How are Thapar hostels for 1st year students?

RG
Rudra Ghose Posted On : August 24th, 2021
B.Tech from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

The hostel for the 1st year students is the most loved hostel in Thapar University because of numerous reasons.

  • The hostel is huge and every room in the building is spacious.
  • It has grounds huge enough to play cricket, football, or even kho-kho.
  • The mess workers are better than every other hostel and they provide good food, although not as good as the J hostel.
  • It has stable and high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity.

Since this will be the first hostel in your college life you will always have a special place for it in your heart. The facilities provided by the hostel are good.

Do you regret joining BSc Research at IISc Bangalore over B Tech at IITs?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : July 14th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

As a class 12th student, I wanted to become either an engineer or a doctor, simply out of societal pressure.

As I started understanding myself I realized that I did not want to become a doctor. Therefore, I started preparing for the IITs. I liked studying, so I was sure that I did not want a job after I was done with my UG degree. I wished to go into research.

I was naive at the time and thought IITians do not go for research work. I finally went for IISc to join BSc Research.

I do not regret joining BSc Research at IISc Bangalore. Had I done my B.Tech from an IIT, I would have switched to Neuroscience or Biophysics anyway. At IISc Bangalore, I realized my true calling.

Its curriculum made my switch to this interdisciplinary field a lot easier. The course fee for BSc Research at IISc Bangalore is affordable as well.

Therefore, I have no regret in choosing BSc Research at IISc Bangalore over B.Tech at IITs.

AD
Aditya Dhanraj Posted On : April 20th, 2021
BML Munjal University (2019)

My brother pursued his MBA from BML Munjal and as an average student like most of us, he had quite an exhilarating experience. His journey from transformation to securing a good placement makes me quite eligible to answer this question better on his behalf.

  • Infrastructure: You will not be disappointed at all because being one of the top private colleges in Delhi, NCR it has well-equipped classrooms and labs, a lush green campus, state-of-the-art hostels. Everything is perfect with a good learning environment.
  • Curriculum and faculty: These are some of the highlights of this institute. The faculty doesn’t only focus on imparting theoretical knowledge but also emphasizes the practical field. You will be subjected to training sessions, industry engagements through visits and events, lab exercises, internships, etc. with an aim to impart hands-on experience. Yes, the university keeps ups with their claim of spending at least 45% of their course duration on practicals.
  • Corporate Reputation: BML Munjal University started in 2014, is a HERO group venture which traces back to its origin in the early 1950s. Today, HERO Motocorp is the largest producer of two-wheelers in the world. Needless to say, they have a history and reputation in the corporate world giving them an edge over many institutes.
  • Global tie-ups: The university is associated with many reputed business schools around the globe such as Imperial College of London, Carleton University, Singapore Management University, and more.
  • Hostels: The rooms are well equipped with all necessary facilities and are kept under strict watch with 24*7 CCTV surveillance.

Has anyone chosen IIIT Hyderabad over IIT?

DS
Divya Saraf Posted On : July 31st, 2023
Lives in Hyderabad

Yes, one of my cousins decided to go for IIIT Hyderabad although he had the option of an IIT. The reason he made this decision was because he was certain of a career in CSE and wasn’t getting CSE in the top IITs. He was well aware that the IIIT Hyderabad CSE course is one of the best and toughest in India.

Today his father is proud of his bold decision. He claims the college ration the students in stress management through strict attendance even in games or yoga. The students are always busy with some or the other assignment.

However, the infrastructural facilities are great and the accommodation is quite comfortable. There are laundry services, good eateries, sports facilities, and a very friendly faculty pool.

The best part is the crowd quality as IIIT Hyderabad has no reservation policy. Initially, the compulsory attendance rule may seem a bit rigid but you will realize it does make your life disciplined.

All software giants are aware of the quality of students here and flock in groups to recruit the best minds. The institute has a record of 100% CS placements as it has the best CS course in the entire country with enough focus on research.

So, don’t hesitate from giving preference to IIITs instead of IITs just for the tag.

What would be the best option between VJTI (Bombay) CS & IIITM Gwalior IT + an MBA/MTech?

Supriya Sarkar Posted On : September 15th, 2020

VJTI Bombay is one of the oldest institutes in Mumbai. It offers a number of courses and has a legacy of highly placed and reputed alumni. Their course structure has undergone many transformations in recent years and they have also adopted the latest technology for IT and CS courses.

  • The B.Tech course at VJTI can be considered a well-reputed course as they receive hundreds of applications every year.
  • They are an autonomous college and allow students to take up interdisciplinary courses, irrespective of their graduation specialization.
  • VJTI allows students to take up more research and experience-based projects to add to their portfolio value and the overall student experience is motivating and challenging for students to achieve new heights in their careers.

The integrated course at IIITM Gwalior has two formats: B.Tech + MBA and B.Tech + M.Tech.

  • Students can choose their specialization of whether to do an MBA or M.Tech in their 3rd year.
  • Their course structure at IIITM Gwalior is famous among engineering colleges and their placement rates are very high.
  • IIITM has one of the best research faculties and integrated program students are mostly taken up by P.hD level professors.
  • Pursuing an integrated degree allows students to save one entire year of Master’s education which they can then use to increase their productivity in the job market or prepare for further competitive exams.
  • One potential drawback could be that an integrated program does not grant you a specific specialization. Students are only awarded an M.Tech degree. However, this factor does not affect placements and dual degree alumni get the same placement offers as mainstream master’s degree students do.
  • The student-faculty ratio in the dual degree program is also high which allows students to get personalized attention by the best research faculty on the campus.

Analyzing comparatively, VJTI has a century-old legacy to offer with hundreds of students either going for placements or mostly, further education. IIITM Gwalior is not so famous but does provide placement assurance and modern technological facilities. It completely depends on the student on what kind of career are they looking for and what kind of degree do they want to pursue.

Should I join IIT Gandhinagar CS or NIT Trichy CS??

AA
Aarti Ahuja Posted On : July 24th, 2023
Lives in Ahmedabad

IIT Gandhinagar CSE is certainly a better option than NIT Trichy CSE. Consider the following points in favor of my stance

  • IIT Gandhinagar, despite being a new IIT, has made its mark in the IIT family. It stands right after IIT Hyderabad, IIT BHU, and IIT Indore.
  • IITs being institutes of national importance receive more funding from the Central Government than NITs. This directly means better infrastructure, faculty, and research facilities.
  • The city Gandhinagar is well developed than Trichy thus it attracts more recruiters and provides better opportunities.
  • You will get the most coveted IIT tag that even has high global recognition.

IIT Gandhinagar has excellent placement opportunities for the CSE branch the statistics are mentioned below:

Placement Percentage

100%

Offers

32

Highest CTC

INR 62 LPA

Average CTC

INR 23.88 LPA

IIT status enjoyed by IIT Gandhinagar makes it a more preferable option and it is expected to become even better in the upcoming years.
