placements, academics, alumni base, and campus life makes MIT one of the best private universities in the country.
